The fixturing problems that causes with byes
Some teams having match fitness early in the season, and those teams then getting a bye before its needed.

Just play a full round if games have to be played. If there are commercial advantages to having all four NSW, Qld teams play at home that isn't great but its far less distorting than what we have.

The league can't get (or more accurately, don't bother getting) the mid-season byes right and make sure teams going into, and more importantly coming off, a bye play each other. The extra mess for no reason than RL play a few games overseas is totally unnecessary.

I can agree with that. It's nice giving the Northern states something since Victoria gets the GF, SA gets gather round and WA is now getting extra games, but it is screwing the fixtures a bit.

I don't see why you couldn't have the top four victorian teams go north and have those four games in marquee slots across Thurs/Fri/Sat.

Have the two SA teams play in Perth. Maybe even as a double header on Sunday.

And then just fit the remaining games into Victoria across the weekend. There is even a public holiday monday in Victoria this year that they could have used.

The whole thing is just stupid and will obviously not last much longer than a year or two in its current form.

The two SA teams play in Perth. Maybe even as a double header on Sunday.

And then just fit the remaining games into Victoria across the weekend. There is even a public holiday monday in Victoria this is year that they could have used.

The whole thing is just stupid and will obviously not last much longer than a year or two in its current form.

It gets extra prime time broadcast spots, and media coverage via the controversy of being so stupid, so it will last in something like its current form regardless of (perhaps partly because of) how patently absurd it is.

The teams playing round 0 getting a 2nd bye is one issue.

I agree with this.....have it as a non-Vic round and give the thursday and Friday games to Sydney / Brisbane....have a perth game on Sunday night even

I agree with a few others in here, just have it as a non-Vic round, we have enough teams / stadiums outside of Vic where every state gets at least a game or two.

Completely screws the fixture / balance of the comp when 8 teams get an extra game into them before the rest of the season actually starts. Not to mention completely insane scheduling problems like last year where some teams were getting two byes before others have even had one.

Non-Vic opening round is fine.
