The info on Sanders NGA situation did not come from nor was it related to anything to do with North. The situation that I was responding to wasn't them out bidding us. It was North not bidding and daring WC to take Reid.

In that scenario, and if WC don't want Reid, then they would trade the pick before drafting someone else.

Geelong want to buy. In terms of picks they have #8 which they can't afford to spend because if they lose that all they have is #86.

So Geelong have to sell players. But all they have is Esava and they don't want to sell that cheaply.

So Geelong can't buy and they're not willing to sell. Puts them in a bind doesn't it?

Cats should take #24 in a heartbeat and forget Lord. #24 for a bloke who's played 75 games in 6 years. 5 out of 14 finals in that time. With no other picks between #8-86? That's a good deal.

Nice to win a flag, play finals every year. They've been awesome. But it sucks to have an ageing list, no draft capital, and no Dangerfields, Abletts or Camerons wanting to walk in the door.

Their time has come.

It’s so simple.

Future first and 2 for Reid and Darling

Pick 3 on whichever we think is best available not taken by west coast.

Trade pick 15 to GWS for 7 and Haynes. Take O’Sullivan or unlikely Watson. Perfect spot in the draft for O’Sullivan.

Use remaining picks of 17 and 18 for best available key position players, small forwards, lock down dour defenders.

Go into next season with Reid, Darling, Mckercher, O’Sullivan, two developing list hole fillers, Stephens, Fisher, Pink and George, and hopefully turn that pick 4 for west coast into a pick 8-10 for the privilege of watching Reid run around in blue and white.

We're not giving up our future first for pick 1.

Despite being a total onfield wreck for years, we haven't lost anyone of value without getting clearly more in return:

• A broken Brown for a decent pick
• A faded Tarrant
• A past-it Higgins
• A last-gasp Goldie
• A highly talented flog for an equally talented legend + pick 14
• An over-rated strong-as-an-ox-and-twice-as-smart fullback for pick 3.

At the same time we've attracted:

• Stephenson
• Logue (&Tucker)
• Stephens
• Fisher

Big tick to culture.

The Adelaide offer was 6, 6 and swapping like 17 for 21. So lets look for an equivalent value offer from North.

North happen to have 17 & WC have 22... close enough.

I would say that 2 & 15 have similar value to 6 & 6.

So your "Adelaide offer" equivalent would be...
North get picks 1 and 22
WC get picks 2, 15 and 17.

Consolidate the three later firsts if we must, but pissing away 4-5 firsts in a trade to then get Reid is dumb when we still have holes in the 22 everywhere. Hawthorn lost Franklin and Geelong lost GAJ, and they both won flags immediately afterwards. Don't need the best player if you have the best team. Defence is a shambles, we have dodgy ruck stocks, and one key forward and no real quality small forward.

Now I just watched the Zac Fisher highlights , may I ask what’s wrong with him? Why did Carlton want him gone? They were pretty impressive highlights

Carlton supporting mates had this to say (my comments in brackets)

• decent when the team's going well but gets found out in high pressure situations (basically calling him a downhill skier).
• not reliable defensively (not really the first priority of what his role will be though).
• gets out-bodied due to small frame (hopefully he doesn't get left one out in the goal square like McMillan was).
• one sided (I mean most players are and highlights include a nice right snap goal but anyway).

He's an upgrade on, Sheezel aside, easily the worst HBF group in the comp. I think it was an astute move in the short term and it's up to Fisher to prove he's a best 22 player in a contending team which we'd hope to be in 3 years time.
In his last 4 games he averaged 26 disposals so it's actually shocking he was dropped for finals. It worked though I guess.

No inside knowledge here, but everything you hear about Harley Reid screams leadership and follow me.

His work ethic and appetite to get the job done is also elite from all reports.

Despite the talent we have we are screaming out for this type of leader to drive a group of relative introverts.

It appears he is the antithesis of JHF and our club is bereft of this type of leadership.

The other players in this draft crop just don’t have that presence, and I’d suggest that is why the club is so keen to get him in the door.

His talent is one thing but his personality profile is unique to anything we have on our list at the moment.

He’s exactly what we need and if we overpay for someone moving the needle in this space with swagger and talent to back it up, then go for it I say. The list build doesn’t have to be completed this year!!

Played mostly hf/wing and he drifted in and out of games a lot. Went missing a lot and had some real low disposal games.
