This also represents a long standing problem with Freo. They have never been an attraction as a visiting club.
Haha yeah it's Freos fault some small Melbourne club can't pull enough fans to a game in Melbourne.

Lazy freo fans who CBF getting a 4 hour flight to watch their team

It's pretty incredible that in Round 1 the record for a single round was broken despite GWS and GC both having home games.

If you take those two games away, the other 7 games would still have beaten the total for every other round in history except R1 2017, totaling over 394k with an average of over 56k.

Don't know if it's possible to retrofit safe standing into Level M of the G and Marvel given the increased number of people (assume it would require wider aisles), however based off KP you get a 65% increase in capacity for standing bays compared to seated per square metre.

Hopefully the Shane Warne stand redevelopment takes note and incorporates it. I know overseas, some stadiums have implemented convertible bays that can switch between seated and standing by sliding the bucket chairs in and out. Soccer stadiums in europe have fold down seats which KP doesn't have.

Obviously the entire lower bowl (~50k seats) don't need to be standing, but if they converted the pockets (5k each = 20k total) could become standing (even if only for high demand games) would be something. Gets an extra 13k in the door for starters....

AFL season can't realistically be extended earlier than Labor Day weekend due to weather unless they commit to playing night games 7 days a week like they did during covid. The only way it gets extended is if they push into October which doesn't historically go above 30. With 19 and possible 20 teams coming into the AFL, you're looking at a 25 game season realistically (24 H+A plus gather round).
No chance of a 25 game season soon. AFLPA already kicking up about the suggestion of 24. But, you can’t have a 23 game season with 19 teams, and you can’t have Gather Round without a round of neutral games. So, I reckon it will go to 24 when Tas come in (or before) 11 home, 11 away and two neutral games - GR plus 10 games to be played in NSW/QLD.

My predictions for round 2 -

StK V Coll 52k
Adl V Gee 41k
Nth V Freo 15k
Haw V Mel 45k
Syd V Ess 38k
WB V GCS 10k (Interesting that the Dogs have elected to go for their first home game of the season in Ballarat).
Rich V Port 33k
WCE V GWS 40k

Dogs did not choose to have it first. AFL did.

Something that doesn’t bode well for crowds this week - besides from Sydney, every home team this week is coming off a loss from last week. This usually shaves off a portion of the crowd compared to coming off a win. Hopefully it’s early enough in the season that this doesn’t have a big impact, but it’s pretty unlucky to have happened to 8/9 teams.

St kilda vs Collingwood public sales look reasonably strong. The 2 for 1 GA deal that was offered will bring up the GA walk ups tonight. Depending on how full the afl reserve and mcc is it could be closer to 70k than what we thought previously.

A few clubs pushing crowds this week. Tigers have ‘kids free Sunday’ promo, although I’d say the Roos are probably also offering inducements to prop up its numbers this week🤔

AFL has all but the back 10 rows of level 4 sold.

If it wasn’t Thursday night the ticket sales would indicate a 70k+ crowd, but there’ll probably be more absentees by reserved seat holders than for other time slots, and the MCC is unlikely to be very full. Still should be a solid crowd, though.

Limited Release of Gather Round Tickets On Sale Today

The AFL is pleased to announce that a limited number of tickets to all nine sold out Gather Round matches will go on sale at 1.30pm AEDT today.

The numbers of tickets available to each of the matches varies and fans are encouraged to get in quickly as these will be snapped up fast.

In good news for fans wanting to take in a match at Adelaide Hills, additional temp seating has been added to the Mt Barker venue to increase capacity for the two matches scheduled there on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

As well as limited tickets at all nine games, there will also be tickets available to the Pepsi Collective across all matches.

Held at Adelaide Oval from Thursday April 4 until Sunday April 7, the Pepsi Collective will be the most sought-after ticket for social seekers over the age of 18 to experience the game like never before.

A host of premium food, beverage and entertainment will be available for eventgoers to enjoy with friends, all whilst witnessing the action on the field from one of Adelaide Oval’s best locations.

Set in Adelaide Oval’s Magarey Room, Pepsi Collective ticket holders will have access to lounges and bars overlooking Adelaide’s city skyline, plus a birds-eye view of the on-field action from the seating bays on Level 3, along with a purpose-built outdoor viewing deck thanks to Pepsi.

Tickets for the inaugural Gather Live concert have been officially exhausted, if fans with tickets can no longer attend the concert they can transfer their ticket to family/friends via the Ticketek app or alternatively, return their ticket for others to redeem.

If ticketholders can no longer attend Gather Round matches, they can transfer their ticket to family/friends via the Ticketek app or alternatively, return their ticket and receive a refund.

Nice crowd at the G. St.Kilda deserve to have at least 2 home games at the G every season.

Top of the Ponsford is very sparse, looks like the Pies fans already jumped off the Bandwagon.

Reckon itll be just under the Saints biggest ever home crowd. Still a great crowd for them.

Looks like St Kilda's biggest ever home crowd in the regular season. Biggest is 72,669.
It’s a different distribution of crowd, but it looks bigger than last week’s hawthorn Essendon which was about that number.

Having the bottom level full in the shane Warne stand makes such a difference as well compared to the normal 70% capacity reserved seats.

I’m going to guess 74,677
