Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Zac Fisher? Wants more midfield time. Would bring some speed in there that we need? Or just clog it up for the likes of Ranks/Peds or Rachele if he gets fit

Those flogs on trade radio were saying he's worth north's future 2nd. Would be a huge overpay.

Here's a few trade thoughts;

Bargain Bin / Left field ideas (queue criticism):
Crows should pursue Elijah Hollands at Gold Coast. He hasn't been able to bust into a Gold Coast midfield dominated by high end talent in Rowell, Anderson & Co. He was born in Adelaide, bit of childhood there. Get him cheap, we've got Burgess who is the best in the fitness business and maybe can get Elijah fit again, he's a 6'2" midfielder who was once the media favourite for #1 2020 draft pick until he did his ACL. Burgess has rehabilitated Milera... maybe he can do it again?

Let go of Doedee:
Offers of $600k/year for 5 years being circulated, which I hope the Crow's don't match. That's too rich considering the quality of our guys who stepped into Defence in the 2nd half of 2023 and really did themselves proud. Nick Murray, Smithers, Michalanney, Nankervis, Hinge, Keane, Butts, Borlase, (Dawson) - we're young, but we're in good standing. Let Doedee go with our blessing and wish him the best of luck in the future.

McAdam & Melbourne:
Trade out Shane & also a chunky draft pick - get in Harrison Petty / James Jordan
Best wishes to Shane, hope he finds success in Melbourne. He seemed like a humble and good bloke. In the trade exchange with Melbourne the Crows should offer up our draft picks to pry Harrison Petty or James Jordan out of Melbourne. When I go looking at the Top 30 or so Draft Prospects there are very few South Aussie lads in there. We're on a trajectory for flag hunting in 2025, so cough up a good 2023 pick to get a player straight in the team who is in our First 18 in 2024-25-26 every week.

Pretty sure James Jordan has committed to Sydney and is able to walk there.

Tom Sparrow on the other hand...

Nothing controversial there.

Jordon is a free agent so we could just get him - but sounds like he's identified Sydney.

Hollands is interesting. He was borderline campaigning for us to select him in 2020, but sounds like he's off to Carlton. I wouldn't choose their midfield if I was him, but fair enough.

yeah - sparrow certainly has some spark about him - just curious where he fits into the Crows lineup? Is he our small-half-forward and Rankine/Rachele get more minutes in the midfield? Where do you see Sparrow adding value in the starting 18?

In bad news no veteran list spot being created that the club could’ve put Sloane on but in better news Mid-Season rookie adjustments should see Parnell be able to be kept on the rookie list next season apparently.

I think he's straight into the midfield rotations.

Sparrow an inside big bodied midfielder.

Sparrow?.. play him where you ask?….

Midfield.

Out with laird, sloane, keays, murphy…

in

with rotations of Sparrow, Dawson, rankine, rachele, pedlar, crouch..

and also add in bursts of Jones, Nank, Hinge and even, on the rare occasion, Fog.

instantly better midfield.

would love to see hinge spend this summer doing some work in the midfield group. He could be the next half back type to move into the middle.

reckon he’d have it in him and could become a real force.

I think we’re ok, I wouldn’t trade anyone in unless they’re high end or at least in the first dozen picked.
While I think this needs priority I also think we have major holes now - and going into 2025 - where finding gold in 130-200 game range is also a need - which fits in with top 12 picked

Worrell as well.

Ok here's a name no one has mentioned.

Oscar Adams.

Have I seen him play? Nup
Is he any good? No idea. Probably not.

Pick 50ish in 2021 from Glenelg.
Drink driving conviction as an 18 yo
198cm, key def / pinch hit ruck.
good leap apparently.

Anyone seen him play? Worth a rookie spot over Borlase?

Sparrow is a centre square midfielder

He’s the best 4th one at melb when they’re full strength

Billy is not a great player, yet he played 15 games this year for Collingwood in the H&A rounds as a KPD, KPF and in the ruck. Mostly while a variety of Cameron, Cox and McStay were out injured.

No ones expects much of Billy. He played a role. He should've taken at least 1 of those marks and converted though.

And had either of Ash Johnson or McStay been available he wouldn't have got a game.

But he did. And he deserves his medal as much as anyone else out there.

There were plenty of others out there who I would've expected more from. Ah Chee, Berry and Hipwood in particular for Brisbane. Neale was pretty damn ordinary in the first half too. Could probably add Starcevich in there too.
Well done to the Maggies for recognising they had a weakness in tall depth. They filled it perfectly with a guy who showed his versatility and who ended up being critical to their season.

Billy is no star. But ended up playing his role for his side.

I wonder if AFC might learn something from this as we're also weak in talls just now.

And built like a brick outhouse, always has been right back to his Panthers U18'S days...also has the burst speed several of our mids lack.
Did Sparrow play much mid this year in Oliver's absence?

Getting a game in the fit and well Melbourne midfield is nigh impossible just now. Is Sparrow a "been played out of position" gem?
