Interesting thought. You're never as big of a name than when you're moving clubs. Wonder if it's alluring for players to get a chance to be in the spotlight, build their brand then get a tonne of hype levelled at their feet.

AFL and the media have leaned in hard to the trade/draft period as a way to monetise the off-season. Going off on a tangent now but it's no wonder every commentator wants in-season trading and quicker free agency elligibility. They've found a goldmine with s**t like trade radio.

Yeah definitely, and couple that with the thirst for news from the afl fan base.

Like any community, there's all sorts of personalities in the playing group. No doubt there are some sociopath types that want it all about themselves.

For every joel selwood there's bound to be more Jesse hogan/tom lynch types.

I reckon it's a little of wanting to be closer to home (mum can do the washing), but he strikes me as a simple bloke who probably just wants to hang out with his mates back in WA and smoke bongs.

Now that he's almost confirmed gone I'm happy to sink the boots into him though.

Talented young talls taking huge contracts has a way of backfiring though. Lever worked out, but he had to delete Twitter to tune out the pressure heaped on him. I hope we don't have a Tex-Lever 2017 Crows type situation play out that fractures the playing group.

I honestly did not see Dogga as a Mummy's boy! Freo must be offering big bucks! Massive risk. They'll try low balling us at the trade table for sure. Do we target their players and what players do we put on the wantlist? I'm assuming their 1st round pick (around 15) will be on the table. So that leaves that plus a player and steak knives.

I think we go hard for Darcy, Serong or Young. In no way should we accept Lobb as anything other than steak knives if he's available. We have to go hard for a player that is easily best 22 for them and us.

I don't know that the NRL is some beacon of loyalty and honour. Heaps of players jump clubs and are on their 3rd or 4th team. Less 'go-home' factor as basically 80% of teams are based in two cities but plenty of blokes chase coin and move. It is more normalised, so less of this dragged out will-he-won't-he sign bullshit we have with Jacko or high profile trades/FAs.
It would be nice if we did get to that stage where blokes own that they're moving and just get on with the job while they're still contracted. Frustrating losing Jacko but should be well rewarded

By all reports in Perth you guys are keen on picks. Young signed a long term deal tying him to 2027 just a few weeks ago so he's off the table. There's also zero chance we're giving up either darcy or serong. Meek is your best bet + some first round picks.

All those Freo players you named are contracted for a significant length of time. We will be chasing picks not players so we can trade them elsewhere.

That fractured it too. Rumours were that the vibes were not great at half time in the Crows rooms with Tex and Lever, game was still on the line at that point. Crows imploded for heaps of reasons and I don't think we will do the same, but not having players committed to the cause come finals ain't great, especially with a prodigious young tall that almost demands a game on talent alone.

there's no-one on Freo's list that I want other than Darcy and maybe some lively types like Frederick and Switkowski or even Schultz. Serong is overrated and has been disappointing the last 6 weeks.
