If either or both of Trembath and Duursma play their way past Darling then fantastic but he won’t make it easy on them. It would be good to have genuine competition and real depth so here is hoping the young guys turn up and turn it on next season.
totally agree with this, as I mention regularly... depth and competition are things we havent had in years. It should be hard to pick a best 18 or 23, there will always be 10 or so locks but then the rest it should be hard and often the variances are subjective and down to structure or player preference. You need a solid 30 that are interchangeable and have no impact to the overall quality of the selected team for that day.... unfort there will always be injuries, form slumps and suspensions. You need to cover them all with limited blips

so i think its Duurs or Bull, or Trembath or Darling so for once a good place to be

Yeah sorry, my point was clear to me but probably not to anyone else.

I just meant that it’s kind of silly to be happy our players aren’t being exposed to the risk of injury in some meaningless state of origin game when they will all be playing an even more meaningless “community series” game.
If they are getting a bit of practice with a new defensive system in that community game then it isn't meaningless.

Community series at least gives the club a chance to prepare for the season. Trialling players in positions. Practising the game plan. Controlling minutes of the players against real opposition. It's not more meaningless.
Agree. Community series might not be "real" footy but it is a whole game where our team gets to play their gameplan and manage player minutes as they choose. I'd much rather at this stage our team is getting as much time as possible as a group.

Exactly. We need to learn how to put a team effort in. We have (IMO) plenty of good and a few great individual players. We need them to learn how to harness that as a team with some role players and deliver more than the sum of parts. I have no real concerns that Harry Sheezel or Paul Curtis or whoever would be able to go into a State level game and blitz it.

Daniel will be playing back arse cheek.
Its a genuine concern that we’ll be second to the contest. You cant play modern footy without players cutting off zones. Opposition will just punch the ball straight through the middle of the ground. You need to be able to push the opposition wide. You cant push them wide with a 1v1 defensive structure.

**** yeah, footy’s back!

From HUN today - has this been mentioned here?

River Stevens was sent to hospital after a knock to the ribs. Stevens, who is yet to debut, suffered a broken rib and internal bleeding after a big contest.
He was back at training on Monday, participating in light training at Arden Street.

Was there today. It’s hard to take to much from the drills.

Where i was sitting they like to use Spargo to distribute the ball. On afew drills he was being used that way.

Darling is the absolute role model of how to train and keep your body. His repeat running puts alot to shame.

Urqhart not doing a lot wrong for me. I expect him to be a physical beast and think he will achieve that.

Dawson concerns me.

Had some great moments but Kerch needs to be better by foot. He is a lot better then he has been showing.

FOS a standout.
