Sensational work JA27, like how you arranged it from both directions.

Bit late for lots of detail in response, and trying to put bias aside, but reckon we've done alright there overall.

Really hoping Cam Wood comes through this year, as that's one that is looking a little dusty at the moment.

Some of it is a bit misleading like we gained witts in a trade... we had witts anyway and essentially the pick was useless because we had one afterwards we could use for memory.

Good effort though

IMO it wasn't so much our trading that was bad, it was our drafting. It really was until Hine joined us that things turned around in that area. The only high draft picks I can recall that we got right were Tarrant and Didak.
That is spot on mate, our drafting was s---house before hine but a much more
proffesional approach these days infact just like most things about the club these days not much is left to chance.:thumbsu:

Agree Ipswich there is much more to it than drafting, the whole process from raw recruit to regular member of the AFL squad is much better handled now with a professional approach to keeping across every facet of the recruits health and happiness is covered.

Lets not forget we also traded IN a first round pick in 2006 that yield us a premiership defender.

Collingwood Gain - Paul Medhurst, Pick 8(Ben Reid) & Pick 63(Tyson Goldsack)

Fremantle Gain - Chris Tarrant, Dean Soloman & Pick 52(Brock O'Brien)
Fremantle Loss - Graham Polak, Paul Medhurst, Pick 13(1st Round), Pick 47(3rd Round) & Pick 63(4th Round)

Richmond Gain - Graham Polak, Pick 13(Jack Riewoldt) & Pick 60(Carl Peterson)
Richmond Loss - Pick 8(1st Round) & Pick 42(3rd Round)

Essendon Gain - Pick 42(Bacher Houli) & Pick 47(Kyle Riemers)
Essendon Loss - Dean Soloman & Pick 52(4th Round)

the other times we have traded in 1st round draft picks were for Terry Keays, James Manson, Jason McCartney & Mick McGaune

one day ill put together fremantles first 10 years of trading, i know people bag it all the time but i really dont think people realise just how bad it was, will prob end up being moved to the bay...

Dont forget the $$$$ we didnt pay in this deal, Thanks dees for paying all that money to our player who i think was underated during his time with the pies

2002

Collingwood Gain - Shane Woewodin
Collingwood Loss - Pick 14(1st Round)

Melbourne Gain - Pick 14(Daniel Bell)
Melbourne Loss - Shane Woewodin

I agree though its not often you get to pick up a Brownlow medalist.
Handy player though.
Does anyone know why he wanted out of the Dees?
I thought it was mostly about pay and their salary cap was bursting because they overpaid all their players when they made the GF in 2000. Melbourne for some reason used up nearly all their salary cap for years, even when they were struggling.

IIRC nearly all the players who played in that 2000 GF were getting paid very well. I think I might have read an article years later on how some player like Ben Holland was getting $400k/year. I don't know, I might be completely making things up but they certainly paid their players too much at the time.
