Did you just glaze over during the last few pages, Wingard and Cripps have both definitely been better, then it's debatable about Elliott and Garlett.

Erm no, I didn't. I also don't think 3-4 players constitutes a "host", which is what my main issue was if you bothered reading my post. I'd take Walter's season over everyone you mentioned bar Wingard btw. Deal with it pls.

Do people think Danger is in this side yet? Certainly seems to be getting closer, but still not in the side for mine.

Borderline, but probably in if you asked me right now.

I wonder if Betts gets rewarded for contribution over a number of years (never yet been an AA). Shouldn't affect the decision but you can understand how it might.
It should have absolutely zero affect in the decision. A first year player should be able to get in if he's good enough

But you are correct, it may sway the selectors

Interesting, off the top of my head I can only think of maybe 3 guys (Betts, Breust and the Chad) who've had better years. What players comprise this 'host'? Walters started the season pretty slowly so I can understand why he isn't one of the frontrunners right now, he's had a good couple of months though and I see no reason why he couldn't be in contention towards the end of the season.

I'd say Rioli, LeCras and Cripps are having better years. 6 is probably considered a host when there are really only 1 or 2 spots up for grabs.

Midfield should be

Shaw - Hurley - Gibson
Hodge - Rance - Houli
Gaff - Pendlebury - Mitchell
Goldstein - Fyfe - Hannebury
Martin - Kennedy - Wingard
Betts - Riewoldt - Gunston

Int: Sandilands - Dangerfield - Gray - JPK

A midfielder who averages 9 kicks and has kicked 5 goals 2 behinds should not be AA. - Priddis. Give me JPK over him all day.

Armitage would be even better.

What about a midfielder averaging more disposals, tackles and goal assists? They also have the same number of clearances per game.

I also like how you mentioned a midfielder that kicked a whole 2 goals more than Priddis, total, as the alternative.

Priddis - 5th in disposals, 5th in tackles, 3rd in goal assists
JPK - 8th in disposals, 18th in tackles, 202nd in goal assists

Wouldn't be undeserving, though, based on his form so far. I know Cripps and LeCras have recently been mentioned and understandably I'd love it if they made it, but looking at the stats (sorry haven't watched many Adelaide games) Betts is easily up there. Cripps needs to keep up the form and LeCras imo would be getting in on name - not even our best forward not named Kennedy this year.

so what you are saying is that a midfielder who averages 9 kicks a game deserves aa?

You ventured forward JPK as the alternative. I challenged that alternative.

As eaglespremiers suggested, Armitage seems to have been a glaring omission.

Whilst I agree - Breust who has been considered averages 2.9 goals contributed per game, Cripps is at 2.6 (Goals and GAs)

Identical possession numbers - with Cripps significantly above in pressure/tackles

Again - I don't think he will get in - in fact I think he will miss the squad - but he isn't a crazy nominee

Too low a profile either way. If he sustains this form through next year then he'll be a big chance.

As opposed to 12.5? Take into account disposal efficiency and maybe Kennedy could kick a little less?

Priddis averaging 1.2 goal assists per game more than covers the kick and goal differential. Then there is the disposal and tackle totals, minor but meaningful.

Midfield group should be out of;

Gaff
Priddis
Pendles
Danger
Fyfe
Hodge
Mitchell
Gray
Hanners
Mundy
Armitage
Isaac smith

Maybe I've missed a couple but this group seems to be the one the selectors would have hard time choosing from.

Forwards group:

Kennedy
Riewoldt j
Bud
Wingard
Crisp
Le cras
Breust
Betts
Walters
Parker

Crisp is having a nice year but in no way should be in that group

Up to this point in the season:

B McPharlin Rance McGovern
HB Gibson Hurley Wood
C Gaff Pendlebury Mitchell
HF Wingard Riewoldt Gray
F Franklin Kennedy Breust
R Goldstein Fyfe Hannebery
INT Naitanui Dangerfield Armitage Priddis

Unlucky: Laird, Betts, Williams, Mundy, Neale, Hodge, Smith, Gunston, Hombsch, Cotchin, Martin, JP Kennedy, Parker, Cripps, Lecras, Murphy, Boyd

I can only comment on Port players as I haven't watched enough games this year, but from Port the only players that could possibly be considered are Wingard, Gray, Boak and Hombsch.

Out of those, based on previous AA teams, Wingard would be a shoe in, Gray and Boak a good chance for the extended squad, Hombsch an outside chance to make the extended squad, depending on how other players in his position have gone.

For mine Gray would have a better chance than Boak, but AA selectors like proven captains that can do something special when the team is down, and Boak has had a few great last quarters.

Overall I expect 3 of the 4 to make the extended squad, Wingard in and possibly, not a certainty, one more on the bench.

Boak wouldn't be anywhere near AA.
