I don't think Zac Butters is really on the cards, but for argument sake, let's say it is, what do we have to do to get the trade capital to get him?

Well then, we should draft a midfielder who is unlikely to be drafted then - say, someone like Jai Newcombe.
He was overlooked in his draft year wasn't he ? Seems to go OK ?
We can try that for sure. I’m sure if it were as easy as easy to find talented mids late in the draft or in the mid season draft everyone would be doing it though.

We did find Sinclair after every club over looked him twice, good players do get over looked but you have to get lucky.

GWS at the moment have picks 6 & 9, then nothing to 47. I dont think they have any academy kids coming in this year? So for them to give up a 1st round pick would be a big ask, even if they were to get Clark and Hayne's salary of their books. They would also be one of the clubs talking to WCE about their No 1 pick.

For the Saints to take on Haynes reported at 1.2m next year it would put a huge dent in our ability to chase a quality midfielder. I guess if the club were to get pick 6 or 9 in the deal perhaps they think they can get a decent midfielder with that pick? I guess if we miss out on Flanders, Parish etc the draft is the way to go.

Be interested in who we look like bringing out from Ireland? Did I hear that Nick Walsh was involved in the player signing for us? Did he return to Ireland after he left the club?
I don't think we're luring any big midfielder, we have to Draft our talent

With the Draft in mind.
Out: Clark + our 2nd.
In: Haynes + Pick 9.

2 picks in the Top 12 or so is fantastic in any Draft, back Toce in.

Gresham out for compensation, on traded to Freo for Henry.

I can't see any way Giants would be giving up a top 10 pick for Clark, even with a second going back.

Huge salary dump incentive for them is the prime driver.

Haynes is still getting a game each week. A club with enough salary in their cap can pick him up and use him until his contract runs out at the end of next year.

Very different to Bowes and his crazy high back loaded contract. ( i think around $800 000) A player who is marginal to get selected. Think Liam Stocker on $800 000.
...
um...
He's going to rip us apart next weekend isn't he?

Harmes is pretty average, my Melbourne supporting mates don't rate him at all

If you have Oliver, Viney, Petracca and others he's pretty shit but he'd probably play in our best 22. I don't really rate him and don't think he's good enough to take up a spot. Prefer a Crouch or Mathieson. I'd look at Kai Lohmann, Bailey Laurie types too.

I think you should if his dad thinks he is 28

I think because Klaatu said "he's 28 and going to Essendon" he actually means Harmes and not Haynes, because that weird headed unit was also being discussed here.

Cordy has been underrated this year. Early in the season he provided leadership and experience to the forward line and now in the backline and in the ruck. Surprisingly, Cordy spent weeks in the VFL when I suspect it was decided to give the younger guys game time.

The experience of Cordy and Membrey provides the separation needed to allow Max and other forwards to shine.

Two first with a second back seems to be the going rate for high end mids. Probably just this and next years FRDPs then perhaps trade back in using Gresham compo and the second received with GC.

Jeremy Sharp might be a good one to look at too.

Think Harmes is very underrated, but like Dow at Carlton may look good in a very good midfield.

Nah , he replied to Punters post about Haynes

Think Ross isn’t very happy with the list. Almost feels like we are about to rebuild again

I’d be very surprised if that’s the road that Ross chooses to go down.

I don't think a "rebuild" would be as dramatic as the word implies. The way I see it, we're 2 years into a rebuild. It doesn't mean you have to get rid of everyone over the age of 25.

If we can land both Zac Butters and Tarryn Thomas then Butters & Thomas may finally help us land that elusive 2nd flag ;)
