Just dusted off my PS1 and have to say that AFL 99 is the best AFL game i have ever played. Very basic, but the way the players position themselves (eg they don't just stand in their set position) is great. And the bumps are very satisfying.

I'll buy this game, play the carp out of it, think of how it could be better and start hoping for the next one. as per

Was a simpler time. Was a super game.

If a company like 2K can release the latest WWE with so many glitches, we shouldn’t be too critical of wicked witch in comparison. Their silence over the last month however is worrying signs

We should certainly give them some leeway on overall quality and particularly extra features, bells and whistles but imo the only important game in regards to AFL Evolution 2 is AFL Evolution 1.

Once we get to play it, has it improved overall? Have they kept what they fixed through patches and built on it or has it stepped back in places? Is it more fun then the last one? Is there anything new?

That'll decide for me if it's a pass mark or not... and if I'm buying it.

Their silence is mainly due to TruBlues insistence of not saying anything until a week before release. And even then, you don't get much. There isn't much faith in the products they produce, obviously.

It really is a bizarre way to market this game. The fact we're into November and we've still not seen really anything apart from some teasers but they reckon it'll launch in 2019 is odd.

To me that says that they're scared to show off gameplay so they don't have any negativity around the launch.

Cashing in on Christmas sales is a good idea, but not when it comes at a cost to the game's quality.

Tru Blu is just cashing in on the AFL licence. They don't care about quality. They know footy fans will buy a game with the AFL brand attached regardless of how well it plays, as evidenced by the last Evolution. They're not going to jeopardise potential sales by showing gameplay that fans take issue with. They'll keep everyone hopefully optimistic that it'll be a substantial improvement on previous iterations.

Also means they don't have to spend much on marketing.

I don't disagree about Tru Big cashing in but are we buying it regardless of quality? I'd be curious to know what the total sales for the last three games have been but I can't imagine evolution sold at all well.

I'm not holding my breath for it to happen even though imo it'd be a good business decision but I'd love to see the AFL up their funding and their expectations for these games. Even in such a niche market I reckon we are at such a low ebb that a significantly better product could actually produce significantly better sales.

Not sure but Evolution holds the largest eb games returns of any game, previous most was ....Live 2.

Why change engine then?

There's a lot of Ashes Cricket 2013 about this.

Why change engine then?

Gives them an excuse to say well we had to switch engines mid development so they can get another crack at in evo 3 when 2 is average again.

Surely we have to see a post soon regarding the state of the game or a possible updated release date..

Probably on December 31 saying "the game will not release this year"

Don’t know if this means much but EB games has changed to a 2020 release

Saw a couple of fellas in the AFL Evo facebook groups say they've spoken to their local EB's, who have said there is no chance it will be this year. More than likely game will just be released whenever they had planned that 2020 DLC (March/April). The lack of communication is certainly frustrating though

Agreed, if it's not coming out this year they 100% know that by now (and likely have for a while).

Why not update the release date as early as possible? It's not like there is a whole lot of hype to worry about derailing, if they said now that they're holding it back because it's just not ready I'd take that as a positive.

Exactly right, I'm sure there will be people in the community that would be dissapointed or even annoyed at them but at the end of the day it will be better for everyone to have a game that when it's finally released to be in full working order. Most AAA title games aren't even that now days
