Tail end of the season and too many important contracts not done.

If we've offered unders to the likes of Windy, while throwing 1.7 at a ruckman, it will have an effect on the psyche of players. It's human nature to want to feel valued, particularly when you're giving 100% in a side that's losing most games.

The longer it goes on, the more the risk of losing players.

FFS just get it done.
Yeah from the outside looking in it’s pretty shambolic at this point. Hopefully things are being sorted behind the scenes but things are starting to feel really ominous

This information is surprising and possibly a bit concerning. We've been trying to land a big fish for what seems like an eternity, yet we're the hardest (translation - the most painful) to deal with.
I wouldn't look into that too much, that whole series of articles about the player managers has been Saints Bashing Central.

In the "Clubs player want to play for" from Monday, our premiership window score was given 3 points - worst in the AFL, 1 behind WC, 2 behind powerhouses North Melb, Richmond and Essendon. And our "Culture" was rated behind culture kings such as Carlton, Melbourne and the Bombers.

I wonder if the NAS stuff is holding up all the other negotiations? The longer it goes on the more I believe NAS has asked for a trade and the clubs are desparately trying to work a deal. If NAS does leave it would change things considerably cap and list wise.

The player managers said we (SOS) are the hardest club to deal with, but I guess in a financial sense it means we are not push overs. The other side of things is most players know their financial worth, so you would expect our club should be planned for what they ask.

5 out of 17 managers said that wasn’t it? Apparently. Assume they didn’t name them?

And I’m sure all the managers are the sweetest, most obliging pussycats you could ever meet 🙄

I don’t want pushovers managing our list.

It’s just another Saints bashing article no doubt.

It makes no sense to me have not locked down the likes of Windy and Hall, regardless of what Nas is doing.

In the case of Hall in particular, his price would have increased, so essentially the delay could have bitten us on the arse somewhat, even if we sign him.

I think a balance needs to be struck between not being pushovers and identifying the players to take us forward, and showing them some faith. Particularly when we're throwing huge contracts at players outside the club.

But what if the managers are playing 'funny buggers' with St Kilda? And let's be honest, why wouldn't they?

It's all over the shop, the article refers to as in different places as the "St Kilda has been named as the most difficult club to deal with by player managers surveyed", "Saints the hardest club to do business with" and "St Kilda worst team to deal with".

Which begs the question - what was the actual question? Being the hardest to deal with is not necessarily the most difficult, nor the worst. In fact being hard to deal with could be a good thing depending on what exactly makes us "hard", a difficulty listed in negotiations some clubs are guilty of is “attempts for clubs to deal directly with a player”.

Anyone who wants to report on such data or take it at face value needs to watch this:

Problem is that every manager wants our talent and no manager wants to give their talent to us.

It just take, take, take.

Proud the club is standing up.

Adelaide didn’t ‘jump the gun with a lucrative offer’

Ross and the club have encouraged Nas to speak with the SA clubs. There is no offer we will not beat from a financial standpoint, we just can’t offer him a chance at playing at home. Nas will resign, but irrespective of the length of the deal we all know that at some point he will return to Adelaide to play.

Agreed on all points posted.

So we encourage him to talk to the clubs that will further influence his want to go home?

And if the club is so resigned to losing him then they've lost already.

The club should be doing its hardest to convince any player, not just Nas that this is the place to be. Regardless of home state.

If you have a player who has a pull to go home you don’t sit there and hold a gun to his head because the first chance he gets, he’s going to run. If nas is considering playing in SA, he’s going to talk to them with or without our encouragement.

We’ve treated Nas like an adult, the actions of Ross, the coaches and the club each and every day are the selling point as to why he and our other out of contract players will stay.

The club are confident in their actions, and that they’ve left no stone unturned. Back it in, and IF he or another leaves, understand it’s because that’s what they want.

The best way to retain someone for the longterm is to encourage them to do what they need to do to in the short term - so that they are informed when making their decision.

He is 22. He isn’t supposed to have his entire life figured out today. His needs will change as his life does.

You treat him like a child and make him sign, he will just run away in 2 years time and you’ll have no hope of keeping him during his peak.

Agreed
Will be an Average AFL footballer he just reminds me so much of Darcy Parish the way he plays

But without the high production. He looks like a very vanilla player to me. I know he's young and all that but I'm not seeing it yet.

Those clubs are gonna talk to him regardless of what we might say.

Its modern sport, the player has all the power, were much better off telling him to chat to them and being open and transparent, its not like we dont know hes from SA.

We would be trying to convince him to stay and offering money and terms he wants. Hes our best player.

I do worry a bit about the others (Windy, Hall etc). I assume there is a hope that Nas resigns and we can finalise and anounce all of them but if were holding those up because of Nas and TDK... Thats a terrible look.

Disagree. He has played some really good games he just needs more time in the guts. Had some injury issue this year as well

I've seemingly only see his very average games. He looks quite bland. It's one time we arsed not getting the academy kid. We would have missed Phillipou. I reckon Phillipou ends up a much higher level player.

I would be pretty chuffed having Cmac on one forward flank and Hall on the other for the next 8 years.

So what is it?

They know he either goes home now or in 2 years time?

You can let people talk to however they want, without encouraging them to do it.
See the difference?

I'm hoping these deals have been done, along with Keeler's, but they're holding off announcements until Nas is sorted.

Because any press conference, media release or socials post is going to be bombarded with "what about Nas?"

For the sake of SOS's ongoing employment, we cant have a group of talented youngsters walk out together.
