These numbers are not looking good.

No Vigos figures are pretty good and for a young ruck there's plenty of positives there.

Did have a serious concussion along with a nose operation at the start of the year that put him behind the eight ball early.

Finished the year really well and I'd have him over Green who's rated 1st round by some.

Certainly worth a shot and Port can find a spot for him.

A NUMBER of draft hopefuls pushed their stocks over the weekend with excellent testing results in front of club recruiters at the Draft Combine. Gold Coast Academy talent Will Graham, who could be the fourth Suns Academy prospect to land at the club this draft, was a standout across three tests, finishing second in the 20-metre sprint (2.915 seconds), equal second in the standing vertical jump (78cm) and equal third in the running vertical jump (95cm).
Small forward Aiden O'Driscoll blitzed the 20-metre sprint, claiming the top result with a run of 2.87 seconds ahead of Graham and Caleb Windsor (2.916 seconds). Lance Collard also ran a 2.92-second 20-metre sprint before winning the agility test.
Collard, who is tied to West Coast's Next Generation Academy, ran 8.157 seconds in the agility ahead of fellow WA product Koltyn Tholstrup (8.194 seconds) and Angus Hastie (8.204 seconds).
Zane Zakostelsky claimed top honours in the standing vertical jump (80cm) ahead of Graham, Phoenix Gothard and Mitch Edwards (78cm), while Darcy Wilson was the standout in the running vertical jump.
The Murray Bushrangers midfielder/forward, who finished second overall in the 2km time trial, jumped 98cm to finish ahead of top-five talent Zane Duursma (97cm), Graham and Kane McAuliffe (both 95cm).
Wilson was beaten in the 2km time trial by Sandringham Dragons wingman Tarkyn O'Leary, who stormed home with a run of 5:48 minutes before Wilson came through in 5:52. Ruckman Ethan Read, who could attract a top-10 bid for the Suns, was in third place with a run of 5:56 minutes. – Callum Twomey

I watched the first quarter of sa v wa!

Sa suck. They are so unwatchable. I actually really liked montgomerie. He was playing half back, but he just looked like an afl player. Nice size, nice movement , classy kick. Im suddenly very confident he's got an afl future.

Wa.

Mitch Edwards looked like a gun ruck. He just moved fast, positioned well and tapped well.

Collard and Sanchez both looked great as fast lively impact forward, I read collard needs to be bid before 40 to avoid being tied to west coast.

Tholstrup was a big body had a couple of big kicks and showed some attitude. I suppose the question is where does he play at afl. General forward?

Odriscoll showed a few nice moves on the wing. It sounds like he is a late picking as above won the sprint.

Id be happy to draft all those wa kids.

Combine is a bit of a waste for us, only factor of interest might be speed.

We need smart footballers that might have some potential. If they have that speed that could be a bonus. However really we just need to draft a few small players that might make be Smokies, like a Dan Houston.

Definitely shouldn't be wasting draft picks on talls. If all our trades come off, our list will be way too stacked with talls. No more required this year that's for sure.

We currently have one ruck under contract.
No tall defenders that have proven themselves outside of Aliir.
Charlie is finished.
Lord only has a 1 year deal.
We don't want Marshall getting another concussion.
Mitch Georgiades recovering from an ACL.

Reid, Zane Zakostelsky and Vigo (all 2-3 years off playing)would be a pretty good draft haul[emoji848]

The Western Bulldogs are poised to finalise a deal to snare the Gold Coast’s sought-after pick four in this year’s national draft.
Under the deal which is likely to be completed today, the Dogs would give up picks 10 and 17 in this year’s draft and their future first round pick to the Suns. In exchange Gold Coast would trade pick four plus two third-round selections this year and a third round next year.

Yeah, nah.

Ruck:
You only need 3, and when you have them all in their prime window or in the very young space, there's definitely no need for another yet. We can expect at a minimum to have Sweet and Visentini as our rucks in 2024. Maybe Soldo will also end up here. If that happens, that is it. No more are needed. That'd be 3 ready to go rucks and 2 playing SANFL weekly. If we don't get Soldo it is likely Hayes or Lycett will get another year. There's a reason why neither have been 'delisted' yet.

