I love the idea of sliders, that you can craft the game to play the way you want to play. And a lot of that is subjective, everyone will prefer a different setting. But when adjusting sliders stops the AI from spraying it out on the full ... It's pretty clear the default settings are objectively wrong in certain cases.
This is exactly it.
There’s been guys in here whinging that marking is too hard. Others whinging that AI is too dumb. Others angry that AI is too bullshit flukey. And others that they get tackled too quickly.

Everyone has different skills and weaknesses. Sliders allow you to adjust the game to suit you. I spent the first few days playing, stopping and changing slider so it’s closer, playing and repeating.

Now I’ve got it that I am winning slightly more than losing, but every game isn’t a blow out one way or another. (In saying that, I’ve still been done by 4-5 goals, and won by similar).

If you dismiss sliders, fair enough, but please don’t continue to whinge here that the game out of the box isn’t playable. Because it might be for others, and perhaps you’re just poor at it in certain areas. Not an excuse for the bugs - WW have admitted there are plenty. But things like the lock on target are fine imo. If you can’t find a close lock, then perhaps it’s better for “fairness” that you can’t lock on to someone 40m away. Get better at manual directional kicking. It works wonders when you get good at it.

If you aren’t enjoying the game, I highly suggest you experiment with sliders. If you don’t know where to start, perhaps try the ones I posted in the other thread (I’ve already changed them quite a few times as I continue to improve).

Whinging that the AI is too dumb? Are you actually serious with that response?

Nobody is dismissing sliders at all and you can't seem to grasp the whole "People shouldn't have to do this to make the game playable" concept.

People issues with the lock on target are absolutely valid, it's a pain in the ass trying to select your target quickly before play on is called. A much easier concept could've been icon passing.

- Like in NBA 2K, tap a button and it gives players on the court an icon to select them which you could limit to 4 or so players in view of the player with possession.
- Tap the icon and that player is selected as the target you then kick to them.

Anything is better than the current set-up they have.

That's the sort of control set up I was hoping for pre-release.

Bit sus on the handful of accounts created recently just shit canning the game in this thread. Pretty poor effort.

Also BigAntStudios it's all well and good to say the game sucks and like posts about that narrative but no one here gives a fu** about you telling us how you could do it better, we want a better game not a development team telling us how bad other ones are.
If you were so certain you could do better than your company has let fans down by not being compelling enough to keep the games rights. Don't really give a shit what the reason is either because if it's money you still seem to be certain you could do it better at the same cost anyway.

I've clearly deferred to Sebastian Giompaolo of Tru Blu to help you guys out, and I've done nothing since except post sparingly and even then, only insights of development and actual posts helping people find the game.

I will continue to occasionally hit like on a post I find amusing, or that I am in agreement with, I'm an AFL fan that goes to games every week, I've been here a long time and like yourself, I reserve that right.

Qualifying final went down to the wire.

This is a guess, but I think most of the dumb AI bugs stem from the pressure metre being too unforgiving.

You can be 15 metres clear running into an open goal and once you kick, the pressure indicator usually says severe pressure. CPU set shots occasional show the pressure indicator, and it says severe more often than not (even on random dead in front set shots in the second quarter).

I assume that when pressured it impacts the skills and decision making quality significantly, and the gauge deems way too much as severe pressure. If they could dial that back i think plenty of dumb AI moments would disappear.

The point is well made that you shouldn’t HAVE to **** with a million settings to get a playable game, but at least it’s nice that you can and fix some things the developers really should have sorted in the year delay they bought themselves.

Am enjoying playing be a pro though haven’t finished under 18s yet. Obviously not a AAA game but definitely having fun with it.
1 question, did I miss the part where I selected where I was from? I’m a NSWelshman so want to play for the Allies not Vic Country. Yet I was selected for them.

My biggest issue at the moment (in gameplay terms) is not realising I took a mark in a big pack, playing on inadvertently and getting pinned holding the ball.

I need to train myself to not press any buttons after a pack marking contest until it's clear who has the ball.

Has anyone managed to play a single game as the Eagles at Optus, and have a crowd of Eagles fans? Because I have not :( Played Collingwood at the MCG and if anything the crowd was neutral. Lots of random teal in the crowd for some reason.
I have the same issue. Playing as a rookie and so many times I've marked in the forward 50 only to automatically kick it straight back out.

