AFL Round 18 Coll v Suns Postmatch Discussion -Toasts - Roasts

I was really disappointed in the lack of pressure on the Suns at stages tonight. The most glaring of which resulted in the Stanley goal, they managed to take it from one end of the ground to the other with about 5-6 possessions and through the whole passage of player not one Magpie got within 20 metres of an opponent.

On Maxwell he was no worse this week than he has been in any other match throughout the year and considering he hasn't been dropped yet his position is definitely safe in the team. His game tonight was just made to look worse because most of his fellow backmen were poor as well!

All up the best way I can put it is a wins a wins a win and as long as Johnno and Daisy are fine that's all that really matters!

The commentary in the 2nd half was some of the worst barracking I've ever heard.

Russell and Dunstall (worst sideline caller in the game bar none) were both rubbish. Just call the game you peanuts. Even though we were in front by plenty, it was irritating to listen too.

I thought Cam Wood was really good in the 1st half. Only OK in the 2nd.

Pretty ordinary 2nd half but happy for a win and hopefully no serious injuries.

Daisys' looked like a cork, what happened to Johnno?

16 from last 19 interstate games.

Russel is the worst commentator in the history of the game, including Kelly Underwood. I honestly don't think he is sane and needs immediate treatment.

Worst Commentator! Robert Balls(sack), Stephen "Loves Essendon" Quarterlame and Tim "The Alien" Lane!

Russel was pathetic though.

Oh yeah for sure, that goldsack of 60oddgames in and out of the side is clearly, superior to the premiership captain and all Australian nick Maxwell

Spare us, my brain hurts enough after listening go Dwayne Russell

Maxwell had a stand out year in 09 playing as a loose man guarding 1st year players, he had a poor start last year and played ok in 2nd half prior to latter 08 he was crap and has returned to it this year.

He is a poor 1v1 player everyone knows it except for his fanboi squad.

Suggesting Goldsack to replace Maxwell in the side is just absurd. Maxwell is a proven player and will come good. Goldsack is just a fringe player and had an ordinary game tonight as well.

No he's a gun tysons mother has told us

That was a pretty shithouse match, it has to be said.

Positives:
-We got the win
-Ball was phenomenal
-Pendles pure class
-Leon Davis was silk
-Ben Johnson was back to his best
-Keeffe showed some great signs
-Sidebottom appears to be building towards finals, can pull goals out of his arse.
-Swan was running all night
-Leigh brown played his best match in a while
-Wood was competitive and good at ground level
-Cloke worked really hard to get into the game, despite being on a very tough opponent

Negatives:
-Thomas looked pretty lame after that knock to the knee, hope he's okay.
-Friggin dreadful match of footy to watch, almost shambolic. The second half was just the most lifeless half of footy you'll ever see.
-I don't see a future for McCarthy at this level. Harsh call perhaps but he hasn't impressed me at all.
-Lazy defensive efforts and poor disposal coming out of defence. Okay it wasn't an important match but the defenders probably had their worst games of the year; Reid, Maxwell and O'Brien were all fairly poor, while Buckley was very lazy as well. Taz solid as per usual as well as Leon.

Overall, not a particularly memorable match.

One of the strangest attempts at sticking up for someone I've ever seen
There's such thing as running out of patience with someone's constant substandard performances, you know? He looked worse tonight because other back were struggling too? Don't you mean he looked shit cause he didn't have anyone making him look serviceable and covering up for him, hence exposing him as a weak link of our defense?

But you're right, he won't get dropped and we all know why.

The ones you mention might be unpleasantly biased but Russel is simply mentally deficient.

Roast-a-rama: Dwayne "Gold Coast Might Win The Quarter!!!!" Russell.

Get this man a box of tissues and some privacy.

The single worst call of any game I've had the misfortune to listen to/watch in 30 years.

