Melbourne has probably improved from last season, Brisbane has stayed roughly the same, and our only major loss was Phillips. I agree they'll be the three main contenders, and North, Freo and Collingwood are always a chance. I don't have much faith in Bulldogs, Carlton or Gold Coast bridging the gap and then it falls away pretty quickly from there.
I would think one of the clubs that get to play more expansion teams will probably sneak in to the top 4 even though they probably won't be as good as the supposed top 4 I think it'll be Freo who misses out, there a clear top 3 in Adelaide Melbourne and Brisbane and you'd have to be crazy to suggest a team other than them winning the premiership.

They just got a massive payrise. Meaning some players who choose to just put their hand up for Crows or Power could be in for a very decent pay day.

Massive payrise, but still only around 70k for the most part. And that's not just the rookie salary, it's what almost all senior players are on. Hard to expect players to move interstate for that.

Very similar draw to the last season. Grand Final rematch in round one, moderately challenging middle period and then two difficult matches in a row near the end of the season. Geelong and St Kilda is a fairly soft finish though.

Do we know which matches are home games yet? I gather Port are playing away in round 1 so hopefully our match against Melbourne will be at home.

Edit: Just checked. We're home in odd rounds and away in even rounds. That's actually pretty handy for us. Means we get home games against likely finalists Melbourne, Freo and North (but away games against Brisbane and Collingwood). It also means we only travel four times because one of our away games is the Showdown at Adelaide Oval.

We really should be hosting the showdown

Melbourne and Geelong Friday night matches at Coopers Stadium (Norwood)
North Melbourne, GWS and Freo at Wigan Oval (Unley)

We have 4 Friday night games all up (the other two being the Showdown and Brisbane at Metricon), which is great.

We're only using Norwood because they have lights (and Unley doesn't), which is great from a spectator point of view.

I think it's a pretty good draw all up. Yep, as Premiers, we play the better teams of the comp (which will only benefit us come finals time), but we get a few softer games too.

The major disappointment is Pride Round once again being an away fixture, which is typical of the AFL (they've used plenty of footage of the Rainbow Crows, but we've yet to host a Pride Round match).

Do Port Power really expect their fans to head to Alberton Oval for AFLW games?

Why wouldn't they? It is their home ground after all.

Hawthorn have their fans travelling all over Melbourne for their home games this season (Port Melbourne, Box Hill, Frankston), and Melbourne haven't had issues getting fans out to Casey.

Remember them whinging about heading to West Lakes for AFL games?

Very few of their fans will care enough about AFLW to venture out there. Maybe in the first season, but after that...

I think Port wont win a game aside from maybe beating a fellow expansion team. They only have 1 star player and she is cooked. West Coast and other sides who have at least had one more year would have had full preseasons and an extra year of playing the game plan. Its not a bad thing if Port lose nearly all their games. They have a lot of development to do and if anyone thinks they will resemble the Power mens side they will be seriously disappointed. They will need to hit the draft and trade over multiple seasons to build up the star talent the top teams have.

They might resemble the Powahs reserves side, one goal on the weekend against North.

That was slightly different though. Most of that was about Port being made to feel like a sub-tenant of the Crows at Football Park (particularly the fact that they'd be greeted by massive Crows signs on our facility as they entered the eastern side of the ground.

Quite different to travelling to their spiritual home.

So now they get the Train to Adelaide, get off at the Adelaide Train Station, walk past the Adelaide Casino to play their games at the Adelaide Oval.

70k is nothing to sneeze at, it's more than what I make currently

It's not bad money at all, but imagine you had to move away from home and put your study/career on hold while you went there to earn that money. It's one thing for the men where they are full-time athletes who also have the opportunity to earn big money if they make the team, but for the women they're currently part-time and only two of them per side have the opportunity to make any serious cash.

So inside word, we have a player going inactive list due to work and have signed a new player. SANFL goal kicker. Will be announced this week. can't say anymore.
