Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Would be gutted if Darcy goes but if he does we should aim to turn him into Pickett and Grundy. I think that would be a net win / best case scenario.
Melbourne might be looking at options for Grundy ( they could even pay part of his salary on top of the Pies!!), clearly doesn’t work having both him and Gawn in the team whereas I think it would with Jackson being more versatile around the ground.
Plus Pickett is exactly what we need if he’s keen to move.

Unfortunately Kozi Pickett re-signed earlier in the year for a long time. He would've been my number 1 target to go after.

Def delist/retire:
Wilson, Colyer, Hamling, Benning

Other reasonable delist options:
Reidy, Williams, Kuek (injury)

I’d like to keep but may leave:
Sturt, Henry

Up to 9 changes possible without knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. No need to shift players to the rookie list unless for accounting purposes.

Run with 38 on main list and 4 on rookie list (Reidy, Stanley, Kuek, Worner) the 4 rookies or their replacements. At least 4x picks in main draft and maybe more if Henry / Sturt go.

I doubt Williams would be delisted. I'm certain he was a very speculative selection and knowing full well that he'll take time to show much so why delist after 1 year? He's also actually developed well too. At the start of the season he couldn't get amongst it in the ressies but built gradually as the season went on to build ok disposal numbers. His promotion was gifted but he gets a tick for coping with the promotion.

I think, unless there's attitude or behaviour issues, we'd be mad to get rid of him without giving him 3 years to see what he can do.

I don't think everyone on here understands the concept of the Category B rookie list. We can't just stick anyone on it.

Players we can place on it are:
  • NGA prospects overlooked in the National Draft
  • Players that haven't played footy for 3+ years at any level
  • Players from overseas

Outside of our NGA prospect who's going top 20, our NGA guys this year have shown **** all.

Personally unless we can find an absolute freak that meets one of the other criteria we simply aren't finding a better prospect for that spot than Conrad Williams.

That's before you even consider he's actually developed pretty well this year which tbh should probably be what is considered first.

It's only really Ultan Kelm who would have pushed him out if that path was still proceeding, which I'm not sure it is.

Why would Dees want Darcy. Defeats the purpose not giving a game to Grundy.

Geelong makes since.

Hamling isn’t a definite delist. But likely we delist and consider as rookie list back-up for one more year.

I personally think we should do the same with Corbett.

No way Kuek is delisted. He just re-signed for 1 year.

I agree with recent comments on Williams. In the absence of any other better Cat B options he will get the chance for a proper pre-season and hopefully put on a bit of size.

I think there will be only 6, maybe 7 changes which is less than usual but after last year that is preferable from my perspective.

I think it was 2014 trade and ND we made bugger all changes. No trades at all and went and used our three usual picks which ended up being Weller, Blakely & Langdon. Then added Deluca and Ethan Hughes as rookies. Only 4-5 changes (Tanner Smith was delisted and rookied).

I feel it is a good year to consolidate if possible. Look for a moneyball trade (that improves the team) if one becomes available - especially if Henry is on the way out.

Tell suitors for Darcy and Cox to bugger off. On Darcy someone would have to be willing to sell the farm. If they are then I guess my thoughts go out the window.

With regards to Reidy if we decide to delist him we really need to look at a ready made mature ruck who can come in and play when Darcy is injured. If Jackson is injured I feel we can make do with pinch ruck like Treacy.
Fremantle list changes in 2014 (6 in total)

Kepler Bradley (ret)
Scott Gumbleton (ret)
Sam Menegola (del)
Josh Simpson (del)
Tanner Smith (del)
Michael Wood (del)

We lost 10 players last year, we don't need to delist/move on 6 players this year.

Just keep it to Colyer, Benning, Willo, Henry. If we are drafting a small forward than we can delist Emmett as well. Move Corbett to rookie list.
As Dockeroo proved, no team has turned over less than 5 players in a decade, we are almost definitely turning over at least 5

Crazy talk delisting Hamling what happens when one of our key defenders go down as we’ve seen , yeah Davies and Draper no thanks at this point i’d like to stick with the key Premiership defender, i mean they picked Hammer over the two i mentioned straight away which tells me they aren’t ready and probably won’t be for awhile.

Agree have to keep him on list

No point moving him on and getting another senior KPF as backup. Unless Hammer doesn't want a 1 year contract and can get 2 more somewhere else.

Same with Reidy & Tabs. We need senior backup in those positions so why move someone on who we need to replace this draft. I highly doubt we can get can get cheaper / better backup elsewhere. It rarely pans out that way and the older players are already settled at the club and know our systems.

So who are your 5-6?
Colyer
Wilson
Benning (seems cruel but likely)
Hamling (definitely should keep one more year until Davies/Draper can fill the breach)
Henry (damn shame as he’s just coming into form)
Sturt (ditto with Henry)
Reidy (also cruel to only give him one year but we need someone who will step in if Darcy is injured)
That’s 7 to chose from, the rest would all require a payout to part ways with.
I’d like to keep 3 of the 7, Henry, Sturt and Hamling

Yeah keep hearing the excuse we’re too young , but lets move Hammer on and throw Davies and Draper to the wolves that will work out well if Pearce and Cox go down at the same time.

Benning is hardly cruel, he's played 1 WAFL league game in two years and from what I've seen, that's not a talent issue.

My 5 is your first listed which will make it very interesting if Henry stays. Reidy is more required than Hamling IMO both next year and the years after.

I would personally pay out Kuek or Corbett if I could

Not Suggesting he would go to the Dee’s just that we could use the currency from any Darcy trade for a Pickett/Grundy duo. However another poster has pointed out that Pickett has re-signed so there goes my master plan!!!
Would much prefer just to keep Darcy but looking at options if he does go.

These discussions continually are arguing the wrong thing. If you want to keep Hamling you need to either
A) Justify why turning over less players then any club basically ever is worth it; or
B) Justify cutting Reidy, Sturt or Stanley instead...
Do you think Davies and Draper can pick up the slack if Pearce and Cox go down cos i can’t.

You can't assume we will retain all our players. The list changes on average you talk about include the total washup at the end of the year. This time last year we probably thought 5 changes and ended up with 10.

Wilson, Benning & Colyer gone.

2 players ask for trades and we have our 5 while keeping some of the senior depth. Some of the senior depth might ask for trades too if they can get longer contracts elsewhere.

I have zero problem cutting Reidy.

Wilson, Colyer, Benning easy delists. Henry is gone whether we like it or not. That’s 4 players already off the main list. We’ve got two of the best young rucks in the comp. We don’t need both Knobel and Reidy too.

Ideally I would like to keep Hamling but for one year but if the alternative is losing one of the other names, I think Davies can pinch hit for the odd game next year otherwise they can shuffle deckchairs between Ryan, Chapman and Hughes.

I've said that and that becomes a separate discussion if that happens. I hope we arent losing any contracted players and I hope Sturt signs on.
