AFL Player 27: Mason Redman šŸ• - Goes whack

There is a lot of ambivalence here about losing a player who ranks in the top 3 to 5 on our list for overall quality, week to week impact and the difficulty in replacing him.

He's one of the best half backs in the league and we have no other running half back we trust on the list.

Doesn't mean you pay stupid overs, good clubs dont do it.

I'm all for giving Redman a serious contract but if Adelaide have offered him the rumored 750k - 800k over 6 years, then that's something you walk away from. it's up to Redman what he wants, if he doesn't see success at Essendon and wants Money instead. He is better off going.

We have a tonne of A grade kids who will be coming off contracts in the next couple of years who would expect stupid deals also. Martin, Hobbs, Perkins etc etc.

As for Trust...........Redman is good, but he also does some incredibly dumb stuff that costs us goals.

There's no way they offered him that unless it's including ASAs, incentives, and a CBA increase.

If they're offering him that as base salary then they're not a well run club and he should be the one walking away šŸ˜

They haven't . Player manager I had a conversation with (not Redmans) believed it is more in the $650k to $700k range.

The gap between his best and worst is still massive. And I'm pretty ambivalent to HBFers.

650k over 6 is what i would be offering.

Thats what Carlton overpaid for Saad, and i rate Redman ahead of Saad.

And if we aren’t getting McKay?
We probably match the bid by the crows and force a trade. Then take mckay as a FA. We’d probably score a pick around 10 for reddogg

That’s the point though if we are planning to match, we have to actually think he’s worth that contract, because you know he can turn around and actually accept it. If that’s the case and we want to match any offer, why aren’t we offering him what Adelaide are right now.

How do you know we’re not?

Also, from everything I’ve seen the crows aren’t making an offer that would blow ours out of the water. So I think we’ll be on safe ground matching.

I’d trust that the club has put a fair contract in front of Redman, both cash and time. 5-6 years at 650k is more than reasonable and that’s where I hope we have offered. Anything more than that not interested.

if that doesn’t suit him and he isn’t buying into the club because he wants to be here cut him loose. And get what we can for him. If that’s a tactical match to force a trade so so be it

we are not going to get anywhere paying overs for players and as good as Redman can be, he can also be a liability at times. We have way to many kids who will need to re signed over the next few years as well as other trade targets.

Of course im paying him, ive said multiple times. The bolded is seriously surprising

why is it surprising?

we have one of the youngest lists in the afl, not surprising at all that we have a lot of head room, what we do need to be aware of that in the future we need to make room for martin, Hobbs, Perkins etc that will demand higher salaries in the future.

2023 has shown essendon has a shit load of youth talent from 20 - 25, and other clubs will come for them

if we over pay on blokes like Redman now it will hurt us later.

50-100k to keep redman is not going to hurt us. They’ll likely move a lot of his contract into the next couple of seasons anyway. Like they’d be doing with merrett. We have so much space, it really isn’t going to be an issue.

sure but then what stops you doing that across a team them you all of a sudden have 500k tide Up in over payments.

what if we need to pay and extra 50-100k to keep parish also? Do we do that?

what about Ridley? Mic Martin? Perkins? Hobbs?

thats what gets you into trouble.

I probably sound like an alarmist but I don’t see Redman as that player you need to overpay. For as good as he can be. He does some very dumb things too
