after an average start we have hit back!

*Rutten has started well on Rutten and was probably winning that duel til just then when he gave away the holding the ball in the pocket!

*Clarke has been sensational in the ruck with an early goal and setting up our second with a great tap to Johncock!

*Bock has been running Goodes all over the park and has had the better of that duel for sure, disappointing he didnt kick that goal though... wouldve put him even further infront of Goodes

they were just 3 of our better players i thought for the first quater.. plenty of others doing well too

You spoke too soon! - 4 goals down at half time - Two free kicks on the siren and a better forward in Hall has proved that a week is a long time in footy! Welshy has come back to earth a bit despite kicking one good goal - a bad set shot and some missed marks - compare this to the impact that Barry Hall is having - and to be fair Rutten hasnt done too bad on him.

I feel generally we are just not making the most of our chances.
Maybe we can turn it around in the 2nd half. Maybe....

We cant seem to generate any run, we're not using the handball out of defence well. Our defenders have made a couple of blues (Basset's free kick was just stupid!), and the lack of defensive pressure from our midfielders is a real concern. Welshy is having an off night.

On the plus side, Rutten and Bock have been OK. Their first quarters were good, they dropped away a bit in the second.

The way the game has gonme with those frees and the 50's, plus a guy like Hall doing some good stuff, usually points to the fact that its not your night!

Is Roo injured or just not quite with it?

yer well i was going to do one after every quater but me missus rang 1/2 way through the 2nd bawling her eyes out so i had to go and have a chat and only just got back from that... so i didnt see any of the 2nd and now going to make sure she is okay!

I hope everything is ok.

I'm afraid we dont look like scoring many more goals from here - just nothing constructive there when going forward - the guys are putting in but its just not happening.

Well at least they never got a goal from a free kick on 3/4 time - mind you we cant buy one! - shocking game to watch, really frustrating - a clean take in the foward 50 would come in handy - and players holding their feet might help!

Well - it looks like those 2 goals on/after the siren in the 1st half were most significant!!

It was a good last 1/4 holding them goalless and nearly mark of the year to Fergus! - but in the end their goals in the 2nd 1/4 were too hard to pick up.

Watt a leap

Atleast we fought on till the end and only lost by 2 goals in the end, even though the game was over at 1/2 time. Sydney too good, they are a good experienced side and the younguns will learn alot from this.

I thought it was a good "development" game.
even though we only won 1 quater we didnt quit or even drop our heads at all.
An effort worth encouragment IMO.

I've been watching the freo V north game, pretty good game to watch, as opposed to the tripe served up by both sides at the SCG.
Yeh - wont be looking to watch our replay on Fox when it comes on!

If the AFL is planning to make inroads in the tough Sydney market, I think they need to have a chat with Roos. The bland, overly-defensive and unexciting brand of football the Swans play is NOT going to attract any further interest in the game.

The final scoreline flattered us...we hardly made anything out of our opportunities and never looked like scoring goals.

Fergus's gametime was very disappointing, he deserved much more than that and he showed this by that AWESOME leap. I was screaming his name when I say him on top of those shoulders. FFFEEERRRRGGGGUUUSSSSS! :p

And that just shows Craig's slowness in making changes. After half - time we all knew there was no real chance of a comeback and we should have played the kids for rest of the game. Unfortunately, we didn't make any changes until the last quarter.

Edwards played a very good 1st half, while Macca, Doughty and Kenny all played good games. I though Rutten played a very good 1st quarter and 2nd half. His 2nd quarter let him down though. Admittedly, Hall's 4 goals we hardly ever the fault of Truck.

Our last quarter was alright, it gave us some momentum into the game against Freo. Unfortunately, nothing much to gain from that slog.

It's what Macca23 said in another thread....

That's why I see Roos getting his team to play that ugly flooding, tagging and short chipping game to prevent that happening. That would become a big test for our young players if that happens.

And Roos just admitted he wanted to win "ugly" tonight! - 4 points is 4 points!!

That was a fantasic leap by young Ferg. If only he held onto it long enough. Also, Biglands' effort to mark the ball in the backline was great too.

Overall, I thought the boys tried hard in the last quarter. However, they didn't use the ball very well (especially the delivery into the forward line), which was quite disppointing to watch.

Without doubt the most boring game I have witnessed for a long long time:(

How anyone can derive any positives from tonight is beyond me.
No system, no bright lights from a player perspective, just a non event.

Anybody notice how the people in the crowd looked like they were watching paint dry .... until of course they realised the camera was on them then a few of them started laughing or waving, but for others even knowing they were on TV was not enough to excite them.

Tell me about it. :(

I couldn't believe it ... I was actually changing the channels when there was a bounce up or a throw in.
Thats it, when the teams own supporters can't sit in front of the TV without finding some excuse to do something else - you know the game is, I actually started to watch the Fremantle game;)

Yeh - hated the game - Roos should be told the image of the game is important - to hell with the result!! - well i guess not - but look at the hard fought game in Perth - great tight footy - plenty of clashes and contests and opportunities for players to strut their stuff if they were good enough.
