Very similar to mine as a general forward
I also had a few to get x meters gained during a game I didn’t mind those ones because it mixed it up a little
I think the most metre gained I ever got in a game was 8m when I needed like 140. If kicking counted I had some good 40m goals that would have been handy

When do you reckon we’ll get a patch? I reckon Easter and iso almighty drag things out. Still having fun playing it. Easily the best AFL game made even in its buggy as state

I think I'm done at least until there's a significant patch.

AI is just making dumb decision after dumb decision.

It's like watching an under 10s game, you'd think the players had never played the game before.
What difficulty you playing on?

Veteran with sliders adjusted to make the AI not crap but I think it's impossible.
That's interesting cause I am on Vet as well and the only really dumb things I see is some average goal kicking and enjoying to switch the play when the switch isn't on

I've had two attempted switches in the last game get put through for deliberate rushed behinds (one free kick was a shot from the boundary even though it said deliberate rushed behind and the second was a free kick from the goal square, go figure).

Constant missed goals that defy physics.

Kicking sideways to a contest rather than hitting the open target up the field.

Playing on from a behind, running along the boundary and thumping it on the full right where they kicked it from.

It's just poor.

Yep, think I counted 11 out on the full kicks from the opposition during my last match. And it's not 60 metres down the line out on the full, it's a kicking out from full back out on the full

The good thing about playing as a fwd with the pro camera on is not being able to see the crap that goes on in your team's defensive end. Ignorance is most definitely bliss in BAP.

Yep. Freqently. It's nice to see the AI play-on but jesus.

This is the first AFL game I've played since the first live. I know others have asked on here but I can't seem to find a straight forward answer on marking and can't for the life of me work it out/ I've played probably 30 games up to senior difficulty and still get outmarked almost every single time. Appreciate there is a learning curve to these things but this is ridiculous.

The mark registers as I get the green circle but no matter how I time it or whether I brace or use the bump, whether I'm in front or behind I can't grab it.

If anyone can provide any tips, insight it would be greatly appreciated as it's a few games away from being a coaster.

I've tried to buy this a few times and had no luck. Anyone know if it's available anywhere in SA? Bloke at EB told me it's sold out statewide, even though their website suggests otherwise.

Can't justify paying $100 for a game these days especially like this but yeah, would've spent $80.

It's position based, timing has very little impact.

You have to put your player in the best physical position to mark.

Hold L2 as the ball approaches the marking contest. I think this sets up your receiver better. Seems to have helped me a bit.

Cheers. Will give this a go. Just noticed L2 is run to mark in marking contest (in the booklet, dont think its mentioned in any of the tutorials)

Any tips for kick-ins? Playing on legend, I can't seem to stop repeat opposition inside 50s from occurring unless I take the occasional massive clunk.

Were you playing Port? Sounds realistic.

Set shots need to be way more variable. The degree of difficulty from 10 metres out is about the same as the degree of difficulty from 50 metres out. The green bar should be most of the screen when you're close in, and a lot harder to hit from further out. Also there should be more margin of error for behinds as opposed to out on the fulls. Behinds are obviously way more common than OOF's in real life, but in Evo it's basically a goal or OOF with nothing in between.

Opposition has missed every set shot at goal from the goalsquare they've taken against me. They'll also pull up from 40 metres out and usually kick a point even if and when they have a ton of space and a clear path to run into an open goal.

In loose ball situations, the game will program players you're controlling to automatically make dumb decisions. I've had a player in a ton of space 15 metres out of goal try to soccer it through and kick a point rather than just let me pick it up and walk it into an easy goal. I was not pressing the kick button. I've also had my player automatically turn around to bump an opponent even though he was the closest to the ball. Why is this stuff automatically programmed in? Let the player decide what he wants to do, not the game's AI. Especially when that AI is so unreliable.

It takes forever for your player to turn around. If you take a mark in 10 metres out of space but want to run off in a direction that you're not facing, by the time your player has turned around to run off he's probably about to get caught holding the ball.

Speaking of holding the ball, you shouldn't be called for 'throwing' the ball when the opposition player gets a tackle to you as you're kicking it. I kicked a goal on the run from 40 metres which was called a free to the opposition for 'throwing' the ball. Ridiculous. It's play on.

Opposition will randomly kick the ball to the boundary line from the centre square with no player anywhere near it. If they're not close enough to get it out OOF, the game will call them for deliberate. I've also had the opposition full back play on from a kick in after a point and just run directly out of bounds.

From a mark, opposition will regularly switch the ball sideways or backwards to a contest, or do little 20 metre kicks to a contest. No reason that any player would make that decision in real life. If you've got an open man, great. If not, kick it long. Don't switch to a contest.

Handball chains are near impossible. Seems like if you're not facing in the exact right direction down to the pixel your player will just handball the ball directly into the ground, even under no pressure. Should work more like the A button in FIFA. As long as you're pointing roughly in the right direction, your player should be handballing to the right target.

#1 ruck barely spends half the game in the ruck. Obviously a glitch in the way rotations work. Needs to be fixed.

Someone’s mentioned this before, but the AI is still so ****ing dumb even on the highest difficulties. I’m playing on Hall of Fame rn (second highest) and having good battles, but the computer opposition still make so many inexcusable errors. The amount of ridiculous switch plays, clearance kicks, out on the fulls... and then when you pump the difficulty up to Legend they don’t get smarter, they just do way more arsey stuff, like snapping 55m goals out of a pack.

Their QA team must have barely existed. Again, as everyone says here, the gameplay foundation is solid. But some of the shit that goes on makes you wonder whether the devs even played their own game

Oh has anyone else noticed the random graphics glitch whenever a behind is kicked? The crowd instantly goes from frantically cheering to dead still, and the overall brightness / contrast of the game is bumped by about 15% until it switches to the next camera angle.

Hmm I was gonna jump in but the longer this threads gone on the opinion seems to be a sound avoid at the moment. I'm still ruined from AFL Live through to Evolution, each time I buy it and each time it gets about 2 games before I want to smash something. They've all been shit, it's amazingly shite for us AFL fans that 10 years ago we got this review from IGN that fits where we are now still :(

"Is AFL Live a great sports video game? No. Does it feel like football? Sometimes. And for those who have been punished by a decade of near-unplayable AFL video games, ‘sometimes’ will be enough."
