Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Mitchell’s Henry coup only the start
Sam Mitchell has emerged as Hawthorn’s secret weapon as a recruiting tool in coming seasons as Liam Henry moves towards nominating the Hawks as his club of choice.
Player managers report Mitchell has put together a brilliant pitch to their players as the Hawks hope their recent improvements put them in the picture for a number of big names.
Geelong’s Esava Ratugolea chose Port Adelaide and North Melbourne’s Ben McKay might ultimately look elsewhere.
But Henry is expected to choose Hawthorn over St Kilda, with the Dockers wingman one of a number of players highly impressed by Mitchell.
His overall vision for the club, his specific intel on how he would coach them and his professionalism in selling the future have all been noted.
As a first-year coach, some rivals scoffed when Mitchell contacted opposition coaches himself as the Hawks tried to make moves to get up the draft board.
Yet, if you can’t get players to your club – even when you are rebuilding – it doesn’t matter how talented you are with the tactical and leadership side of coaching.
Hawthorn won’t want to give up a pick in the 15-25 range the Dockers are asking for, so get set for some prolonged haggling.

To **** Young off I would send him to the PSD if we can’t get a decent pick. But I doubt Bell has the balls

Acres won Carlton that game?

Really?

I mean.....really?

Wow

look at the defining moments of that game,
I’m not calling him a stud, but his work rate to get back and defend the goal line and get a touch on 2 certain goals, in a game decided by 1, he probably has. Could also claim he kicked the sealer too.
Wasn’t the only out there butchering the ball as everyone keeps pointing too

In the minority but I hope we cash out on Darcy and build the team around Jackson no1 ruck with Treacy as the chop out.
That would be dumb and exactly what lots of draft enthusiasts on here would love. Another 100 game player leaving to play the next 8 years of his career at the business end of the competition while we continue to drink out own bath water about how our “youngest list in the comp” will be unstoppable in 5 years time, whilst finishing bottom 7 again, and again and again.

Rinse and repeat every year, like we have done since 2017.

It’s time to back in the mature players we have and it’s up to the coach to get this list working so that we have a competitive finals 22 to put on the park.
It’s time to stop being a feeder club.

Acres is a best 22 wing in any side in the AFL and probably provides more defensively then any wing going around. Is he a ceiling raiser with awesome disposal? No, but do you need superstar wings to be a good team? I think we’ve missed him a lot last year and it was an arrogant and stupid decision to push him out, not the least because we thought Hughes could play there

No disrespect , but that would be like cutting your nose off to spite your face wouldn't it ?
I know people are angry with Liam for wanting out but this is the AFL landscape now and we all need to get used to it.
I think it will be a straight swap for pick 29. It's not all that bad and Liam is not a star player, yes he has potential but its not guaranteed.

Or we could just let Young ream us every year without doing anything

I’d agree with this. What’s the point in sending him to the PSD?
We might be able to draft someone like Collard with pick 29 but the PSD gives us nothing

Correct. Don’t think it’s good list management to have Brayshaw, Serong, Young, Johnson, Fyfe, JOM, Brodie, Jackson (who can also play inside mid), as well as Erasmus.

You could potentially get a teens pick for him. Package that up with norths pick and whatever we get for Henry, and we should be able to put a compelling offer to GC for their first.
Let's be honest I'd give Fyfe very long odds of playing a full season ever again and Brodie probably won't get a game. So you can remove them from the list.

Injury riddled and not athletic enough for the modern game. Rather spend dough on someone else.

This is the crossroads Eagles had with Dean Cox. They should of cashed out when they had big offers.

Looks like we’re keeping Darcy anyway so it is what it is. I’m ok with it but he has no durability so I hope the contract isn’t long and expensive.

I’m sorry but that is a massive stretch.
Collingwood, Sydney, St Kilda, Adelaide just from top of my head have all way better wings imo

I think the club thought they had Angus Brayshaw in the bag and the plan was to play him on the wing that’s why we were so content lowballing Acres.

Melbourne then upped their offer and blew us out of the water and Acres had already committed elsewhere.

You win some you lose some

We are pandering to Young. Every.****ing.year which gives us nothing. We have lost a LOT more than 29 in pick value over the years because of him and no one gives a shit. Time to give it back

Isn’t Walls the one who does the trading?
No, you don’t understand. Bell is responsible for anything that doesn’t work out, even if we are judging it on short term outcomes rather than being silly and assessing things after and appropriate period of time has passed.

Good decisions: others managed to overrule Bell this time thank god
bad decisions: ****ing Bell over-reaching his role as usual

(would acres have made us better in 2023 - yes, I honestly think so. Would he have made us better in 2025 - I don’t believe so. 2025 is the more important timeframe)

Teams play like 3 wings, I call shenanigans that those teams have 3 better wings each

Except those team’s wings can play other roles whereas Acres can’t (not effectively anyway) if what you’re saying is true. There’s no way Acres is a walk up start at Collingwood and Sydney no matter what his form is (barring injuries)

Probably obvious in my posts in regards to Acres but I’ll put a late disclaimer anyway. Yeah I don’t like him, I think he’s a campaigner and I think we’re better off without him in the long run. Last time I felt like this about a (ex) Freo player was Jeff ****ing White so it’s not a regular occurrence. It takes a special kind of campaigner to get me revved up like this.

There, I feel so good saying all that 😁

They must have missed Hayden McLean playing like he was 8ft tall and keeping Sydney in the game with their ball movement.

Hard to argue with that. A 3rd rounder that might be a 3 or 4 pick upgrade on a pick we probably won't even use is pretty much useless to us.

If there's ever a moment to stand up to Young and his shit, it's this. At least it would send a message to any player whose ear Young has that it's not as bloody easy to move clubs as he's saying when you're not a free agent.
