Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Just watch us.
This is my biggest list management gripe, we’ve painted ourselves into a corner where we Almost have to lose one, if not both of them.
We only have 4 confirmed outs (Wilson, Colyer, Hamling and Benning) yet require two main list spots for Treacy and Banfield.
If we want to keep Henry and Sturt, we need to start delisting and re rookie contracted players.
Our team is already one of the youngest around but we are about loose two players who are finally finding their feet at the level after 4 and 5 years in the system.
If what you say is true, why can't we just use 2 picks in the draft and 2 rookies?

I'd be keeping Hamling too for 1 more season if he was keen to be backup, even as a rookie.

Upgrading Treacy and Banfield isnt an issue, there's basically no distinction between rookie and main list. We can move players easily to the rookie list to make room for any rookie upgrades

I think the people critiquing Freo for signing players on overly long contracts defo have a point, but when it comes to the list spot crunch I'm almost more baffled by how many we drafted in 2022 considering it's a draft class we publicly didn't believe in (Bell/Walls/both said we wanted to trade into the 2023 draft as much as possible). 7 players were drafted in 2022 to Freo, though granted the 2 Cat B rookies are list spots that don't exist if you don't use them.

I wonder if maybe we give someone like Tabs the tap on the shoulder and see if any team needs a tall fwd enough to pay what he's earning and give us a pick of negligible value to free up a list spot.

I think Tabs should go for his own sake if he has any takers.

If I were Taberner I'd be seeing if any other club will offer a contract beyond 2024. The club is already committed to him for 2024 and the competition for spots will be very good for us.

But beyond there I would be surprised if the earning potential for Taberner is that high, especially if Treacy is playing a lot.

I think we need a key forward in the draft for this reason. Or at least an athletic tall that we can play forward or back as required. Draper may be that. Cheap depth developing.

But for Tabs, he needs as much money as he can get out of the remaining footy years and I don't expect that will be with us.

A team in premiership contention but is desperate for KPFs could do a lot worse tbh.

Doubt anyone else takes that risk on such an injury prone player at the age he is.

Struggling to think of a team that desperate for KPFs which is also in premiership contention though tbh.

Where are the rumours that Darcy is leaving???

They seem to have been quietened down.
Started with Sumich writing some nonsense in the paper, which seems to have fooled some dummy journos in Victoria.

Everything on here since then is just general speculation.

I still don't think he leaves.

Harsh on Tabs. Unless we have a mature KPF coming in, we still need a mature KPF to share the season long burden with Amiss and Treacy. Can't expect those young fellas to endure a full season and potential finals against seasoned defenders. If he comes back from his back surgery free of pain, I'd be fine with Tabs playing on in 2024/25.

It's not next season that I'm worried for him, 2025 and 2026. It's a lot easier to get a two or three year deal now than it will be to get one year in two years time.

I want Tabs to get as much as out of footy as he can.

I'd love for him to get a medal around his neck coming in for an injury for his first game at the top level in the preliminary final and then grand final.

I'd be happy for him getting his retirement package too. But if it's gold coast I want their pick five involved.

Tabs should ask to be traded. He is only playing if 2 of amiss,Treacy and Jackson are injured. Too disruptive to the forward line dynamics.

Definitely need a developing forward.

OR Wade Dersken

Don’t see how the developing forward fits in unless we somehow get Taberner or Corbett off the list tbh.

There’s too many talls at Peel as it is with a full strength list and I don’t believe WAFL reserves is great place for a talented KPF to develop.

Might be better off waiting until next year. In 2025 Kuek will be back so there’s some depth without Taberner and Corbett on the list.
