Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Thats exactly what its designed for.. to give straight to the suns for pick 4 and a free ticket to sanders..

not content with just giving them pick 3 as compo for that useless piece of sh*t McKay so they can use that to get Sanders... cause clearly north didnt want to have to use that pick for him… no, no, no!.. you have to give us that and even more please.. we cant go using our ridiculously generous compo pick for sanders. Thats not fair.

gill wouldve played clarko‘s skinflute whilst agreeing to it all..

they’ll take sanders, curtin and mckercher.

such an insipid and putrid league.

Surely they look to trade for Reid? So many picks available to them and he has the swagger of a lad that could come in and lead them out of the doldrums. North need a talisman as well as good players

I think the contracts are all technically with the AFL. So if the player and AFL agree it's all good

Plus the rules of engagement will be agreed by all 18 clubs - just as GC and GWS were

End of the day it’s about earning more revenue for the code and dominating the Aussie landscape

Those examples are the wrong way around. Although yeah I guess we never lost David Mackay, Andy Otten or Brent Reilly
Adelaide Crows were a newly created side that was representing an entire state - Kernahan was a state hero playing interstate that many thought would immediately come home. Never happened.

D jarman went to the hawks iirc the year before the crows came in and only came back later on
Yep and he came back.
Bruce Linder returned.

Big difference between Vic clubs losing players to us, same with recruiting players. The only players we are recruiting currently is returning SA players.

The first Tassie teams will receive extraordinary concessions and players will be allowed to leave. Risk one pick on a Tassie, ok. Risk multiple picks to grab that Tassie player is a massive gamble.

So let understand this?

the crows and north were in similar positions in 2020-21, one of these clubs although not done everything perfectly has progressed through its rebuild and can now challenge for finals, whereas the other club has made poor football department and program decisions

So can someone tell me two things

1. why offer assistance packages for clubs that keep making poor decisions?

this is just incentivising failure

2. why is the assistance package 1st round draft picks when all the evidence shows that the club has failed to develop talent ?

i would have thought the better assistance package would be to increase their soft cap so they can invest in their footy department to better develop talent?

This is just wrong in so many levels

Personally, I wouldn't risk any.

We've already got Jones on the list who's indicted he'd be tempted to go home.

You’re right it’s not exactly “must be traded” but they’re to be reviewed at the end of 24. Unless North are backing themselves for another season with no improvement, they’d be wise to trade them this year.
These first round picks for end of next year cant be traded as they have stated these can be taken away depending on how they go next year so how can they be used to get pick 4 this year ?

That's the point

The AFL is basically telling them to spend them this year, or run the risk losing them

So North bundle up some picks that include the gifted future picks for GC, who probably already have enough (or close to) points for the players they want to take this year

North are now suddenly interested in Chol, perhaps he could be a part of the deal? He may be handy considering their lack of talls

North get another top 5 pick this year, and GC get a cracking start to their draft hand next year

No he didnt. He was drafted by Hawthorn. Other players were drafted to like Andrew Jarman and Simo tregenza. All three stayed and played SANFL. Crows were able to draft any uncontracted South Australian. All three were out of contract and DJ was going to sign with crows up until the very last minute decided to re-sign with Hawthorn.
