I get the logic, but realistically, Ratugolea has kicked 38 career goals in 59 games as a KPF, he's s**t. Bowes wants to be a tall inside mid – we have more than enough of those, and pick 7 isn't going to help us win next year's flag, or the one after that most likely.
Grundy makes us a better team than what Luke Jackson does, so you've got to look at it as an improvement still.
I get the logic, but realistically, Ratugolea has kicked 38 career goals in 59 games as a KPF, he's s**t. For context, Weideman has played the same amount of games and kicked 62 goals. I didn't mean we should be going after Bowes. Just that GC incompetence giving Gellong a player they can use and pick 7 for the trouble is annoying. We showed interest apparently, but it's his choice in the end and obviously he feels he'll get a game at Geelong. Selwood's gone, the midfield's aging and he should be able to step in. He's played as a defender at GC, but was drafted as a midfielder. Gonna be hard for us to recruit that sort of player as long as Oliver, Trac, Viney and the rest of our similar aged midfield brigade are around fighting for spots.
There's no big forwards moving around other than McStay. We're losing a quality ruckman and gaining one.
To be fair, our playstyle this year would be a hard sell to gun forwards if we were looking to poach contracted players, but clubs also lock them down with decent contracts for a reason.
I'd take a gun lockdown defender as well, but no chance someone like Maynard or Starcevic are moving. I think we're doing alright with what's on offer.
Yeah look like the most likely outcomes except for Tomlinson. Think he is almost certain to stay. I can see us getting the trades done as we generally like to just get it done rather than stuff around. Being able to trade picks until draft night means we might not do those during trade period essentially.Dragging trade week out over 10 days really amplifies the posturing. If you ignore all that, my best guesses for the rest of our trade period is:
- We’ll get Grundy for either pick 27 or thereabouts (potentially a minor pick swap to move it up to the 25 mark)
- We’ll get the top 10 pick we want for Jackson from Freo eventually. Don’t think there’s any prospect he goes to West Coast.
- We’ll relent and trade Bedford for close to what’s already been offered once we’ve locked in that the pick we’ll get is adequate to facilitate the other two deals.
- We may well trade a future pick to move up higher in this years draft.
- Tomlinson will be traded for not much.
For a bonus non-MFC guess, I maintain that Freo will be trading Lobb once Jackson deal is locked in.
Hopefully I get at least 2/5 close to the mark.

Yeah, well if his relationship with Collingwood is damaged then we shouldn't be budging an inch.Other thing with Grundy is he seems really pissed with Collingwood.
Sounds like Pies booted him after a few lean years on a huge contract (it happens) - but we're in a good position picking up a guy like that with something to prove.
At his best he was a really, really hard worker on the track. Having Grundy ruck against Gawn at training will surely bring out the best in both of them. I reckon Grundy will be doing everything right this off-season to have a huge 2023.
There was a second team , Geelong West . Couldn’t survive in the old VFA .Geelong are incredteam in the country ibly blessed when it comes to the geographical advantages they have. Cheaper cost of living, right next to the surf coast and still within driving distance to Melbourne to take on all the opportunities that come with being at the football capital of the country. Only club with a genuine home ground they get to train on every day.
Thinking about it, it's kind of remarkable there was never a second footy side in Geelong. 11 teams that bordered each other were able to coexist in Melbourne for nearly a century while Geelong had an entire, albeit small city to themselves. You'd think a second team would have thrived in Geelong had it entered into the VFL in the early days. You would have an amazing rivalry like Man U and Man City in the EPL.
Yeah I think Collingwood are waiting to see what we get for Jackson before it going through. Pies might be eying a pick in next years draft as it's meant to be stronger. Also might be sussing out what we get for Bedford as they may want 27 + the bedford pick.Collingwood can’t afford Grundy’s 5m now that McStay is on board and there’s no reason to believe either club is holding the other to ransom. We’re probably just waiting for more clarity on Jackson.
If Freo are offering R1, F1 and North’s F2 then I’d bite their hand off without worrying about West Coast’s pick 2
Looked them up. They only had a brief stint in the VFA from the 60s to the 80s? Now the Geelong West Giants in the Geelong Football League. There was a second team , Geelong West . Couldn’t survive in the old VFA .

I think Freo's F1 will be a good pick to have with Mundy and 4-5 best 22 players leaving coupled with a pretty young core and a harder draw
Yeah agree, just hoping we don't swap it out to get back up the order this year, as I think Freo will slide.Every version of a deal I've seen offered includes Freo's F1, that seems to be locked in.
The key for us is not accepting their shitty number 13 pick this year. When you're trading a premium player you want a premium draft pick as part of the deal and that means top 8.
I like all your thoughts on this. The trouble is, Bowes wants a chance to play more AFL footy. He wouldn't get a game in our side. Geelong is more likely with retirements, and there's also the lure of them being Premiers. He would never agreed to come to the Dees.Exactly, Bowes is pretty irrelevant in the deal. The prize is pick 7 to allow you to move into the top 3. We come out like bandits, replace Jackson with another top 3 elite talent with a first and second left over to make other deals with in the future if we don't have the cap space this year.

This is what I can't work out why everyone saying it's an amazing deal. Bowes ain't that good if he can't get a game for Gold Coast. They were an average side. And talk of pick seven as though it's a certain superstar mustn't realize how hit and miss the draft can be.Yeah pick 7 would be nice, but if we'd done this deal we'd be happy for 5 minutes and then furious for 24 months we were paying Bowes $800,000 a year to play for Casey.
