Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Hunter Clark. I liked him as a junior but has been a little disappointing. We may be able to do something with him.

I see Jack Billings named mentioned here and there. I don't know anything about him though.

Edit: Hunter Clark^ is a better age profile at 24. Billings is 28.

Fyfe has played about 15 games in 3 years and is 32 next week.
JoM is almost 30 and has already been shifted around the park at times this year and will almost certainly have to do that more as he ages.

Erasmus is still 19. This tirade against him is yet another in the long list of posters have zero patience and/or idea about how AFL players develop. It's asinine.

It's also ridiculous to ignore injuries which will happen..
It isn’t a tirade against him at all, I just think our future midfield brigade is stacked and we could put the capital to better use elsewhere.

Do the Saints have any players that could be potentially involved in the Henry trade?

Scuttlebutt is that St Kilda are going to be big movers to adjust the team more to Lyon's liking and lots of players could be on the market.

So anyone can take their academy players essentially?

Yeah, any team can bid and they choose to match if they think that draft pick minus the discount represents value for that academy player.

I think the biggest players in Henry to St Kilda would be Brad Hill and Michael Walters. Henry calling Brad and Michael to talk about Ross Lyon and Ross Lyon calling Walters to talk about Henry.

That’s incorrect.
They do have to match bids.
They can match them from anywhere however even if it’s pick 1 the bid comes in.

When I say "match bids" I am referring to the process by which the club with the academy player chooses to retain that player and not let them go to the club that made the bid.

They are not compelled to pay to keep the player. They can let them slide right on by.

If that's the case than we should aim for Sydney's 22 pick. They have a player in the academy that's projected at pick 21. We can give them the points to match.

I think the club thought they had Angus Brayshaw in the bag and the plan was to play him on the wing that’s why we were so content lowballing Acres.

Melbourne then upped their offer and blew us out of the water and Acres had already committed elsewhere.

You win some you lose some
Brayshaw re-signed in July last year until 2028. He was closer than most thought of coming to Freo. Bell obviously thought Acres would settle for a one year contract after a career best season. Good thing Freo had a surplus of midfielders to replace him 🤦‍♂️

Ya I think Jako was asking if they are prevented from matching the bid outside 40 like everyone else apart from the northern academies.
Interestingly one of the few clubs not to match a bid was Sydney in 2015 for Josh Dunkley at pick 26.
A mistake in hindsight by the swans as he was worth a lot more subsequently

Word on that father son non matching was that Dunkley didn't want to leave Melbourne so Swans said if he was bid on before a certain pick he would be left alone but after that point they'd want him because of the value.

Saints is a great result for us.

Henry 58 and 21 for saints 13 and 28 (values Henry at 23)

Gives us 13, 28, 40, 52

Trade 28, 40 and 52 for a pick in the teens

We are either taking 2 and a rookie or 3 with no rookies

I’m at the G now watching the saints.
If they think they are in a position to hand over pick 13 for Liam Henry they are more deluded than anyone can imagine.
A list with lots of effort and heart but lacking in class.
They need pick 13 to be used at the draft

Saints won't give up 13

We have to try and wrangle some other clubs first rounder, someone who trades off for bids

If Dogs trade up to GC 4 then GC will offload those teens picks, they might unlock the trade for us

Until the trade gods through Liam Henry is a class kick they desperately need..

And wait 3 years till they're humming? They'll be ready for the next rebuild by then.

That's the key for a player going to a club at that end of the table, they want 25 AFL games out of them from the first year to slot right into their system.

It's why Wellingham and Redden went for first round picks.