As such, there's no value in looking at rucks. In that space right now we are looking comfortably covered. If Visentini fails to grow we're just back at the trade table in a couple years.

Key Back:
We have a plethora of options.
Aliir, McKenzie, Burton, BZT, Ratagolea, Clurey, Pasini, Marshall & McCallum. In theory, if Aliir, BZT & Rata are first team, that leaves McKenzie, Clurey, Pasini as backup options, plus Burton who plays his best footy as a tall. That's solid depth already, with 2 project players also there. You don't go getting more project players, it is bad list management to do so. If we are that unhappy with the project players then McCallum would need to be delisted. Next year is the year with the loss of McKenzie that we should be looking at another project player, Marshall would be ready by then. Until then, if Clurey doesn't find a new home, which he probably wont on his contract, then we have him for 2 more years and he's well and truly good enough to remain as a break glass backup.

Key Fwd:
Never have we ever been so stocked.
Dixon, Marshall, Finlayson, Georgiades, Lord..... That's a heck of a lot of options that all need to be playing now. Dixon wont play 2025, so rather than rest on it, absolutely we need to be thinking about the next group, but in Marshall, Georgiades and Finlayson, they're already there. Not to mention Lord. Then we already have a very talented project player in Scully sitting underneath all of them. Of all the KPP areas, maybe this is the one that has the most potential for another project player, so maybe if there's one sitting there at the end of the draft they could fill a project spot.

What is blindingly obvious from all this is that really with the expected trading, we are covered for tall options, there's really no need for anymore. We head into this draft with a desperate need to stock up on speedy players that could fill gaps on a wing or up forward, or just added midfield depth options. We certainly need that much more than the talls. So our draft strategy should be 100% simple. Draft the best kids with the most potential, some natural footballers, or some guys with some sort of X factor speed that should come off. There's definitely no need to target KPPs. In fact it'd be real poor list management if we drafted more than 1 max.

would kill for a quick small forward or natural skilled forward

collard cothard or Moir. im as keen on munkara as anyone tho there would be a reason Essendon cut him. its an absolute must we look at this position.

an inside mid should be high on our radar

also wing if we like anyone there.
Yep, this is the sort of draft haul you'd expect we'd be targeting.

Our current options in defence are killing us.
We can't delist those under contract.

My point really was we have a serious weakness in defence and a decent long term option being available in the draft would be hard to go past particularly as all of the quality mids are gone.

If we get pick that lands us Moir I am 100% on board with taking him.

Lance Collard in the agility test yesterday was a pretty big deal.

Previous winners.

Darcy Jones 7.70 2022
Stephen Hill 7.77 2008
Danyle Pearce 7.79 2004
Nathan van Berlo 7.80 2004
Elliot Yeo. 7.80 2011
Ahmed Saad 7.86 2011
David Armitage 7.88 2006
Kieran Lovell 7.90 2015
Billie Smedts 7.90 2010

There's some useful players there, it's one test that seems to translate to playing at a decent level.

You aint fixing our KP problems in one off season with pick 86 and 104. You're talking project players and we already have Marshall & McCallum. If we don't think they will ever make it then you delist them before you get more. Marshall to me looks good, McCallum I'd be happy to drop.

In reality with a loaded list of KPP's and developing KPP's, we have to back in the players we've got/will have (Aliir, BZT, Esava) to form a group that can be solid at AFL level, and then you need to surround them with a gameplan and the talent at ground level that allows them to flourish.

No point just filling the list with project players which makes our SANFL team weaker and the development environment worse. Creating more of the same issues we faced this year.

We need to make the SANFL team more competitive again, and that starts with some more small talent, and another year into the weak links like Scully, Marshall, McCallum, etc.

From there, a side with Aliir, Esava, Sweet, Dixon, Marshall as the spine is capable of winning a flag with this midfield stepping up and the with quality some of our flankers. Its up to the coaches to get them firing together and for our deficiencies in wing and small forward to be somehow improved.
