Hotton, Hannaford, Berry - If we leave the draft without one of these three, it'll be disappointing to say the least.

I'd split pick 2 and aim for two small forwards and a tall forward with our first 3 selections. Richmond seem the best candidate for splitting pick 2.
That's a big call from you Souup. I know how much you rate FOS and co. What's the reason for the shift in thinking? Just too many opportunities in the teens to pass up?

This draft is getting deeper the more footy I watch. Really hope we can get a minimum of 5 players through the door through the ND, hopefully with 3/4 picks inside the top 30.

I think we have to find a way to get another teens pick. Whether it's using 22 and a F2 to move up, splitting 2 or using the F1 I'm not sure, but out 2nd rounder is going to get pushed back even further with Battle and Perryman compo being either 1st round or end of first. Isaac Cumming not sure if he's end of first or end of 2nd round either.
So we could end up with pick 24/25 as our 2nd rounder. If we want Berry/Hannaford/Shanahan then we have to move up.

For anyone who is keen on trading our F1. Best to watch the u17 futures game to get an idea on what you might be missing out on. Some names that are high on my list include: Louis Emmett, Archie Ludowyke, Fred Rodrieguez, Dyson Sharp, Felix Kneipp, Cooper Duff-Tyrtler, Riley Onley and Tarion Ah-Mu.

Looking likely that next year is shaping up as a bumper draft class too.

Just a lazy 20% tied to Academies and 1 father son.

Another uncompromised draft coming up.

Why not GC with 6 and 12? Then they use 2 to trade with Richmond? I dont see why we have to wait until Richmond scoop up the picks.

That said id be happy with Draper at 2.

Pressure is the name of the game and small forwards are more valuable than ever. The problem for us is we basically have none while the rest of the AFL caught on to their importance 2-3 years ago. It's important what you do with the ball obviously and it's often the main focus, but it's amazing how much easier it is to stay in games if what you do without the ball is at a high level. I felt this way last year and was massive on Watson, but my gauge on how important small forwards are has only grown watching finals football across different levels.

For example, Werribee won the VFL Grand Final on the weekend not due to experience or leadership (something like 14/23 players were <25yo, most of the 14 closer to 20yo than 25yo) or being immensely more talented than other teams (they likely won't have a single player drafted this year and were without their best 3 from last year on the weekend in Mannagh, Clohesy and Declase), but because their pressure across the ground, and especially up forward, was immense. Banch, Grintell, Young, Hicks, Dahlhaus and Riding - 6 genuine small forwards who pressure like their lives depend on it when the ball hits the deck.

If we end up with picks ~6+10 for pick 2 I'd spend both picks on 2/3 of Hotton, Hannaford and/or Berry and be absolutely over the moon with that result. As highly as I rate Hotton we really need any small forward selections to land, so I'd lean towards Hannaford + Berry.

Happy to trade with anyone provided the 2 selections they send allow us to select 2 of the 3 I mentioned

Makes the whole media / clubs / moron opposing fans meltdowns opposing any compensation ( which we have never been given appropriately) to be given to us ( and denied due to such outrage ) now look like an absolute f/$*$&-& joke …..as it was then …
What was the media tag …oh yeah to preserve the integrity of the draft..😂😂😂😂

We've had 5 priority picks the last 3 years 🙄:
. ***
. Sheezel
. Wardlaw
. McKercher
. Duursma

We should be happy.

Yeah me too, but the trade/free agency period is going to be mighty interesting with who comes to our club, then I'm guessing that our final delisting's will be made official, that then will determine how many picks we have in the national draft.

Probably the year to do it, if there was one. Think this is our best bet - If we were to split, go something like this!

58 > Darling + 59

6: FOS/Armstrong
12: Lalor/Smillie/Langford
20:Shanahan/Hannerford/ Hotton/Berry
40: Gerryn/Sims
59: Alger/Urquhart
2025 F3 > J.Konstanty
64 > L.Parker
F4 > R.Garcia
R1 Someone Fast and Tall
R2 Someone Fast in Midfield
R3. R. Stevens

Keep F1 & F2

Way of the world currently, Micky... certainty, need and want mixed together in a Koolaid!
Lol pick 40 Gerreyn?? 😂 HAHA

Better to seek out certainty in a chaotic world by assuming ITK status on a footy forum rather than pushing flat earth, fake Moon landing, election fraud, or anti vaxx agendas.

Some proof is handy, mind. Don't disagree with all your points, happen to agree re: flat earth! The rest I'm still unsure about in today's age. I'm not willing to 100% believe we made it to the moon given we still don't go there regularly. The election was probably fair, but who knows? I wouldn't put much past these Democrats (despite my Mum being a dyed in the Wool Democrat who never gave up US Citizenship and voting by mail rights until her death). Anti Vax? I've been vaxxed 4-5x I think, as I got out of here during the Pandemic and worked for an Aussie company whilst living in another Sphere. I had to.

I also had Stage 4 Bowel Cancer and another incident where I was knocked unconscious for 47 days and survived, everything in tact and brain still functioning almost as well as ever, since being Vaxxed. So call me an outlier and lucky and experienced, in that order.

Well we can dream DY. Probably won't make it - so we jump to the right, which represents next best option.

I suspect you don't know what a priority pick is.

None of the North players you listed were priority picks.
The closest is Duursma, who was acquired as a compo pick for Mackay (pick 3 pushed out to 4).
All the others were from finishing way down on the ladder (and 1 of Wardlaw/Sheezel from a pick trade involving JHF).

Sydney, GC, GWS and to a lesser extent Brisbane have been gifted star draftees on the cheap thanks to the AFL's desire to artificially maneuver/keep the non-football states at the top end of the ladder.

The one bit of priority you did get, was the 2 second rounders that you were compelled to trade away (Fisher and Stephens, I think).

Sorry for the intrusion, but this is my hobby horse. I hate that the game has been stuffed by the AFL's draft tampering (and de-regulation of player movement). It sucks and is getting worse. The fact that so many idiots (including a bunch on our Hawks board) were up in arms about the pissy compo North got, is depressing. People are genuinely stupid.

I dunno, im no draft guru. I just really like what I see. Been looking at the drafts since we’ve been shit but never really had a huge interest in it before that. Just the top picks. This Gerreyn kid is something else.

All the rage is small forwards, but if you have a 200cm brick shit house in that 50 with vice like hands and can kick the leather off it with accuracy.. thats an impressive unit.

Compensation pick is not a priority pick. We have Logue, Fisher and Dylan Stephens. Hawthorn got checks notes … 3 ****ing flags.

I think you'll find Hojuman was suggesting our top picks were earnt the hard way, and our "priority picks", in comparison to years past when #1 was dished out, don't really figure in the same way

I'm pretty sure Hojuman is a little smarter than that. Pretty much on the money there i think Merlin.

Early crow. Willem top 3
Sharp, Duursma, ludowyke top 3

Not including uwland who is Gc academy and will go early

Ollie Greeves and jack dalton I have after that top grouping

This is the calibre of player our future first will likely be

Hoj is taking the piss.

He knows exactly what our draft compo was. Thanks for being fair about it tho. Good one.

It was very much dripping in sarcasm with the face with rolling eyes emoji in the post, referencing how opposition supporters think we were given these players as assistance. The clickbait headlines are mostly to blame.
