2004 had a system where it would either go left or right and you had to guess which way.

From memory 2004 was the year of the Op kick too. My brother would play the Hawks and Spider Everett would grab it out of the ruck and kick a goal from the square.

That in it itself makes for differing tactics like real life. Do you want to go for a helter skelter approach or try and win the clearance with a Choccie Neale bullet handball out to an elite kicking midfielder? Should be fun to test it out!
I think his concern is the game might even be balanced around it properly and one tactic becomes op whilst the other becomes obsolete.

I know the last few WW games have been complete dogshit and hyped up prior to release; but you should always give people a fifth chance.

That's why I've preordered and paid for express shipping without seeing any gameplay.

Yep. Impossible to miss a set shot unless you tried too or there was wind. Drop punts always went straight.

I was a little disappointed they didn't include goal kicking as part of their kicking feature. I know that's such a first world thing to say but damn it I am in need of some footy!
I think tomorrow is marking and mayne goal kicking on Friday with the launch?

Hmm true. You'd hope they factored that in. Surely they would.

It annoyed me as even with Keating and McDonald in the ruck I struggled with that annoying tactic. To be fair I was 11 and he was 25 so he may have known button combinations that I didn't. That bastard!

Anthony Rocca or Ben Graham 75m bombs were elite.

Not that I had this as I only owned a PC at the time but was it AFL Premiership 2006 where the kicking meter was a mini ball bouncing side to side between goals? And you had to press the button when it was in the middle. But too bad if someone was about to tackle you and the ball was nowhere near it?

You’d hope so I’m still erring on the side of caution given WW track record.

I never really played against human opponents so it never really annoyed me. I think I may have tried that with Rocca a couple of times in the ruck but he was probably too slow to pull that off consistently.

Get the ball anywhere with 60 metres to Anthony Rocca and you’ve got goal as long as he’s line up towards the goals in 2004.

I'm glad those days are over, but they were also pretty hilarious.

Below is a mini map screen grab from the kicking tutorial. Honestly this looks very promising! An actual AFL-like distribution of players!

Also to the guy earlier who said that these games were normally hyped up and then disappointing, where the hell did you hear the hype? WW has an awful marketing team. None of these games were hyped much, even this one.

Another example, here showing a lot of congestion around the ball and an open forward line. Pretty cool. Hopefully it's a tactic you can set in the game.

I will note however in the animation the Essendon ruckman wins the hit towards the left, but it goes to the right...

That would be me, a few posts up - not particularly difficult to find.

Also not difficult to find is this thread: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...-in-launch-thread-link-in-op.1150062/page-277
which is over 300 pages long, and at this point (a few days before release) people were discussing how to best systematically harass elderly Target workers into releasing the game a day early.

Watched those two running and loose ball videos on the AFL Evolution facebook page. The running one is just same as always. Stop sprinting and the guy will bounce. I guess a new thing is you can manually bounce too.

For the loose ball the ability to tap the ball in the direction of your choice is nice!

However this is what made me the most excited out of all:

There are to my count 16 Carlton players in the defensive ~ 40% of the ground. Is it just me or does this actually look like real football? That gives me hope! Maybe this won't be so bad after all!

Quite certain you could always manually bounce and tap to advantage.

I feel like this might be the best AFL game we have seen to date in terms of tactics and player movement. For instance, people keep saying that the clearance kick is going to be OP, but from what I've already seen, the opportunity to play an intercept defender should mostly negate this tactic. I feel as if this game is gonna get a lot of people turning into mastermind coaches after just a few hours of play. Really really good signs!

Hoping for a good career mode (trade, draft, player development) but not holding my breath.
Given that even EA fail comprehensively to do this you're lucky you're not, otherwise you'll almost certainly choke to death.

They might be more up and under type kicks and easier to get under to spoil or bring the ball to ground

What will be OP is how good they are around goals. Might be better than trying for an actual goal
Accuracy could be lower as it is technically just a hack kick, who knows though, I think it'll just be a 30m is kick in the general direction of where you point the left stick. Pre simple
