A dedicated VFL review thread - thoughts?

I've been thinking for awhile now that it would be great to get a dedicated VFL review thread up and running.

I think sometimes the reviews can get lost in the 2nds match discussion thread and because it isn't organised sometimes the reviews aren't forthcoming.

What do people think of this idea?? Is it worth getting up and running??

If someone is interested in committing to this for the rest the season let me know.

Perhaps more realistically we can look at rotating it between a group of posters.

We would need to cover the following games:

14 Sun 25th Jul > Collingwood v Casey Scorpions (H) > Vic Park, 2.00pm
15 Sat 31 Jul > Port Melbourne v Collingwood (A) > TEAC Oval, 2.00pm
16 Sat 7 Aug > Bendigo v Collingwood (A) > Windy Hill, 2.00pm
17 Sat 14 Aug > Collingwood v Box Hill Hawks (H) > Vic Park, 2.00pm
18 Sat 21 Aug > Collingwood v Gold Coast > Vic Park, 1.00pm

Is anyone interested in putting their hands up to commit to doing the reviews in any of these games??

Definitely. Should be a 'dumping grounds' of sorts, as it doesn't seem anyone gets out to the VFL games every single week so I imagine it'd be a different person writing a report each week. Perhaps if you know you'll be at a VFL match this weekend you can declare it in the review thread so that we have one dedicated review as opposed to 4 seperate people writing 4 different reviews.

Also: Matty should go to the VFL games every weekend

We should head make a pledge to head out to Windy Hill in numbers in a couple of weeks as we belt their reserves side by 10 goals plus with our young talent looking far superior, whilst Essendon reach their lowest ebb.

TBH I'd prefer 4 reviews as everyone see's it differently and some have favorites/relatives/mates who play for the club.

The more reviews the more you can split the difference and get a common form line.

Sorry Dave I would be extremely confident. At the moment our reserves side would probably beat Essendon. Blokes like J-Mac, Fraser, Medhurst, Anthony and co would be first picked.

That's not to mention Goldsack and whoever makes way for Cloke, two more guys that would be in that Essendon side.

As long as they are well thought out and written, as opposed to 4 half-arsed ones which are heavily bias.

I made this suggestion a year or 2 ago but the Buddy Board should be changed to a board focussed on the VFL team & the Future Magpie Watch thread. The buddy board in the main is sadly lacking in regular updates (apologies to the redular half dozen who do provide regular updates).

Yeah they're published on the Collingwood site. But I always prefer posters opinions as they're more impartial as a rule.

The other thing I like about the idea is if we make it more official I think there might be a greater effort to make them as detailed and good as possible, perhaps more than they already do. And I don't mean to say people don't already put in a good effort just they might gear up for them ala Katherine Amatuers effort with the player review.

Mattys can't give a guarantee he'll be able to do them as he doesn't know which games he'll attend until closer to the match. A problem we may well have with other potential reviewers.

I see your concern here, the buddy board could be better. Theres a few great posters that keep it ticking over.

I worry however if we put the VFL stuff as a sub board it would get lost to a lot of posters. Just as a rule sub boards aren't as visible and hence get less attention. I think the VFL reviews should really be front and centre on the front page of the Collingwood board where they would get maximum exposure.
