Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

A lot of people seem to forget that Brodie was seen as an odd trade target when we brought him in, he was on the outer of Gold Coast's midfield and didn't play many first team minutes. Yet he came in and took the opportunity by the balls, he was easily the best recruit last year competition wife.

How can you say Sharp wouldn't be similar? You can't.

Can’t recall who called this first…oh wait that was me.

No one thought that, he came with pick 19.

He was never seen as anything more than a depth player when he was traded in, that's the point I was making. Him becoming a top tier midfielder that year was a massive bonus.

Sharp can go through the exact same journey, of course he can.

The parallels don't end there: both were showing decent AFL level output in their preferred positions 2 seasons before being traded to us, then got VFLed apart from some games in largely unfavourable positions for their skillsets.

What about whos wife?

Brodie wasn't odd to me anyway, we got 19 out of it. That was the whole point of the move, a salary dump from the Suns.

Warning: hysterical and self-harming trade strategy post below.

I'd love the club to take an extremely hard stance with Liam Henry's trade value, with being comfortable in the potential outcome of him entering the PSD. If only to make the threat known that Colin's consistent wheeling & dealing can backfire. Although Henry would likely get to his preferred club anyway so ignore this post. I am just a little bit angry right now.

Yes that was same deal I proposed, which is around pick points value of 25.

We then use F4 for Sharp.

Likely we use 58 as well depending on the veteran list possibility for Walters. I would be delisting both Corbett and Hamling and moving to Rookie list spots.

I know others have questioned why we are into Sharp, but given our lack of high picks he has to be our number one target this trade period. First of all up until about 6-7 weeks ago Henry was also struggling to get a game with a low club. Guys like Ed Langdon spent his first 3 years mainly running around in the WAFL before establishing himself in his fourth year (again at a club on the bottom end of the table) so I think judging guys by what they have achieved in the first 2-3 years is dangerous. Sharp in his draft year (which was super strong) was top 10 in the 20m sprint and the 2km time trail smashing guys like Rowell, Will Day, Lachie Ash, Serong, Henry, Anderson in both. So he is quicker than Henry and has a bigger tank. Also I’m pretty sure he was an U18 AA as a bottom ager (so got AA twice). We have plenty of inside mids and we need a pure athletic winger who can run up and down the ground to help the backs and also kick some goals. Also at 187cm Sharp is a good size to float in and help out the backs. As absolute must have in my eyes…

It probably isn’t a major factor in this particular Henry situation, but as someone else said on the other thread - if we don’t get deep into the finals mix next season, playing meaningful, big games late in the year, we will have more players submitting trade requests at the end of next year.
Another year of ****ing about in the relative obscurity of 13th or 14th all year, playing the last month of the H&A season in dead rubber matches of no real consequence, and any other AFL clubs who are like ruthless vultures, will be circling our young stars with promises to them and their agents that they’ll find hard to refuse.
Whether we like to admit it or not, elements of the footy industry in Melbourne in particular are starting to see freo as a development club in recent years, and from our point of view losing players before they hit their peak is just galling.

Sharp would have to be like a Jordan Clark to do that. Either Gold coast have a gem they have been mismanaging or we are screwed.
It's Gold Coast, it's very likely that Sharp has been mismanaged.

Gold Coast don't know how to spot or develop talent.
