McKercher, Reid and Duursma. Simply have to find a way to nab one of these 3. Yeah there is some talent outside of these guys, but for me, these three compliment our list perfectly and standout as the three best players from what I've seen. If Norf get a PP then we're zero chance unless we sell the farm for Reid. McKercher looks a Jet.
I agree with you on McKercher, seems a special talent, but so is Duursma. Duursma would bring us something more we need, and could rotate with Petracca... who by the way, is almost 28Yrs .

We need, IMO, to start to bring in replacement kids, for our top talents.
Maxy, Tracca; and a marking tallish half-forward which we don't have. Fritta I classify as something like a small who can play tall.

Forget hReid. too expensive.

I think the AFL will create a situation where North will trade with the Eagles for hReid... as a something of a payback for losing Horne-Francis. The Eagles needing plenty of picks, to fast track WA talent onto thier list.

It feels like the Eagles are already pricing most clubs out of contention. for a trade... so watch this AFL space, Re compensation picks for North.

The ruck position isn't the most crucial to success
I disagree. Hit-outs aren't essential; but taking overhead marks between the D50 arc, and the Centreline, are crucial.

We all saw what happened to us when Maxy dropped his bundle, and stopped marking the footy. Now he has got his aggerression back, he has been fantastic, the past 3 weeks.

Agree on that, but that's what I think separates the great rucks from the rest. The great ones do the hitout stuff but also contribute around the ground, it's what makes Max such a gun. The average rucks just get a hitout and then their usefulness is done.

All this talk around the key back market this off-season, wonder if we'd look to get involved now that (hopefully) we see Petty as a FWD long term. I'd be open to look at Zerk-Thatcher from the Bombers, he's come on a bit the last couple of years but you'd think he'd head home to SA if he was to leave...might be a bit undersized as well.

At least halve the contest.

The key to us it to take marks between the arcs, to relieve the pressure on transition. Then look for an angle kick forward to spot-up some space.
We will miss petty.

Hawks are very keen on Duursma according to Cal Twomey.
I’d be very happy if they went with Duursma and left Sanders (and possibly Watson if we can get GCs pick 5).

I don’t think Duursma has done enough to push up to pick 4 or 5.

When they threw him in the midfield he wasn’t anywhere near the player he was as a medium/third forward.

Current 2023 Picks:

4, 17 & 23

Melbourne have:

4 = 2034 points
17 = 1025 points
23 = 815 points
36 = 502 points

GC pick 5 that they 100% will trade for points = 1878 points

To get GC interested the trade would need to be 17, 23 and 36 = 2342 points

GC might throw Melbourne a 2024 3rd rounder back as that's a bit of an overpay without something coming back.

GWS' loss has put them in a more tricky position to trade with GCS. They now have:

6 = 1751 points
11 = 1329 points
49 = 287 points

Maybe they trade pick 6 and 49 (2038) to move up one place, but that's unlikely. GCS would then still need to offload pick 6 in a subsequent trade.

Adelaide might be a chance. They have:

8 = 1551 points
20 = 912 points
24 = 785 points
48 = 302 points

GCS might go for 20, 24 and 48 (1999 points) for their pick 5 (1878). But if Melbourne wanted to offer their three picks it's substantially more attractive for GCS than what Adelaide could. Maybe Adelaide would do 8 and 24 for pick 5. It's a fair bit to give up for a three place shuffle up, and then again GCS would need to offload 8 in a subsequent trade.

Bulldogs the other possible. They have:

13 = 1212
16 = 1067
35 = 522

They could go just two picks to get to 2279 which is damn close to what Melbourne get to with three picks. Two picks is more attractive to GCS than three picks as it relates to how many open list spots they need (you need an open list spot to be able to use a pick to match) so that means they need to delist one fewer player if the Bulldogs do that offer. But two players in the 13 and 16 range might be more attractive than one at the 5 range for the Bulldogs.

But after the results of this upcoming round this will all move around again anyway.

We need to establish ourselves as a destination club for Gippsland kids... and their families.
I'm sure the go home factor will be very strong to get players from Dingley to Cranbourne.

If bulldogs do this will they have enough points left for Croft?

Good point. I completely forgot about competing NGA and Father-son picks.

Maybe the Bulldogs try the trade with GCS using their first two picks. That will definitely get them ahead of the Croft pick. I believe Croft is considered to be in that 15-25 range. I think Bulldogs would just have enough left for Croft after a trade with GCS for pick 5, but they would have another 2-3 list spots they’d need to fill with the very last picks in the national draft, rookie promotions, or other picks like preseason draft, SSP or mid year draft.

One of the guys in this podcast had Kynan Brown ranked in the top 20. 17th I think. Only ranking Vic and Tas players.

Kinda makes it a bit pointless then lol
