Best thing about this...When do you suggest most trade deals get started - in trade week? Yeah its March but clubs approach players sometimes years before they come out of contract, how do you think Geelong attracted Bowes. They had inside running on GCS TPP knew Bowes was a heavily back ended contract and targetted him a long way out. It goes without saying we have other options, but I am just concerned with our history we will over rate what TDK will bring. I hope you are right, but you may have also heard Ross quip "we are not seen as a destination club". Hopefully we target others, as they mentioned in the HS - Harry Himmilberg is a FA this year, but if we lose Gresham as a FA will would have to trade for him.
I understand its media speculaton, but where there's smoke there are fire. We finally have an excellent person in charge of recuiting in Chris TOCE, and now we are 'supposedly' looking to trade out our early selections? Silvagni & Allan might be just pressuring Carlton's cap, with an eye elsewhere I very much hope that is the case.
I'm just wondering which particular clubs' draft/trade strategy we should follow.
Last year's premiers would have had at least 6/7 possibly even 8 players in their team that came from other clubs.
Add a father/son freebie who turns out to be a gun full forward.
Melbourne probably had less imports but were gifted Clayton Oliver and traded away Pick 6 for May and two first rounders for Lever.
And people go bonkers because we traded Pick 10 for Howard, Hill and Paddy.
Best thing about this...
Sydney set to offer TDK mammoth 8 year deal, people are all "omg Sydney know what they are doing, the kids a gun"
Saints have a sniff around and our own supporters are "will we ever learn FFS"
Its just pure comedy that you can't make up...

Surely he wouldn’t cost 2 first round picks?De Koning looks confused. 2 x FRD picks when you are rebuilding is a weird step for a player not yet star quality.
Think you might be confused with a few thingsI'm just wondering which particular clubs' draft/trade strategy we should follow.

We didn’t trade 10 for Hill, Howard and Ryder. It was 6 (plus a 2nd, Acres and more). We could have quite easily got Howard and Ryder without giving up 6. Hill was just a mistake there is no doubt.
Clayton Oliver wasn’t gifted to Melbourne, they traded up in the draft to get him.
And Melbourne had a quality young list before they traded away top picks so that’s not a great comparison.
the key take away from the dekoning discussion isn't so much the cost or the contract size. its more carltons TPP position. it sounds like they're effectively screwed and need to offload some players.
That wasn't what I was getting at. What I was saying is that it seems to be awesome when another team does it and our supporters are in awe of them, but when it comes to the saints, they get crucified for any decision. It's just borderline stupidity...I cant recall anyone suggesting an 8 year deal with Sydney made him a gun? Quite the contrary a few were amazed at the length and at the end of the day he is not even a dominant ruckman let alone a good forward. The entire idea of giving up a 1st round and/or more for him stinks of a desparate club as far as I am concerned.
People have short memories, do you all remember what our recruiting was like during Lyon's first tenure with the club. He may have changed, but he has one of his best mates as our List Manager and is already having far too much influence on our list strategy IMO.

That would be horrible, hope you’re wrongMy prediction is we'll trade Marshall end of year. Jweb and Ross to explore their options, Hunter gone if he doesn't fire, offers taken on Membrey.

I think Marshall will be the last person we trade, can see him being one of our most important players over the next 3 - 4 yearsIt probably makes sense to trade Marshall rather than get a pick in the 20s for Gresham, RM will be 28 next year and probably only has 4 years left. If we aren't playing finals for a while we should be looking at that age group.
Ross and Webster are the only old guys who were drafted to the club. Both will be 30 next year. Next under that are Billings and Sinclair at 28 and 29 next year. Those guys are cultural links. You probably want to keep a couple.
Yeah I think you're right - a couple too many reds already.Think you might be confused with a few things

Maybe. I doubt Hawks fans are that angry at the club about throwing away draft picks for another crack at a flag, but at the same time it doesn’t mean we have to pretend we didn’t make mistakes.Yeah I think you're right - a couple too many reds already.
That said, the reason they had a quality young list is that they were s*** for so long. They probably had 10 top 10 picks between 2008 and 2017.
And they were still s*** - no wonder they could afford to trade away a few more.
I doubt anyone would have been too fussed about our position it if we'd won the premiership in 2009 & 2010.

Only a practice game but he was good against the Dons, will be in our top 3 in the B&F and go close to AA imo
I'm hoping that Clark & Gresh have such good years that we cant let them goThey want picks, I reckon he's the only one that has currency. If they are chasing TDK could be that they are looking at trading. Just putting my club hat on. They reckon we'll lose a few players we want to keep as fans..
