Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

We already have the start of a great midfield, this draft has more key position potential than I have ever seen before. I'm surprised to see so many arguing to take a small forward and be done with it, or to trade up to pick 1 rather than trying to generate multiple picks in the top 15. I think the next all-Australian CHF and CHB are in this top 15.
The 2024 AA CHF and CHB are in the top 15?

Wow, tough Rising Star voting next year

Of all things discussed this seems to be the draft to get some young developing KP players. Reviewing several draft boards that 20-30 range has some likely types after watching their highlights (so obviously I’m not a track watcher). Murphy, a. Reid, Morris, the cult figure zakolsteltsky and wil Dawson. If we do t use our f1 for a bigger play hope we use our f2 to trade in and grab one, warming to the ZZ!

Big fan of Logan Morris. I think question marks will be around his mobility, but he certainly has AFL qualities. Could be the steal of the draft, Hawks will be all over him.

I’m a fan as well but which AFL qualities are you referring to? Or more so which AFL qualities he does not have which concerns me, ie natural athleticism, speed and endurance. Apparently he has worked hard on his fitness but still doesn’t look that athletic for mine. The combine will tell us a story.

I still don’t understand what is wrong w a player who has elite qualities inside 50 staying inside 50. Keeping one player deep as a constant threat would stretch the oppostiins’s defensive bubble and create more space to run into.

The game isnt played like that. His opponent would just run off him.

Fair point that, his opponent would then become a loose offensive defender, damaging by foot. That’s the reason these days opposition coaches don’t allow a loose defender behind the ball.

Reads the ball well and has some very strong hands. Long levers. Just looks an AFL player. Agree, combine will tell us a lot. He has an invite to the national and not state, so suggests more than 6 clubs have expressed an interest.

Got to follow the defender on a rebound, but when it resets, push back into the F50.
Position just inside the 50m no further.
Any rebound will turn into a goal.

No way a team will persist in allowing a forward alone inside 50 after the first goal.

If it were this simple Cyril would have lived there for a period of time before he retired.

You can hold a forward structure deeper, but it winds up being a liability if you can’t clear your defensive 50, or if the game is in a state that allows the opposition to drop a second defender back.

How many times have you seen Hawthorn kick to an outnumber in our fwd 50 over the years, then watched the ball blitz down the other end faster than it arrived.

It’s not a bad idea, but it gets shut down pretty quickly unless you’re well on top all over the park.

Back onto the draft, Harley Reid would be a coup. We need to throw the kitchen sink. He’s a clear standout. Not common to have the option to land a player like him.

Draft night will pose a challenging decision due to the exceptional talent at the top. While Reid stands out, it's essential to consider how well these players align with Sam Mitchell's team strategy, as they could make an immediate impact and complement our squad effectively. My preference would be as follows:

1. Reid
2. Duursma
3. McKercher
4. Watson

Harley Reid: I’d like to think that at contests around the stoppages, I’m pretty explosive and really physical. I love the physical attributes footy brings. Also when the game is there to be one, I’d like to think that I have another gear and stand up when the games are there to be won. And probably the teamwork mentality to be team-first. Yeah, just probably that explosive, dynamic, mid-forward type of player like a Dusty or a Danger.

Get him in!
