Yes, but a team”s ability to choose and how they choose to exercise the option … is diminished / increased by players being only available to specific clubs.

So pick 10 for one team can be worth a completely different amount to another team in terms of options.

In fact if you can get ahead of your own bids, pick 10 can give you more options.

It’s value varies. It’s value is not set. Not inherent.

If we have pick 20 and it gets pushed back to 30 where we select Ashton Moir, no one will ever say in the future that he was actually pick 20. That's the way I look at it.

Another way of thinking about it is would these Academy players have been as good if there was no Academy? That is, would they have been draftable players regardless and available to any team? Sydney and Brisbane supporters like to argue these players wouldn't have been in the open pool in the first place if not for the Academy. If they would have been in the open pool, then yes, we're selecting the 30th best player instead of the 20th.

There are lots of valid ways to look at it imo. I like to choose the way that allows me to be more pissed off at the eastern states

Has to be promoted to the senior list or delisted.

We would, of course, have the option of re-drafting him in the RD (as a Cat A rookie). However, that assumes that nobody signs him as a DFA, or selects him in the ND or RD before we grab him. Not a safe assumption, in my opinion.

The least likely player to be Greenwooded is Rory Sloane, he is the obvious player to delist and then rookie. Hamill probably next, Bond is only 1 year in, so I reckon a little more risk. Not much, but probably a touch more.

I'm not convinced that getting Burgess releases him, unless GWS overpay. And not sure who else is available. Maybe Lycett for a year as a break glass.

Also the risk of lifelong delisted FA status - more likely to bite us with Bond than Sloane

Confirms what most expect (he stays unless we bring in a viable alternative which now looks dependent on Petty) but the bolded part is a surprise.
