2+ million combined next year only. Could potentially cover with gresh Howard and extending 1 or both for another year. You would expect one or the other, we couldn't take two 31 year olds whose best are behind them on huge $$$

I hate this stuff. No way would we do it and we shouldn’t. May as well play 18 Weightmans and play for frees all day.A funny twist on that would be
Step 1 - Essendon put up a big fat contract for Gresham
Step 2 - St Kilda gets band 1 compensation
Step 3 - We trade pick 31 to Freo for Henry
Step 4 - We offer 51 for Shiel or they can keep him and his contract
Dont know if that would happen for a couple of reasons.A funny twist on that would be

I would say with Membrey we wouldn't move him on would not be good look to the wider football community to move him on while he has mental issues.Future second?
Still have to work through Paton Coffield Clark Billings and Howard.
I would add Membrey. But who knows there

But they’ve both only got 1 year to run. If we can fit it … If Haynes brought in, say, a late first? You would expect one or the other, we couldn't take two 31 year olds whose best are behind them on huge $$$
Absolutely on board provided it’s a decent pick. I’m glad we are using our brains for once. Same as Shiel - player doesn’t matter so much, all about regenerating around that young core
The pick is the reason why.So he's 32 next year we commit to 2 years, what is thew benefit unless we get a draft pick involved.
For me, he’s 27. I would absolutely take that …Would we be happy with a future end of first round for Howard? Needs more i'm thinking.
Sellers market so yeah.Would we be happy with a future end of first round for Howard? Needs more i'm thinking.

This is who I was referring to yesterday.
Very early discussions. Let’s see what happens. You can see below why it might not work.
Unless our basket case club has caused them and he wants to go elswhere.I would say with Membrey we wouldn't move him on would not be good look to the wider football community to move him on while he has mental issues.
Fair enough, however Haynes wants two. If we got say pick 13 and Sheil and say pick 15 and Haynes, I would be calling SoS an absolute genius. But they’ve both only got 1 year to run. If we can fit it … If Haynes brought in, say, a late first?
We’re using what we have which is smart, if the deals make sense it’s great stuff. The pick is the reason why.
But…. You would think It probably spells the end to Coffield if it happened.
Both Haynes and Shiel would be playing senior footy for us if it happened. Maybe not every week. But they would be coming because it gives us picks and we can use them in the short term
Howard out play short for a year or two with cordy/Haynes then hopefully Van Es is ready.Fair enough, however Haynes wants two. If we got say pick 13 and Sheil and say pick 15 and Haynes, I would be calling SoS an absolute genius.
Sheil and Haynes while not at the top of their game are still AFL standard footballers with Haynes still being an excellent intercept mark.
If we lose Howard or Coff, he would be a ready made replacement. Would mean the end of Highmore I reckon though.

Yep, purely picks wise, fabulous. I’m not at all fussed on Highmore. Surprise he hasn’t been delisted yet tbh. Coffield would hurt, but end game and bigger picture …,Fair enough, however Haynes wants two. If we got say pick 13 and Sheil and say pick 15 and Haynes, I would be calling SoS an absolute genius.

He's saying that we would get 15 with Haynes as a salary dump. We aren't giving up any of those first rounders in these scenariosDefinition of selling our future.
A well used first round pick can give you a 15 year player.
You want to blow 2 on a 3 year player.

I think you’ve misunderstood. He means we get the picks and players for taking in the salary whacksDefinition of selling our future.

As i understood it yesterday (which was stavro#4 mail i think)Its all fine, except there needs to be something in it for the Saints.
As its reported , there isn't.
Its also a fact that you can't tie a trade to a free agent Movement.
One has to go before the other.
Possibility.
----------
Saints trade their current first round pick for pick 8 and Shiel .
THEN: Don's offer a free agency deal for Gresham, if it doesn't trigger the tier 2, we are screwed over. But not really , its still a decent deal to take Shiel off their books.
----------
Don's offer free agency deal for Gresham and pay him extra to trigger tier 2 . ( which will cost them every year of gresh's contract ).
Then the Dons trust StKilda to take Shiel of their hands for? The compensation pick? With 8 going back? Sorry if 8 isn't coming back i'm walking away right now.
-------------------
I can't see the handshake deal thing panning out.
Don't understand what you mean. How is it selling our future when we are literally gaining two first round draft picks? Did you misquote my post or something because I can't work out your argument.Definition of selling our future.

This is just referring to the fact that they need to offload Grundy.Just listening to SEN talk about Melbourne working on an "earth-shattering trade". Made me wonder as to what that would look like if the Saints were involved. Could we be working on a deal to send Steele over for Pick 5? I don't think it'll happen, I'm just putting 2 and 2 together as where theres smoke theres fire.