Will be the last time I look at a post game discussion. The comments on Maxwell are disgraceful. Gee we have some clowns that write crap. He still had nearly 20 touches at 80percent efficiency. Not bad. We also won playing in 2nd gear... We have short memories and to be honest his efforts in that drawn grand final gives him enough credit in the bank for a while yet. Get off his back and maybe enjoy how good we are as a team as well..

Haha, I have noticed his slight psychological unstableness. I just dispise those w*****s on Chanel 10.

Lol we won't have to put up with them for much longer, Russel on the other hand.... unless of course he's institutionalised soon :D

Just heard replay on ch 10 of him saying "There's like 5 million Collingwood supporters here!!!"

Clowns? I beg your pardon

I'm just not a vanilla "all's good we are winning" type of poster.
Don't like it? Tough shit.

I'll give you the tip I wasn't sticking up for him. I was disappointed big time in his performance tonight as I have been for pretty much every one of his this year. However I just chose not to use harsh language which seems to be an amazingly common trait on this board of late considering how well we're travelling.

When I say he won't be dropped its because I'm simply being a realist. He's the captain and he has the full support of the playing group (and that won't change anytime soon), which matters a million times more than any of our opinions. Dropping the captain when your 15-1 with a % of 175 would create just as many headlines as the Buckley/ MM rubbish so it doesn't help the club as a whole, which is all it should be about. Not too mention that, as Opti pointed out, the potential replacements aren't exactly beating down the door.

I clearly chose the wrong words for my final sentence. The way you put it is extremely blunt, considering the guy's still the captain of the club, but it's relatively close to what I was trying to get at!

Agree, we are all entitled to our opinions and I'm very glad that they differ from time to time!

I don't necessarily think that makes any of us clowns TBH.

I share your indignation PB :)

Bit harsh on my fellow posters there noob, but I actually think that there's a bit of a pack mentality on this board at times, eg. someone says Maxxy was crap, next poster is like, yeah he had a lot of turnovers, then before long it becomes the trendy thing to bag our skipper. IMHO he played a reasonable game tonight, won a few contests, stuffed up a couple of times, but pretty reasonable overall.

The game itself was boring, and like others, I detested the lame commentary, which seemed to alternate between trying to generate some fake enthusiaism for a GC "comeback" and sucking up to the Pies.

Fair enough if you put it like this. And I'm actually not calling for him being dropped, just calling spade a spade, Captaincy is the only reason he won't be dropped and thats understandable. Didn't think I was using such a harsh language ina first place and somehow get a feeling Maxy would be fine with reading this criticism. I'm simply getting tired of people blindly defending him when his bad performances far outweigh his good ones.
I do understand he is a good leader of men and I will always remember his heroic smother in the first GF just think a gun side like ours deserves a more talented Captain, I'm prepared to wait till 2013 though.

Toast - Dale Thomas, Luke Ball and Taz

Play their hearts out every game. Refreshing to see how much Taz has matured and I think we should all send Ross Lyon flowers.

Agree with these three, plus Pendles and Leon this year.

Taz has been awesome. At the start he clearly was having trouble settling in, remember all the frees he was giving away NAB Cup and first few games.

Just Like Ball and Jolly the year before he took a little while to assimiliate into the team, but now, week after week, he is close to faultless.

An enormous pick up for us. And Luke Ball, he's just looking almost quick these days, taking marks on the forward line, kicking set shots maybe more reliably than anyone, kicks covering 50 metres...amazing courage and leadership.

We just need a fit and inform Didak now...BJ looked completely back to his best tonight aswell.

Nah my comments re the harsh language weren't directed at you they were just a general comment based on why I tried to hold back a little on Maxy. Tbh I again chose the wrong words with it anyway I should have said its creeping in a bit of late rather than it being common (I'll put that down to my frustration at tonight's performance).

The club will no doubt sort out what's best moving forward so I don't want to have to strong an opinion on it one way or the other. All we can hope for is that he turns it around before its too late :thumbsu:
