Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
There is a lot of ambivalence here about losing a player who ranks in the top 3 to 5 on our list for overall quality, week to week impact and the difficulty in replacing him.
He's one of the best half backs in the league and we have no other running half back we trust on the list.
There's no way they offered him that unless it's including ASAs, incentives, and a CBA increase.Doesn't mean you pay stupid overs, good clubs dont do it.
I'm all for giving Redman a serious contract but if Adelaide have offered him the rumored 750k - 800k over 6 years, then that's something you walk away from. it's up to Redman what he wants, if he doesn't see success at Essendon and wants Money instead. He is better off going.
We have a tonne of A grade kids who will be coming off contracts in the next couple of years who would expect stupid deals also. Martin, Hobbs, Perkins etc etc.
As for Trust...........Redman is good, but he also does some incredibly dumb stuff that costs us goals.

They haven't . Player manager I had a conversation with (not Redmans) believed it is more in the $650k to $700k range.Doesn't mean you pay stupid overs, good clubs dont do it.

The gap between his best and worst is still massive. And I'm pretty ambivalent to HBFers. There is a lot of ambivalence here about losing a player who ranks in the top 3 to 5 on our list for overall quality, week to week impact and the difficulty in replacing him.

Wasnāt saad 4 years650k over 6 is what i would be offering.
Thats what Carlton overpaid for Saad, and i rate Redman ahead of Saad.
Wasnāt saad 4 years
If we are getting mckay, nothingWhat level compo would we get?
And if we arenāt getting McKay?If we are getting mckay, nothing
Probably band 2And if we arenāt getting McKay?
We probably match the bid by the crows and force a trade. Then take mckay as a FA. Weād probably score a pick around 10 for reddoggAnd if we arenāt getting McKay?
Thatās the point though if we are planning to match, we have to actually think heās worth that contract, because you know he can turn around and actually accept it. If thatās the case and we want to match any offer, why arenāt we offering him what Adelaide are right now.We probably match the bid by the crows and force a trade. Then take mckay as a FA. How do you know weāre not?Thatās the point though if we are planning to match, we have to actually think heās worth that contract, because you know he can turn around and actually accept it. If thatās the case and we want to match any offer, why arenāt we offering him what Adelaide are right now.
I think heās gone regardless imoHow do you know weāre not?
Also, from everything Iāve seen the crows arenāt making an offer that would blow ours out of the water. So I think weāll be on safe ground matching.
I'm giving it a fortnight before I get really nervousI think heās gone regardless imo
Getting to the point where Iāll be very surprised if he stays.
I was giving it a fortnight a fortnight a goI'm giving it a fortnight before I get really nervous

August is usually my "okay he's gone" pointI was giving it a fortnight a fortnight a go![]()
Yeh itās extremely rare for restricted free agents who are not signed by r18-19 to then turn around and stay.August is usually my "okay he's gone" point
Of course im paying him, ive said multiple times. The bolded is seriously surprising
50-100k to keep redman is not going to hurt us. Theyāll likely move a lot of his contract into the next couple of seasons anyway. Like theyād be doing with merrett. We have so much space, it really isnāt going to be an issue.why is it surprising?
we have one of the youngest lists in the afl, not surprising at all that we have a lot of head room, what we do need to be aware of that in the future we need to make room for martin, Hobbs, Perkins etc that will demand higher salaries in the future.
2023 has shown essendon has a snit load of youth talent, and other clubs will come for them
if we over pay on blokes like Redman now it will hurt us later.
