Live from 2011 was far more closer to simulating it than Evolution. Evolution is like 10,000 steps backwards, and a bad imitation of Live. The movement in Live is far superior, Evolution is jaw dropping disappointing.
Maybe I have forgotten about AFL Live as it was soo long ago, but I have a hard time recognising any real difference between the two games in terms of gameplay. Both were contest heavy.

Having played both recently, Live 1's movement is more fluid. A hand passing is more precise, and the ai isn't just 1 on 1's.

Be a better CEO then?

Maybe, I dunno. All I know is that for 20 years, companies tried and failed to make good cricket games and now Big Ant have developed over the last 4 years an awesome one.

I don't have any confidence that the AFL has any real interest in making a great AFL game ... unlike say the NBA who have really embraced 2K.

fu** I hate shit like that. You have to go sooo far out of your way to get this type of trophy its ridiculous.
Agreed. It's ruddy stupid. If they had a scenario mode where this was a pre-done thing then sure.

Big Ant have done a great job convincing people that AFL Live 2011 was good....
So if we enjoy a game it's not because the game was good but because we've been brainwashed? Rightio.

I still play it to this day, my PS3 is still set up in my living room for purely for Gran Turismo and AFL Live. It absolutely wasn't perfect and I posted as such on here when it was current, but it's the best AFL game I've ever played.

I guess in a way you're right. An excellent way of convincing people a game is good is to make it enjoyable. Now you've got me doubting if Spider-Man was any good or if Insomniac just convinced me it was...

I think you're right. Constant one-on-ones, lock on tackling (again, one-on-one only), etc. without the rose-coloured glasses they are very similar.

Marking was dodgy in both of them. I used to spoil everything in Live. I guess I needed to "get gud" but I won the premiership on the highest difficulty easily enough. Didn't play online. Marking is horribly counter-intuitive in Evolution.

Which I think is the real issue. Evolution wasn't so much this massive step backwards that Live's craziest fans say it was, I think it's more of a case there wasn't enough improvement from Live (fair enough, there was a long time between them) which in classic Internet style has blown out to something ridiculous :)

Why did they stop?
From the bits of pieces we've heard over the years, it's basically that TruBlu wanted a game out in far less time for far less money. Big Ant said no so they went to Wicked Witch who then literally just ported their Wii game across. TruBlu then tried to mislead the public that it was still Big Ant by calling it AFL Live 2 and initially refusing to divulge who the actual developer was.

Movement looks very good. Only thing I didn’t like was the way the ball was held out in front of Zorko while running (not sprinting) although I guess that won’t exactly be noticeable while playing.

"Budget sheets" is a quote Ross uses.

There is a scenario mode this year, although I wonder if it still allows you to collect trophies or not.

New loose ball video up

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

That last play of the two players tapping the ball along the ground to each other for the quick clearance was pretty slick.

Liking this so far.

All the talk about AFL Live 1 is really annoying.

Both recent videos look promising, I noticed two players chasing the guy with the ball (not uncommon in real life) but I hope this doesn't mean we'll get packs of 4-5 players chasing one guy like we did in Evo 1

Still 1 on 1's and that bad kicking mechanic. Looking like another flop.

Jeez, give 'em a chance! I don't care if people berate the game and shit on it for all it's worth post-release, but judging it to be "another flop" from just two tutorial videos – particularly when the usually tough Facebook comments crowd have been overwhelmingly positive for them – is just cruel.

I think these sorts of games will always feature plenty of one-on-ones. AI will be easier to write, it's easier for the player to see what's happening, it's closer to what people seem to want from the actual game of Aussie Rules (less packs and repeated ball-ups, more … one-on-one contests!)

Players do seem to be able to get a decent amount of separation from their direct opponent. That's encouraging. Sprinting might actually be useful and the game might be more free-flowing as a result.

All speculation though. But it looks better than I was expecting.

Looked pretty cool, but tbh I don't think the tapping of the ball is all that common in footy.

Praying torpedo's aren't just a guaranteed perfectly long straight kick in this game

I'm praying I'm wrong, but it still looks like it has the same flaws from their previous titles. Like that same scripted kicking mechanic I was hoping they'd make more organic/natural like in Live 1.
