AFL making a “stand” against gender-based violence this week by uniting prior to games to pay tribute to women who lost their lives to DV.

Just after we all got cushioned by the AFL media to accept Tarryn Thomas’ inevitable return.

Another lecture, another blind eye.

If a club picks up Thomas then all this will just be words, the AFL proving they don't actually care about violence towards women, more they care about people thinking they care.
We already know that anyway.

Their biggest sponsors are booze and gambling companies.

An absurd amount of gambling ads during the games.

Two vices of course that cause zero issues with domestic violence.

I applaud the motion, but back it up with action.

At the moment the AFL stands for its boys club above all else, including a voice against gender-based violence.

Taryn Thomas will get another opportunity if the “right” club (Pies, Geelong, Carlton, etc) wants him and it will be touted as a success story by the same media shills always under the thumb of AFL House.

Here's an idea for the AFL, lifetime bans for any player/administrator /media accreditation holder found guilty of domestic violence/ gender based violence.

Do that and they can be taken seriously, otherwise it's just words which will be contradicted by actions when TT, or equivalent gets their 2nd, 3rd, 4th chance.

Brad Scott- better not be serious about bringing him into Essendon.

He literally called Tarryn "A good person" today and talked about giving him another chance.

Tarryn was apparently quite the troublesome teen even before he was at North but Brad was willing to overlook the issues thinking he could change.

Brad is still a big fan - barring enough blowback there is a huge chance TT ends up as a Bomber.

and if he does Brad and Essendon are showing their true colours.

I hope any club that takes Thomas has a significant portion of their supporter base abandon them forever as they deserve it.

Thing is, the AFL can cut people loose. Sack them. Those people can go away, learn a trade, get a day job, live out their life.

There's no automatic right to play professional football. A surprising number of people don't, and they get along fine.

One might argue you don't get to zero tolerance without making these symbolic gestures to begin with.

It is plausible Carlton are not one of the clubs circling Tarryn Thomas purely as a result of wearing orange socks once a season for the past 8 years.

Thomas committed a grave act and deserves all the punishment/criticism for it but the insinuated pairing of him to women that have been killed is way out of touch in my opinion.
It's not an insinuation. The definition of domestic violence explicitly puts Thomas in the same class of guys who kill their wives, girlfriends, etc.: "any violent, threatening, coercive or controlling behaviour that occurs in current or past family, domestic or intimate relationships".

Allegedly multiple escalating acts which can lead to the worst offences. Allowing him to ever play professional football again sends a clear green light to abusers.

Has a legitimate court found Thomas guilty of anything?

You think the whole thing is made up? Put your tinfoil hat back on. Its clear as day, he's admitted wrong doing himself in the past.

Very, and I mean very few things actually go to court, almost everything is settled out of court which is exactly what happened to the charges laid against him. On his part he had to make a donation to charity and what would have been a private settlement with the victim.

If he were innocent he would likely be telling people as such.

Yep that's it all they do is wear orange socks once a year.

You may have missed the part of the work they do in schools and workplaces along with raising awareness about the issue.
