2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Forward line of the following is so much fun:

HFF Ryan Marshall Owens

FF Higgins King Sharman

Yes there is no forward pressure, and obviously players like Hall, Phillipou, Steele, Wilson etc will also play large chunks in there. But it is still a really, really fun forward line
Higgins has improved a lot in the forward pressure side of things

Great news on Wilkie. Not sold on a further 3 year extension so I hope we have been sensible in that regard given his limited athleticism at his physical peak let alone north of 32 year of age.

there is nothing official about a 3 year extension that i can see. nor can i see an increased wage to 1.2 mil

There's peer reviewed studies that have been released into certain forms of doping and how they produce extraordinary results later in one's career

The dead give away is guys who are still playing at a very high level well past a normal retirement age.

Remind me again what club attracted serious ASADA attention that now how was a bunch of a guys performing very well who are older than 30?

Whataboutism. We aren't public figures. I have never referred to a gay womanin such derogatory terms as ' she has her licker licence'. So homophobic it is scarcely believable
I have never publicly outed a public figure without her approval and before she had come out to her family.
This might be the way others talk about gay people, maybe it is cool for gen y to speak like that, but the lack.of respect and outright hostility toward this woman is beyond reproachful.
But you do what you do if it fulfils a need.
Compared to everyone else I've ever met, you sound like the most gentlemanly fella with very firm principles.

I therefore have no issue with you casting stones.

Oh man I can’t wait to see the Bont trade thread when he requests a trade to us

Fair to say, THE most exciting post in this entire thread to date.
And there’ve been a few.

The board thanks you for all the info you throw our way.
Keep it up…please 😍
I hope no one gets too upset, but I don't look at it with excitement.

He only said we have only just started, but gave no follow-up or at least a hint as to what he is referencing to.

Having said that, I hope like we hell, it turns out something too get excited about.

Us boomers have been leading the way for you following, mainly more disappointing, generation's, for all.of your miserable lives.
Usually up the garden path, but leading none the less.
My favourite is we have led you into a climate catastrophe while you lot quibble about how many genders there are 🤣🤣

Phew!

Let's recap:

  • Spent years tuning salary cap for a push on FA
  • Got TDK to nominate us as FA, under pressure from Carlton, no cost bar salary after a few years of groundwork
  • Got JSOS to nominate us as FA, under pressure from Carlton & WB, no cost bar salary after a month of groundwork
  • Got Liam Ryan to nominate us.
  • Got Lefind.ek Aleer to nominate us.
  • In the final 2 for Flanders nomination
  • Resigned MVP Nas (B&F winner) under serious pressure from Adelaide & PA
  • Resigned Windhager (5th in B&F) under serious pressure from Melb & NM
  • Resigned Wilkie (2023 AA, B&F winner 2024, 2nd place 2025) under semi-serious pressure from WB
Think I've missed something, but bear in mind trade period hasn't started yet!

Take a bow SOS and Gubby, I was wrong and I couldn't be happier.

Yes, re Wilkie, there is nothing official that he he resigned / extended his contract that i can find

They are making a doco that they started filming when Nas resigned. It’ll be released round one next year. That’s why they are hoping to play Collingwood at the MCG first Sunday night to release it.

i thought the doco was for the whole year?

WCE are one eighteenth of the league, it should not be up to them. This is the reason the commission was set up.in the first place.
Victorians make up 65% of all draftees, but the growth corridors of Melbourne are being ignored. Migrants who have had no contact with AFL are being ignored, so guess what, they are going to sport they know.
Local teams and comps are folding, Geoff Walsh did a complete review of the situation complete with a list of recommendations. This was handed to Laura Kane who stuck it in a drawer and not one recommendation has been acted upon.
They have spent upwards of 500 million in the non footy states, but are ignoring the traditional football states. They are not stupid, this has to be deliberate. And I am unsure of the reason why.

it all seems very very strange

I think going after a contracted player is being proactive. He was never going to leave but was worth a shot.
Its like posting a DM message on a famous model's social media account

"Ah its worth a crack"

No its not.

Worth a crack would have been offering the club something to make losing their best defender and elite AA player to a direct rival thinkable.

This was just Bevo offering a truckload of money to a contract tied player. How did they think it would end?

Your club is a clown show

EDIT: ahhhh, you mean the club had to pursue this obvious lost cause to fool the bulldogs fans into thinking the club was being proactive. "Western" is the George Costanza of AFL clubs!
