Anyone know if it's possible to play the game online if you're still on the 1.01 patch version?
Surely not, right?
Usually games that have an update downloading or paused won't let you access the online features of them if you're not on the latest version....

Yeah the last bit sounds correct

PSN/XBLA will not allow online play unless you have the latest version.

Ok. As I understand, the Switch is still on 1.01... There’s no 1.02 for Switch yet.
so Switch users are still missing the performance tweaks, and the reduced bandwidth hogging for online.

Switch is the same for online - everyone must be on the same version, otherwise online could be unstable (say you have teams/data, fixes, etc. the other side does not have).

Nintendo take ages to approve patches, the other platforms are 24-48 hours from submission.

Why Ninty take so long?

Anyone else got an XB1X who's game now simply won't start up?
I've contacted WW on the official forums, who suggested I delete my save game (did this - was painful as I was on my 3rd season and had built up a custom player), deleted the entire game, re-booted, rah rah all the usual troubleshooting steps, but still can't get past the copyright screen.
If they can't get this to work I'm putting in for a refund and officially signing off from WickedWitch AFL games.

Perhaps try this.

The Xbox One X has a cache. To clear it you need to do an absolute power down.

Turn it off as usual, then unplug it physically from the power.

Wait one minute.

Even though it is unplugged, press the power button on the front of the console.

Plug back in, power up. Hopefully it works.

PS: this is also the process to use for notebooks (especially Lenovo) that won't boot - but extra step, remove battery before pressing the power, this removes any power in capacitors etc.

Ok, having just praised it... I now have to slam it.

Just played my first proper games vs AI post the update.

WTF.

- User controlled players repeatedly run past the ball (Even if holding L2)
- there is a lag when you switch between players when ball not in possession
- ai goal kicking is totally unrealistic - they just nail shots from everywhere
- ai seems to always win the loose ball, even from positions where my player clearly in front, etc

It actually makes the game totally unenjoyable.

I’ll give it a little bit more of a go, pending which i’ll put back on the shelf til the next update.

In summary - not happy at all. Game is supposed to get better each update :(

Played again for the first time after the update last night and copped plenty of these.
- You're basically better off not selecting your player closest to the ball and letting your AI try to pick it up which is frustrating as hell.
- The CPU seem to teleport onto loose balls and have passages of God mode where they appear to travel 2-3 strides at a time.
I'm glad many of the bugs are gone but these lingering issues are still making it hard to play.

What level are you on? I have not had any of that, other than running over the ball which I have done the past couple of games a lot!

One thing I want tweaked is the mid-forward position in Pro mode, it's cool that we do get used in the middle, up forward or on the wing but so far it sits you in the one position all game. I'd like it tweaked so we actually get thrown into the middle or up forward during the game, it's better than it was but still needs improvement.

First game with the new patch, a vast improvement. The crowd sounds are also better, but still work to be done. The 'ball' from the crowd is really good yet the cheering for goals still sounds really artificial

Does anyone have a good camera angle to use when playing as a Rookie in Be a Pro mode? Haven't found one that either loses the ball out of frame when it's kicked to the opposite end, or isn't constantly spinning around at ground level, making you dizzy AF.

I've normally used the 'side' mid-far angle when playing full games, so something like that would be ideal.

You sir are an absolute champion - this worked!
Still hadn't received a reply from WW and had all but given up.
Have a digital beer, mang 🍺

I’ve always played on end to end close

Glad to help - the shame is that you really didn't need to delete your save file, hopefully you backed it up?

Since the patch it seems it's against my players religion to actually pick the ball up anymore
Fix one thing, screw another.
