One of the journos - I think Twomey - said we're only planning to take two picks in the draft. I dislike this strategy, picking two kids a year isn't enough to keep the list fresh and young talent coming through.

But that aside, have to assume Plan A is to get to something like 3 and 15 and Plan B is go with 6 and 11.

Twomey also said there's only probably gonna be about 40-50 kids taken. No point just grabbing shit kids for the sake of it

I think he meant 2 picks in the national draft.

We'll be upgrading 2 rookies to the main list too and probably re-filling the rookie list with kids. I don't see a problem with it

Wouldn’t we have been better off keeping pick 27 and taking a kid then pissing it off and dropping all the way back to the rookie draft to fill that spot instead

Maybe. Depends, as we might have a couple of rookies from left field in mind where they rate them almost zero chance to be taken before our picks. It's very hard to tell until the trade/draft period is finished.

I'll back them as they have a good track record.

Don't follow the draft closely myself, but the talk for ages has been we only care about the top 20 or so and a lot of the media types are saying it's Harley Reid by a long way, then a bit of a drop off after the top 7, then an even bigger drop off after the top 20.

We don't need more B and C grade youngters, we've got enough IMO, we just some top end A grade types in that age bracket, so it makes sense.

If we only planned on taking 2 picks to the draft why not just trade the picks for future picks, that way next yr when we have all the dinosaurs retiring + a deeper draft we'd have a strong hand...Y'all are talking bout picking Wilson at 11, most mocks i see have him somewhere between 12-15, not to say thats who JT had in mind given hes obv far better at his job than any of us are at picking young talent but i dont rly see why we didnt just get a couple future 2nds for those picks and stay at 14. Of course thats no longer possible.

Petty gets overshadowed by May & Lever in the backline, but he's a legit gun and only 23. Wouldn't be obvious to folks that don't watch us regularly. Doesn't get any exposure til he kicks 6 in the forwardline.
I watched us regularly this year - Haven't looked at stats but felt like his form as a defender was pretty bad, certainly worse than 2021/22. Gave away some dumb holding/pushing frees as well which is indicative of a player down on confidence/form.

Got the exposure after going forward because he started impacting games much more than in defence.

Not if we think the guys at that number are shit?

I think there's a desire to add players who can impact short term hence why many believe we are looking to trade up for a Reid or Duursma type.

I reckon he'd be on a decent wicket so thought they might be open to handing him over reasonably cheaply if we took on his salary. He seems out of favour at the dogs.
He's basically played every game for the last 7 years lol

That doesn't make sense. You wouldn't change your strategy to pick early developers. If we're dropping down its because we want those players not cause they'll be ready a little earlier than others.

To be fair does Petty ever stay in the park for a full season.

I love the bloke and think his a jet but **** if we could get 2 first rounders for him and have another option - say short term bring in Lobb
you would have to consider it.

Considering his foot might be ****ed as well or leave for **** all as a free agent in 2025, sell at a high.

**** it even throw Tomlinson up forward if we need to.
