Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I only remember the goss on Schultz and Henry, not Darcy. Most of the talk I've heard is Darcy might leave next year which seems more likely.
Shultz offer from WB matched by Freo.

Henry is gone at seasons end.

I was told Darcy had toured Geelong facilities. As the stadium is under construction I’d assume they just needed someone tall to trial the obstructed view seats. Those away change rooms are amateur/junior footy like. The huddle almost had to line up in two to allow everyone to fit in.

That stadium is the endless construction project. Believe me I know, where I live it takes a year to lay a footpath.

Jon Ralph on the Couch (not much better than Suma really so take it with a grain of salt) seemed to indicate the Cats are gong to the draft and will finally have a big cull on their plus 30 group. Also some players from other clubs they were targeting they have cooled on a bit.

Club is disgustingly well run. They loaded up, got the flag, pivoted to bringing in youth getting cheap younger options from other clubs to begin the rebuild a recognise theres just no more juice there with Selwood and likely very soon Smith and Hawkins gone

Ya their timing is just always right.
On the plus side - Sean Darcy signing up for a few years of rebuilding with kids is hardly too appealing though?

Yep, in our favour is that, despite being superbly run, they are not likely to be winning flags the next few years (not to say we will be either).

Geelong have a first rounder.

They do not have a second rounder, third rounder or fourth rounder.

Outside of trading their future versions of those picks how the **** are they ‘going to the draft’?

They could change that pick into a bunch of other picks if they wanted. I think they'll be shutting up shop with Hawkins and Blicavs out for a bit.

Will trade Ratugolea for something. Wonder who else might be gettable to push their picks along

A team in premiership contention but is desperate for KPFs could do a lot worse tbh.

Doubt anyone else takes that risk on such an injury prone player at the age he is.

Struggling to think of a team that desperate for KPFs which is also in premiership contention though tbh.
Umm I think its us is it not

Def delist/retire:
Wilson, Colyer, Hamling, Benning

Other reasonable delist options:
Reidy, Williams, Kuek (injury)

I’d like to keep but may leave:
Sturt, Henry

Up to 9 changes possible without knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. No need to shift players to the rookie list unless for accounting purposes.

Run with 38 on main list and 4 on rookie list (Reidy, Stanley, Kuek, Worner) the 4 rookies or their replacements. At least 4x picks in main draft and maybe more if Henry / Sturt go.

I would have considered Williams as a delist possible based on being stuck in reserves but his recent couple of games in the seniors have looked really good offensively and he has a profile that is handy, being a speed and skill combo player (wing) with tackling ability. He came to the club as a twig (and still is one), so it would be good to see if he can put on some weight and muscle in a first real preseason before writing him off.

Club training facilities are supposedly top notch, but putting on some size
is not Freo’s forte.
Shultz, JOM, we’re mature age recruits and Fyfe is old school from when we
had an intimidating mindset.
Stephen Hill is probably the best example of how driven we were. Another twig
when drafted.
Unless we get back to those standards, and coaching, sure we will surprise now
again, but I don’t see us taking the comp by storm.

I think the point with Conrad Williams is the likelihood of getting a better Category B rookie this year without going to other sports is pretty slim.

Our NGA prospects simply haven’t performed nearly well enough this season to enough be in the conversation for a list spot tbh.

Williams has some real AFL attributes imo. Good athleticism and good skills - it’s just building up his body to a point where he can use them.

Hamling isn’t a definite delist. But likely we delist and consider as rookie list back-up for one more year.

I personally think we should do the same with Corbett.

No way Kuek is delisted. He just re-signed for 1 year.

I agree with recent comments on Williams. In the absence of any other better Cat B options he will get the chance for a proper pre-season and hopefully put on a bit of size.

I think there will be only 6, maybe 7 changes which is less than usual but after last year that is preferable from my perspective.

I think it was 2014 trade and ND we made bugger all changes. No trades at all and went and used our three usual picks which ended up being Weller, Blakely & Langdon. Then added Deluca and Ethan Hughes as rookies. Only 4-5 changes (Tanner Smith was delisted and rookied).

I feel it is a good year to consolidate if possible. Look for a moneyball trade (that improves the team) if one becomes available - especially if Henry is on the way out.

Tell suitors for Darcy and Cox to bugger off. On Darcy someone would have to be willing to sell the farm. If they are then I guess my thoughts go out the window.

With regards to Reidy if we decide to delist him we really need to look at a ready made mature ruck who can come in and play when Darcy is injured. If Jackson is injured I feel we can make do with pinch ruck like Treacy.
