Knock to the achilles. If he was critical they probably wouldn't have bothered to tell us that, so probably out?

Fellow big man Matthew Leuenberger took a knock to the leg against the Crows and will be monitored over the next few days.

“’Leuey’ just got a kick on his achilles, again he’s got a background with that injury in his past, particularly in his time at Brisbane,” Crow said.

“We’re going to wait for that to settle down. He’s a chance to train tomorrow but he’ll need to keep showing improvement day after day. We’ll get a better feel for where he’s at later in the week.”

Sounds more sinister considering the history there. I thought he looked massively proppy in the rooms.
Could be that too. You would expect them to downplay it most of the time unless they're trying to cover for something else (i.e. an older player might be 'injured' when they really are just exhausted).

Restricted program for the beginning of pre-season due to surgery to repair his rotator cuff.
Matthew Leuenberger will undergo shoulder surgery and will be on a restricted program when he begins the pre-season.

“He’ll have his rotator cuff repaired … that’ll affect him in terms of contact pre-Christmas but he’ll be into his running and other parts of his rehab before that,” Crow said.

I wonder if Leuy will still be happy been #2 ruckman or will want to move where he might get the chance to be #1 ? FWIW, I hope stays.

Contact progressions as part of his recovery from the operation to repair his rotator cuff.

Ruckman Matthew Leuenberger missed parts of last season due to a recurring shoulder injury but is back into training with the main group.

“He had a shoulder operation, he has just come up to four months post-surgery and is working on his contact progressions and is back into competitive training drills, and now onto some match play,” Crow said.

He is a gentle giant so I’m a little shocked, would like to see the incident myself
It's the first one on this video: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-04-30/big-don-banned-for-gawn-whack-cat-cleared

It doesn't look great but the weird bit is Leuey going over to him after the hit and appearing to check if Gawn was okay. A strange thing to do if the act was malicious. I wonder if he meant to give him a shove or push on the shoulder and it slipped high or something.

As you say, Leuey's a gentle giant; he'd be one of the last of our side I could imagine doing something like that.

Yeah looked like he went to give him a shove and it went a bit wrong. No issue with the 1 week, but you can almost guarantee that they are going to let stuff worse than that go throughout the season.
I was wondering why Gawn was down in the middle of the ground, especially because the only bloke who went over to him was Luey and there was no stoppage of play.

I'm a Luey fan but thought 3 minutes into the game he didn't look fit enough. Big credits for rest of game.
As for being reported, I watched the game with my Dees supporting son and the only thing reportable was how similar it was to the game last year.

Bump.

Thought he played a really nice game today. But the most impressive aspect of the afternoon for Mathew was his post game interview.
So impressive. All he really wanted to talk about was Sam Draper and his development.
