Ablett better for the freak of nature act and versatility, Dunstall possibly more reliable as a pure full forward. Obviously you can't lose either way, but I'd go Ablett based on the fact he brings more to the table.

Both undisputed legends of the game, would love them in the same forward line, just as well Ablett didn't click at Hawthorn because a side with Jason, Dermie and Ablett would have been near impossible to beat. Went with Jason solely because he kicked over 1000 goals and has several premiership medals whereas Ablett despite his brilliance doesn't have the same

Dunstall is also one of the games greatest ever players. To try to pigeon hole him as a great of his position only is simply foolish. It's not like we are talking a player like Corey Enright who is a great back pocket but hardly in the upper echelon of all time great players.

Perfectly entitled to say GAS was better. FWIW I don't think he's in the best handful of his own era. Carey, Lockett and Dunstall all better, if less freakish, IMO. However, none of them are 'in-a-canter' better than any of the others.

For me it’s Ablett and it’s not even close. He was simply a remarkable footballer. You may not agree with me and that’s fine, but that doesn’t make you right and me wrong.

That's simply ridiculous any way you look at it. Dunstall is in the top echelon of players to EVER play the game. As is Ablett. No matter which way you go here in your choice, there isn't a player in history who is easily better than Dunstall.... or Ablett.....Carey, Lockett etc.

As for Dunstall not playing anywhere else bar FF, that's not the point. He is one of the greatest ever full forwards. But he is also one of the greatest ever players full stop.

The bottom 5 there could be swapped around depending on what mood I'm in.

Ablett Snr is comfortably in the conversation for greatest player of all time.

Dunstall is comfortably in the conversation for greatest full foward of all time and top 50 - 100 players of all time.

mate people talk about Carey, Ablett and Matthews as potential GOATS, not once have I heard Dunstalls name brought up in that convo.

Probably Dunstall. Chased and tackled before it was a requirement for AFL players, also was very good with assists. Add 1200 odd goals to all that and he should be ahead of Ablett.

Dunstall was freakishly talented in his own right, just not very spectacular, but his hands, strength and speed were quite remarkable. Decent set shot too.

Ablett played FF far longer than post 30. That's become a myth post retirement. As has his standing in the game.

Ablett has the freakish highlights reel while Dunstall just produced great football every week without the fanfare. Ablett was far more wow-ing but not as consistently great, despite some obviously great periods of consistency at times.

He'd played full-forward before, throughout his career really. The key number there is 17 games. Yes it was a brilliant, but short run of form, which he never replicated again.
