Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Hughes had just come off 2 seasons where he missed a total of 1 game

Then played every game in 2021 til injury

Club thought he was locked B22, when you think about it, with the exclusion of last season he has been locked B22 since the start of 2019
There was one season since 2019 that he was nowhere near the B22.
What was different about that season I wonder?? 🤔

Ah yes, we were actually a serious team in the league not an also ran.

Last year? He played in 4/6 wins and had some serious shoulder issue from memory

Ok I’ve crunched the number here.
In the last 10 seasons since 2013,
18 x 10 clubs have made list changes so that’s 180 observations in this analysis.

No team in that 180 examples has ever turned over less than 5 players from their previous years playing list.

A small handful have made 5 changes
  • 2013 western bulldogs
  • 2019 western bulldogs
  • 2020 richmond

That’s it. Everyone else made 6 or more. In fact, 6 is pretty rare too. It’s usually 8 or 9.
Which is why I can’t see any scenario where Hamling plays for us in 2024.

Colyer, Wilson, Hamling gone.

I expect both Sturt and Henry also gone, shame as both are now showing something.

Benning likely gone too.

And then maybe 1 more that I don’t want to go - don’t know who though.

Interesting numbers. I've been arguing all season we'll make 5-6 changes to our list. Most of those posters have been saying we'll make less - You and a handful of posters seemed to be the only ones that agreed with me.

Just of courisity do these stats include delisted players that end up being redrafted?

If they do I can easily see it being 6-7 changes, otherwise we could easily be adding to the list of teams that only made five changes.

Interesting. In before we have a surprise trade out like Lachie Neale, that came up pretty late from memory.

I remember getting concerned about Neale from this interview here. At 8:00 they ask him about extending his contract beyond 2019 and that little shifty smile when he says "I'll let that play out in due course" had alarm bells ringing. So I wasn't exactly shocked when a few weeks later it comes out he wants a trade.

Look at that piece of trash, little smile as well when he said it. Knowing full well he was hanging out with Fagan a whole bunch already.

Sturt and Henry will both get re-signed, guarantee it, we're not stupid enough to lose them.

Neale leaving was understandable for me. He was always in Fyfes shadow. Probably thought he always would be, too. If only he had a time machine. He would be winning dual brownlows for Freo.
Yeah, but if we didn't lose Neale we wouldn't have that pick 50 odd that we didn't even use that we got for Hogan. Swings and roundabouts.

Just watch us.
This is my biggest list management gripe, we’ve painted ourselves into a corner where we Almost have to lose one, if not both of them.
We only have 4 confirmed outs (Wilson, Colyer, Hamling and Benning) yet require two main list spots for Treacy and Banfield.
If we want to keep Henry and Sturt, we need to start delisting and re rookie contracted players.
Our team is already one of the youngest around but we are about loose two players who are finally finding their feet at the level after 4 and 5 years in the system.

Trading Darcy would be mental unless we’re landing a Naughton or Sam Taylor in return trades - definitely not for picks unless Eagles wanna give us pick 1.

It’s evident that Jackson is elite in the ruck in bursts. We don’t want Treacy in there against competent rucks.

Only player I would trade Darcy for is Sam Taylor
