Jeez the Instagram/Twitter comments are just savage. I feel for the devs. They are on a hiding to nothing from the moment the game is announced.

Casual gamers will never be happy unless it’s announced that EA or 2K are developing it, which is ironic considering how thieving those two companies are with microtransactions and how much shit they cop for their flagship games. Yet they’re held up as this bastion of greatness by Aussie nuffies.

You pay peanuts you get peanuts. Dunno what people are really expecting.
WW's attempts at AFL games have thus far been pretty poor, even with lowered expectations. Aussie developers have shown they can make decent games on a budget; WW have not. Most people need to be convinced that WW is capable of producing something playable after they were so crushingly disappointed by what AFL Evo was.

Wicked Witch currently do not get the benefit of the doubt. They've had two goes at an AFL game and come up short each time. AFL Live remains the measuring stick; Evo was not better than it.

But I agree with those arguing that graphics don't matter. The looks of the game are the least of my concerns; in fact, it worries me more when I see the developer putting a significant emphasis on the graphics because it seems like a distraction from the core issue of the gameplay. We need something that feels good to play. Evolution was a complete chore. If the game is fun to play, you'll forget about crap animations or low res textures or whatever. You can brush these off as peripheral concerns.

AFL Live 1 was far from perfect for its time. It was not FIFA and it was not a precisely accurate simulation of the real game. Once you got the hang of it, however, it was fun and felt smooth to play. Evo had heaps of game modes Live 1 did not have, as did Live 2, but they were both painful to play so I didn't bother getting into them, which is why I wish people would not demand super detailed career modes or Be a Pro modes or whatever and that the devs wouldn't waste time on them. They're nice to have, sure, but completely pointless if the core gameplay is shithouse. We know that a heap of people who bought Evo 1 returned it soon after. They got home and the feedback to how it played was resoundingly negative, so the work done on Be a Pro and the career modes and whatever was ultimately lost.

Thinking/Thought the same. But in today's crisis, I hope they (WW and TB) do alright from sales. Releasing a game now, that the team has worked so hard for is pretty f’ed.
They might see it as an opportune time seeing as how footy fans will be starved of content and ready to try anything AFL related. A lot of people who'd usually be at work sitting at home with nothing to do now as well.

Mods on the VG board here cringe every time a new BigAnt or Wicked Witch game is announced because of the kinds of petulant trolls it wakes from their caves. Making games is easy, making good games without a huge team and good budget is really hard. I've dabbled in it as a hobby for about 15 years in different engines and stuff and I'd hate to be the one responsible for programming the AI logic of an AFL game.

Saw a gameplay video on Facebook. Looked crap. Players looked cartoony, fend offs looked ridiculous, marking looked unrealistic. Even kicking looked clunky. Nothings changed

Don't care about high poly models or high res textures, particularly when there'll be so many players running around at once and being viewed from the distance. Chances are during gameplay it won't be noticeable.
Gameplay is the important part.

Just paused the trailer where Walters is taking a screamer, it appears Fyfe has the same face scan as Evolution unfortunately. Oh well, minor annoyance in what was a great trailer.

Don’t know what trailer you guys watched but I thought it looked great

Animations look smoother, graphically it looked great (majority of players looked face scanned which is good), new goal celebrations are cool and I love the bit of push and shove between players

I just want flowing gameplay including starting melees :) and flowing commentary.
Which game was it that had this back in the day? AFL 97, or 99 maybe? Full on boxing controls where you could just punch campaigners in the face :tearsofjoy:

Exactly. I usually play quite zoomed out so I can see the play unfolding ahead when I have the ball. When you're that zoomed out you'll never a wonky ball-drop or how bad Cotchins face looks, because you're too busy playing the actual game. If the gameplay flows (which it sometimes did quite well in Evo 1) then it'll be worth it.

People think it should be EA/2K level good. The people who genuinely think it's PS2 level graphics must have eye problems.

Push and shove stuff were added to Evo 1 in an update.

I'm not one of those sad blokes who comes on here and takes the piss out of WW with every post, I actually enjoyed Evo 1 mostly. But that trailer looked to be almost identical to Evo 1. Not really sure what's been added? Will wait for a proper gameplay clip if one is ever released before the 16th

This looks rubbish. It looks exactly like evo 1. I’m struggling to see any differences bar some cut scenes And updated jumpers ?? Players look painted on in a blurry background , Face scans are good but that really isn’t important , when the simple kicking mechanisms still look as bad as they did over ten years ago.

Fired shots.

While I can somewhat confidently say that the Evo 2 trailer looks better at least graphically, the fact that I had to think twice about it is kinda sad.

Also, I just got a sudden urge to play AFL Live.

Gee whiz this looks putrid. A quick look around social media comments sections and it’s not being received very well.

On the plus side at least we’ll have something wipe our ass with when we run out of toilet paper.

Support your local developers!! It's not going to be 2K level, but could be a more than decent game with updates over time. I'm sure it'll have more features than Evolution 1 and that game was actually pretty good! I would have preferred more marking options and a bit smoother gameplay, but it was far and away the most ambitious and well made AFL game to date.

Many people wanted Big Ant to have a go at it, but that didn't happen, and so what other options are there?? At least there is a game! In a market that's not that large. Maybe give it a chance etc...

It's all very well to say BA should do it, and i wanted them to as well, but that all fell through and so at least another studio is doing something here.
