Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I didn't mind him going originally.... And then we got a future 3rd for him. Which annoyed me.
Then we played Hughes (who I rate as a defender) on the wing unsuccessfully. I was disgruntled.
Then he started playing well for the blues in the second half of the year. Then I was genuinely pissed.
On top of Henry being a spud early, seemed like he doesn’t want to work for it - which has proven true. Then gifted games because better to develop him and HOPE he signs on.

What a **** up

I reckon Freo would flip him for a high teens pick if it was on offer. We’ve got enough inside mids as is.
Not in the right age group.
JOM could retire next season. He’s 30.
Brodie wasn’t preferred and who knows. Could leave
Fyfe is cooked

Erasmus is very important.

Someone posted in this thread a few days ago that Acers defensive transition, to play as a extra behind the ball won us extra games last year,
Well kudos to you! He just won Carlton that game by doing exactly that. And exactly what he did for us last year.
Well done Bell you overrated peanut.
Acres won Carlton that game?

Really?

I mean.....really?

Wow

He was probably Fremantle’s best finals player last year. He battled against Collingwood in the semi.
I know that as long-suffering Dockers fans we have to magnify his strengths and minimise his weaknesses while most did the exact opposite while he was at the club, but Caleb Serong played both finals games.

Ok.

Not a lot happening so have trimmed this a fair bit. (And yes, I took Heppell out. It seems redundant given that it's such a certainty)

Freo said we are trying to extend his contract when he hit his trigger earlier in the year. we are 100% offering more money but the Darcy deal needs to be done first

How is Acres is s**t and we are a better side without him argument going lately?

The issues I have with Acres game is there for everyone to see, including all the opposition teams that exploited specifically that in their rubbish middle patch of the year.

I still believe we can replace his hard running skied ball turnovers and holding up the play for the one single year he was any good for us.

When Carlton come up against a side with a transition game and score from turnover Acres will cost them the game, as he almost did tonight in those last two minutes giving it back. They just choked.

Fortunately for Carlton Melbourne are good at the same ball burning inside fifty.

Acres biggest asset is his huge tank.
Acres biggest flaw is his disposals.
An athletic beast spud.
He is a frustrating player and Carlton fans hate him most of the time.
He has this confounding ability to simultaneously win and lose a game. This time it was a win. Plenty of times it's an Acres loss.

And? Match winner.

All I was doing was pointing out the area of his game which has and will always be a problem. His ball use and turnovers.

I’ve indicated many times that we have missed Acres. His two way running on the wing was a big reason for our success last year. Yes his two way running was on display with that last quarter goal line save.

His third quarter also stank and so too was his form just before the bye when his long kicks forward were not helping and they were losing games terribly.

Henry doesn’t have that tank and running capacity. He also played terribly after the first game against Saints. He certainly doesn’t turn the ball over as much but does often try to chew off more than he can bite and his kicking has and always will lack penetration.

Acres has no issue with depth in kicking but often like Luke Ryan is prone to just smashing the ball long for a turnover.

Acres for the first couple of years under contract with Freo was pretty average and suffered injuries. He was dropped in 2021 and played 1 WAFL game and another week was an emergency.

He was indeed missed especially in the first half of the year by Freo. The club obviously felt he would be adequately covered by the likes of Henry, Hughes and NOD. The club was wrong.

He was really worth a late 2nd but the club obviously didn’t value him that much. Pick 52 will likely be used in a trade. At one point when Carlton were no good it was around 45. It will come in after bid matching to around 45-50. The difference between a trade pick of 35 and 47 in this draft isn’t much.

Offensively, s**t. Defensively, very good.
He’s good defensively due to his body size and running ability but I personally prefer wingers to be good offensively if there has to be a choice. (Obviously in an ideal world to be good both ways)