Hey, I wasn't whinging about getting tackled too quickly. I just didn't realise my slider was basically set to 'instant' on that one.

I agree with you that there are so many variables and that everyone has different levels of expertise with this game. Make it too hard out of the box and and you'll alienate the beginners and intermediates. Make it too easy and it's not challenging enough for the diehards. The sliders are the perfect compromise as they allow everyone to tailor the game to their liking. AI too dumb, then make them smarter.

Now WW should do a better job at pointing this out for users, with comprehensive explanations of what each slider does, but it's just left for them to 'discover' at a later stage. They need to work on that.

Is it just me or when the ball lands after a kick, does it travel too fast from that point towards the boundary?

Expecting Sebastian Giompaolo of Tru Blu to respond and care about his audience and feedback for the game ?
Now that’s a funny post 🤣

Tru Blu and the AFL only want that $$$
Nothing more, nothing less

After customizing the settings I've worked out the best way to play this game to get the most enjoyment out of it.

Difficulty on Legend or where ever you feel you are at.

Customize user settings to
Run speed 100
Stamina 100
Fatigue 100
Tackling 65
Marking 72
Rucking 60
Handball distance 80
Everything else the default 50

Umpiring push in the back down to 30

Computer settings
Stamina 100
Fatigue 100
Rucking 70
Marking 72
Handball distance 80
Run speed 65-70

Goal kicking accuracy only for computer increased to
70 for set shots
70 for on the run
70 for close range
70 for middle range
65 for outside 50

I did this find it's less frustrating and more a fast flowing game. Best way to play it.

Also you must turn off the auto bench rotations to manual as auto does a lot of dumb changes like putting a small player in the ruck ect..

You don't need to do any rotations if the stamina endurance is set to 100 anyhow for each side.

I wish they had a proper way to report bugs. At the moment it really is not worth the effort to try and help when there is no definitive way to post a bug and no way to get feedback.

I agree 100%. I made a list and it was never viewed or acknowledged by WW through methods like email or dm their evo group. It was only because Sebastian Giompaolo appeared here that it was seen at all.

Good to see someone else utilising the sliders to make their ideal game! What’s funny is that many of your sliders are the opposite of mine.

I’m finding the default game way too helter skelter, and want to slow everything down so its more a possession game (that I can compete in).
To create this, and my desire of less man on man matchups, I turn things like stamina, run speed, fatigue right down. It certainly creates way more loose players than the default game if others are wanting something similar.
(Edit: wait, i have fatigue set to high, as I was of the belief a higher number means more fatigue quicker?)

To me, the distance players can continually handball by default is far too high (there’s always the lob handball if really needed), and I have my handball distance for both down to mid 40s from memory.

Also, any theory behind having user rucking at 60 and CPU at 70, and the marking both at 72 instead of 50 each? Not a go - genuinely curious if having both higher change anything?
(Again, I actually prefer having the realistic occasional dropped mark, so have got both marking fumbles turned right up).

Edit: to show the difference two players can want in the exact same game, here are my very different settings. This backs up my thinking that footy is incredibly hard to get right out of the box for most people, and why I’m personally very thankful they provide the sliders that they do.

Well now we know that whoever runs that page visits BigFooty, cause I reckon I’d seen at least half those clips on here.

So 2 months until they prop my frame rate above 30. Absolute skeleton crew at WW I'm presuming
I would think that was certain, so we need to be patient and relax as this may not be patched for a while unless the whole production team are working remotely.

I’m finding that once you turn up the difficulty to Legendary (highest), plus change the AI pressure awareness slider, they don’t make too many stupid mistakes. The biggest one out of the box was kickins. They’d love to play on from a kick in, and as soon as I put pressure on them, they’d bomb it out on the full.

But once I changed every teams kick in structure to a more realistic zone or press (instead of man on man by default), and changed the AI pressure awareness slider, I’ve found that maybe only 2 or 3 times in an entire game they fk up royally. (They now hit targets most times)
Having grown up watching the Dees play, I can safely say this isn’t too far off reality..

Also, on another note, cheers to whoever suggested ensuring that your second ruckman starts on the bench (and is actually in the 22!)
This has had a big effect on selected ruckman at bounces - almost always its one of these two guys now.
I'm working with the sliders you posted but didn't put the difficulty to legendary... Their (AI) goal kicking was shit so will put up to legendary, does this genuinely make a difference, meaning, do they score goals or miss the barn door from ten yards?
