Review A Win’s A Win - Freo by Six In The ‘Away’ Game vs North

Both are babies still in KPF terms and are developing beautifully.
Our forward line (over the last 4 games) as a collective is as connected and dangerous at times as it's just about ever been in the post Pav era. Plus our ability to rebound from half back through the corridor and score is elite by competition standards.

It has really been Switta, Frederick, Reid, Voss and Bolton who have kept the forward line functioning the last 4 weeks.

Treacy has kicked 3 goals in 5 games, Amiss has only kicked 4 goals in 4 games, 6 goals in 5 games.

Treacy has been playing a lot higher the last 4 or 5 weeks, which is limiting his goal kicking, which is a complete output reversal from the first 8 or 9 weeks.

Is this just a consequence of us playing in the wet a fair bit, role change, or just changes in form?

Post game Freddie explained his positioning in the closing minutes.
He said that in tight finishes JT pushes back into defence plus Switta.
On Saturday Switta had come off and he, Freddie came from the bench as the extra.
Worked well on Saturday. Each took a mark. JT’s superb, Freddie’s simple uncontested. Freddie’s resultant kick rather better.

On the eye test North appeared to be quicker than Freo. This is supported by Tracker stats.
Of top 5 number of sprints in game 4 were Kangas with Freddy at 5th.
Repeat sprints top 5 all Kangas.
Sharp ran furthest in the game.

Kane Cornes can't help himself on afl.com

I know it's not a freo pot shot

But he couldn't help himself he had another crack at Sheezel in the Serong goal.

Talk about cherry picking like realistically was that the only thing you can pluck out of that game.

No wonder North are fed up with him

The less people engage the less effective his shtick is. Don't click on his AFL.com.au articles.

Don't look at instagram posts citing his headlines.

Don't listen to podcast segments discussing his views.

Don't mention him on BF.

His opinion should carry zero weight with footy fans. He doesn't analyse the game or explain where a game was won or lost. He is a poor man's Stephen A. Smith just spewing garbage to generate clicks which generates content for all other platforms which generates gambling ads.

**** him and the current environment that allows him and other cretins to thrive.

Me thinks many have been drinking turpentine tonight.
But in all honesty, it was one we almost threw away.
But four points is better than none. Good thing, we are winning the close games.
I doubt the legitimacy of some of our alleged supporters.
Its just a different KIND of SUPPORT Anchs.
Sort of....cruel to be clever, we know they mean well.

Who?

I hate to repeat it too...

Sheezel played pretty well I thought and he got coaches votes.

Cornes searches for the one thing in a game that he thinks supports his nonsensical statements.

He is a mouth breather.

The negativity on this board is draining at times.

Sometimes you just got to find a way to win and get the four points and Freo did that last night.

It was tough conditions coming of the bye. Make no mistake the Kangaroos set themselves up for this game and really wanted to make it a statement game.

I prefer to look at the positives, history says we are shocking after the bye but this year we got the four points which in previous years we have failed and it has cost us final spots.

Now onto a quick turn around and hopefully Dudley comes in.
I decided a long time ago to stay off the board for a few days after a bad loss...
It now seems a good idea to stay away after a "bad" win!
How did I not know that?

Super quick without their skills dropping were North, it was pretty good to watch. Thought Port were similar a few weeks back especially early with their hunt and handling. To have us play fairly ordinary and still get the job done says there’s something going on with our gameplay that’s working. Or maybe we’re producing patches enough to blow a game out of reach.

North Melbourne v Fremantle

9 Caleb Serong (FRE)
8 Andrew Brayshaw (FRE)
4 Josh Treacy (FRE)
4 Luke McDonald (NMFC)
2 Luke Parker (NMFC)
2 Harry Sheezel (NMFC)
1 Luke Davies-Uniacke (NMFC)

so Treacy either got 4 and 0 or 3 and 1....
Serong and Brayshaw a 5 each

Someone has already posted a good insight to why Serong was pretty huge for us, even if he didn't have great disposal efficiency. I'd just like to add though - I've noticed Serong is using his left foot a LOT more - I'd say over half his kicks are on his left (including the one that went OOTF). I am wondering if this is a conscious decision by him to strengthen his game on both sides or if it's his field positioning? Again, this will improve (and is already improving) and makes him harder to tag/shut down/defend.
⚓
On this point I remember while watching the game the commentary mentioned how bad Sebba's efficiency was and I thought "Yeah but his last 5 kicks have been left foot under extreme pressure"

Ur safe from Kelli...and no James Brayshaw either
BUT
I am an A Grade traitor for sayin this:
Pav waas aaaawful in the last few minutes
Repeat comments like 'North Melbourne just have to stay calm here' etc etc
Terrible reverse bias
Pav was a terrific player and captain for us. But some of his commentary seems almost anti-Freo.

Pav is one of if not my most loathed commentator. He's trying so hard to be neutral that he's blatantly one sided. I won't say he never questions the umpires, but some of his attempts to clarify/justify a decision are painful to listen to. If it's a shit decision against Freo, you're allowed to say so Pav. It's not bias, it's commentary on the game you're watching.

This Pav thing is quite hilarious

I was having a Quick Look on the Roos autopsy thread yesterday and a lot of them were banging on about how biased Pav was towards Freo

I think we hear what we want to a lot of the time

Personally I don’t really like him as a commentator, a bit too monotone .

Pav also lives in a universe filled with Victorian commentators who are definitely not biased - they're just calling the game.

Whereas Pav played for Freo, commentates Freo games and lives in a place that does not appear to be Victoria at all.

I suspect he's aware of this misnomer and over compensates - I noticed in his first year commentating he was more enthusiastic about Freo, and then it changed almost overnight. I imagined he was hauled over the keels by someone in a suit far too snug around the midriff.

It's all a moot point - commentary across most sports is trash now. They put a microphone in the hand of whichever ex-champ wants a gig.

There was this magical decade called the 90s where you could turn the TV on and hear Richie Benaud commentating the cricket, and Cometti commentating the footy.

I turn the commentary volume off completely or at least just the tv broadcast team and listen to Mundy and Reading.

It's the aural equivalent of getting out of your soiled jocks having a hot shower and then slipping into some freshly laundered briefs.
