Autopsy 2025 Preliminary Final: Hawks get rolled

Watson was the least of our worries last night. We won the hitouts 52-39 yet Geelong won the Centre clearances 20-5 and total clearances 50-33. Hard for our small forwards to impractical when we have only 40 inside 50s to Geelong 66

We actually did ok to lead for as long as we did while getting smashed at centre bounce and inside 50s. To still take more inside 50 marks with those numbers is good.

Unfortunately they’re just too good for us it’s really nothing else

They really have a great balance of big bodied tough mids farmland, cotton on franchises, and speed AFL house in their pocket. Weve got to build the team to beat the cats . Just get Trac and Merrit . Get it done.

Lots of improvement required from lots of players , particularly CJ . finals have exposed his decision making and composure.

Overall, the year has been a pass, but weve got to go again and shoot for top 4
fixed.

Yeah I'm going to be that guy. I don't care, I'm just past pretending to be that supporter who is impartial and level headed.

We weren't good enough and our midfield got badly exposed.

But for f**k sake:
  • I told my mates before the game that the umps would cuck us and lo and behold - every god damn call went the maggot's way.
  • Tackling from our players went with ZERO f**king reward. Danger either somehow got a free kick out of it or he was just allowed to drop the ball for another Geelong maggot to pick up and drop it until they eventually can kick it forward. Its a disgrace. An absolute f**king disgrace.
  • But THEN, when OUR players drop the footy - then the w**ker umpires decide to call holding the ball.
  • Legal marks that were taken inside 50 were called as free kicks against us.
  • Our players were taken high - NOTHING.
  • Danger loses the ball illegally and its either not called, counted as a legal disposal OR the most frequent outcome - the umpires manufacture a free kick for him. Yeah no sh*t anybody could look like a world beater if they are protected to kingdom come like that on the footy field.
  • Ward (who was poor) was held ALL game as was Battle to stop him from defending Cameron - NOTHING. How are we supposed to win clearances or defend with only one god damn arm??
F**k the Cats, honestly f**k em. No idea how you can live with yourself supporting a team like that where they get away with everything ON and OFF the field.
BigFooty, fix the ads to ensure they don’t knock out peoples post while writing … SERIOUSLY!!

Some was ordinary but I actually think we need to get better in some areas. They are elite at grappling without giving frees away. Always got an arm but not enough for a free to get paid. Newcombe was held at contest allllll night. Around the hip and grab an arm at the same time on the side the umpires not facing, leg between Newc direct running path. Etc.

They showed us the rules, time to start playing a bit more like that and trying to get away with it because it’s the diff between losing centre bounce by 15 and maybe only 6

- Oh and maybe flail around a bit more Jai, show you’re getting held, fall over on accident every now and then

I'll take any positive right now - I do feel good for Will Day. Watching his Hawks go to a GF without him would have been tough.

Anyone wants to know how close the Hawks are re-watch the first quarter against Adelaide in R22 or whatever it was. Add one other gun midfield and we are there.
Trying to explain to numpties on the main board who think it's only 1 player wouldn't have made a difference and than you point to examples of him dominating and the flow on effect it has and they still don't get it some of them.

Settle down mate. He has to learn to play a team game or he is destined to underachieve. He and some of OUR team need to stop looking for individual recognition and play the team game. Pies and Cats lead the way in that regard. Putting him in the guts was laughable.
Clearly haven't watched many games of football, have you? Let alone Hawks ones, he's been dynamic in there several games in spurts.

Yeah, jog on, not interested in the views of someone who "follows" either of ithe Plastic Franchise Nepo Babies

Come back when you've actually won anything of significance

BTW - who did you "follow" before the giants?

if 7 of those frees are paid, two things happen, a) the clearance count is 12-13 and b) it doesn't happen because they STOP F**KING DOING IT. What happened against Adelaide is they tried it on with Newcombe in the first bounce and the umpire saw it and paid the free. Clearance goes our way and we scored. They didn't try it again. Same thing with RO'B interfering with Meek for the first quarter and a half, umpire sees one on the half forward flank, pays the free and he doesn't do it again, Meek dominates thereafter.

Geelong never learn that lesson because the blind-eye afforded them is borderline insane.

I hope it’s ok to impost on here but I’ve been very impressed with how you guys have been playing for the last few years

I know last night wasn’t the result you wanted but you guys will win a flag in the next few years

Great club with a great culture as much as there is a rivalry you can’t help but be impressed with you guys

Mitchell needs to grow and evolve as a coach, my only worry is he’s always been seen as a stubborn person and he really needs to see the error of his ways with some of his selections and playing favourites with players who objectively do not deserve selection and too harsh on others.
And… don’t select players who are injured

I don’t think it happened last night, but did happen during the year

Listening to the SEN call at the ground, terminal Hawk hater Gerard Healy was fixated on Sicily supposedly getting away with stuff, and the Hawks getting away with murder.

Expect the anti-Hawthorn media to not acknowledge the biased umpiring at all.

1) We were fumbly. Geelong were clean. Would love to see how the past 2 weeks Hawthorn handle them, but not to be. They didn't come.
2) Umps were horrible, most of them shouldn't get the GF game.
3) Not sure in the 2nd half with so many of the players lining up out of position, if we were covering lots of players that were tired or soreband had to be parked somewhere, or Sam was just throwing the magnets around to get something? If it was by necessity that's unfortunate, but if not, then not Sam's best game either.

So frustrating that they always seemed to get the handball out when being tackled, quite a late handball at times...
They constantly tap it on, move it on, flick it out and they always have 3 or 4 on 1 and they are ALWAYS running hard forward. It is like they just know its going forward and not turning over.

We have Ginnivan get smothered about 15 times and they barely get the moving ball intercepted.

Simple reality… hawthorn was gassed last night. Two away, high pressure finals, up against a rested Geelong. Smashed in clearances, and scores from stoppages. We need two a grade mids to compliment day and nuke. Ward, Nash, Mackenzie if he comes on as 2nd rotations. Simple

That's not relevant to what I was pointing out. Despite our midfield inadequacy, we typically ran close to good teams all year. An ugly win was possible last night, but was never on the table courtesy of those incompetent muppets in green..

Also, that's media rubbish about needing 100 a grade mids in addition to Day. We need one or two, the second being a contingency for the not unlikely scenario that Day doesn't return to consistent match play.
