Not pre-release, but an early release, which most likely means we have a longer wait until any planned “day 1” patch. Had this been released as planned on the 23rd April, more than likely there would have been an auto-downloaded patch (like so many other games have), and many of these issues would have never been seen.

Are you missing the fact that the game is already at version 1.01 (ie, one patch has already been released)? Digital releases download the latest version but everyone with a disc copy would've already downloaded the "day one patch".

Maybe we should have complained to The AFL licensing department, then? I don't subscribe to, "be grateful crummy footy games are being released otherwise there would be none." Maybe Big Ant can dip their toes into Gaelic football? I'd be totally over that.

I actually did once (after AFLL2, before AFL Evo was announced). Emailed them with a thought out explanation of what video games can do as an advertisement for a sport, and why AFL Live 2 as the AFL's advertisement to the gaming world was doing more harm than good as mountains of kids were returning it and going back to NBA and FIFA. All I ever got back was a canned "We'll pass this on to whatever department" response.

I'm getting f***ing sick of seeing Oscar McDonald in the ruck.

Haha I played Melbourne once..... Never again due to this fact. What's the point. Their best and most recognisable superstar player disappears.

Don't worry, Gawn will show up again with about 5 minutes left of the 4th quarter.

Best Camera: Play Direction

Let’s you play kinda side on, but slightly angled in the direction of the in-possession team’s goals to see leads up the ground.
(‘Dynamic’ angles in direction of goals that the ball is in, which sucks coming out of defence)

On ‘Play Direction’, I go with:
Distance: Far
Zoom: 55
Height: 55
And so it’s not too disorienting,
Rotation Speed: 30
Movement Speed: 30
Not perfect but seems to be the best. Game would still be a whole lot better if you could move the camera after a mark

Also the acceleration needs to be reduced massively, players go from 0 to 100 way too quick.

I actually reckon it’s fairly unprofessional and petty for a known developer to be in a forum dedicated to a competitors game, and then taking clear pot shots at it (even if it’s via reference of others comments). Happy to collage them all if anyone wants to dispute the above.

Yes he has been asked, but a professional would keep their lips sealed, and not even post under their company’s name/profile in a thread about a competitor! Can’t actually say I’ve seen it happen anywhere before.

Not a good look, and agree with the above posters, it is coming off as somewhat bitter and repetitve, even if he is including some ideas they would have theoretically implemented had they put their money where their mouth is, and developed the game themselves.
Personally I’m on board with it. I prefer developers engage with the community and give us their honest thoughts regardless if they come across as salty and not then hide away under the guise of “professionalism”

Also not sure why strength isn’t a key stat for key forwards...

Something I’ve found is helping is almost continuously holding down L2. It draws your controlled player to the ball and to the landing of marking contests. And when handpassing when you’re in possession it directs the ball better to team mates.

But holding L2 and simultaneously trying to press L1 to switch player is a mare.

Button configuration is a mess to be fair.

If it’s anything like last Evo, one cheap way to keep your main ruckman in position, is to edit him (and any other ruckman) to have 100% endurance/stamina or whatever it’s called. And if there’s recovery time, that too.
Trade this off by reducing their speed massively (except for the exceptional freaks) and I remember it meant they usually played out the game in the ruck.

Not perfect. But better than randoms taking over

Are you struggling with dates? Yes, literally there was a day one “patch” but considering they were aiming for a 23rd April launch - nearly 3 weeks later, what makes you think they wouldn’t have been planning to patch it more comprehensively on that date?

(They can’t “just update” the 1.0 version when physical discs have been manufactured weeks or months earlier already. Hence why almost every day 1 game I’ve played in the past few years has had a very big day 1 patch.)

Edit: proof will be in the pudding. If WW push out a decent patch that fixes many of our gripes (as they did in Evo 1) by the 23rd April, then hopefully a few come back here and say “ah, fair enough. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to play it 3 weeks earlier than planned while stuck at home, and fixing bugs on the original release date”)...
