All Divisions General NFNL Discussion Thread

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Its Monday.

NFNL HQs has brunch to discuss the weekend followed by WFH Zoom meetings to check on everyones thoughts about new fines.

Then an EKO.

Doing anything proactive and not in their interests is not a NFNL thing.

I hear they have had meetings with the Federal Communications Minister in charge of social media and now you get a fine for your post, I am sure I get one as well.

Northern Fines and No-logic League.....wait for the new logo, I think a rainbow appears.
Don't like rainbows mate??

Quote in HS article about PCO:

It’s understood the Northern league is among the interested parties to host games at Preston this year. The league would aim to play its home-and-away blockbusters and finals at the venue.

Knew we would end up back there for finals, but interesting comment is H&A Blockbusters.

Would any Club in its right mind give up a home game for PCO for a 'blockbuster'

Good luck selling that to Clubs that want home ground advantage and clearly revenue from game.

I have heard similar - perhaps the H&A games under lights as well if they can lock it in after the works are made.

What's wrong with the lights clubs have? Moronic concept. Could not care about the works. I follow local footy and the thought of heading to PCO for a home game is laughable. If NFNL is leveraging Banyule Council telling them that with all the works planned they will have clubs wanting to play home games there I suspect they have really misread the room....hell what did I just say, of course they would.

I had a laugh at this article this morning also - What clubs would sacrifice the $$$$ & the home ground advantage to play a 'blockbuster' at Preston? Maybe the new team at the NFL is going to incentivise clubs financially to participate in an effort to draw big crowds and promote the NFL?

IMO NFNL should think hard about leasing the ground as an office and move out from Latrobe Would be extremely cheap rent and make it the true home of the NFNL like Windy Hill is for the EDFNL. NFNL could train their rep squads there.

Also the league could put money into the facility to repair the grand stand etc.

That's not the worst idea at all.

Makes perfect sense ........

I was last there regularly in 2022 but unless something has changed re: the PCO Lights .... surely not?

They were horrible to train under for both the Bullants and the Knights back then.

It was mentioned in the LLF article that four new lights were going to be a part of the PCO makeover.

This is also a good point. I think going to a marquee ground works way better in country footy than metro footy.

The VAFA used to do this with Elsternwick Park. All Prem A and B clubs were forced to play one home game there each year. Players hated playing there as the majority of A & B clubs had better facilities and surfaces - and for the reasons stated above.
Boroondara council are proposing the same thing for the revamped Glenferrie Oval but it will be a women's hub. The majority of clubs told the council they hated the idea, but the council went with it anyway.
Councils.....

NFNL is insane if they don’t make a serious bid to get hold of this facility. If it falls in the hands of someone else they lose all control.

Take ownership and control all $$$ for finals, another place for umpires to train and learn, place for clubs to possibly pay and train if needed. A ground for clubs like North that are off theirs in 2026 (and we know this happens often that clubs need to get off ground due to needed works) Ground where finals sides can maybe train if they want......all positive actions.....I am sure there is more.

or

Stay and drink Uni Lattes at Latrobe when not WFH.

I know what's gunna happen.

Aren't La Trobe uni the main sponsor of the league?

Zero chance the league vacates the new offices there unfortunately.
They can still sponsor the league and not be based there.

The long term strategy of being based at the home of the league would be absolutely ideal.

They need a finals solution because last year wasn’t great and it was reflected in the numbers.

So, being located there is the reason for sponsorship? I am sure they still pay rent.

Maybe your right but a decent financial analysis to look at what's best for the future of not only the league HQs but all Clubs should be looked at. Not appeasing one sponsor by staying.

Agree on the finals. 100%.

I'd imagine they might be getting the offices for free or at an extremely discounted rental price at Latrobe.

Yep they do. It’s part of the sponsorship.

But what do clubs pay per year in venue agreements? Not a lot in the scheme of things.

The money extra money they’d make running finals with their own liquor license and canteen etc would surely outweigh that.

It would solve the problem for North Heidelberg this season and I understand there are perhaps 2 other clubs about to undergo similar ground developments over the next two years. Would be handy to have a spare ground for any grounds that dont hold up well enough in winter and urgently need a ground. Dedicated training ground options for clubs who have a ground they are trying to save for game day. Lots of upside of even just having the ground there for emergency. I doubt it will be wasted. As for giving up revenue good points made. Maybe a Sunday match of the round??? I like the idea of having a NFNL dedicated ground...Lets test this theory here of pros and cons.

Most what you have stated as stated before are pros.

The concept of a stand alone H&A game would be, for mine unrealistic. We are a community game, you lads have been around to know we have some older supporters who can really only make local games. Travelling to PCO is not easy, despite some thinking it is.

Sponsors will clearly hate it. They sign a document and have signs around grounds and on TVs in rooms, tell them they are getting less for their money.

No final at PCO has EVER allowed use of social rooms, whilst if NFNL has ownership I suspect this would change but what, one beer after a game and then back to your car to remove the parking ticket?

No home ground advantage, say a huge game like Mont v Heid....Mont play their small ground well (and PCO not very well) what idiot at Mont would agree to give up that advantage.

$$$$$ NFNL would want a take.....what possibly would the home team get after that?

Sundays are juniors and women.....many attend, support and help. Try getting them to PCO.

You may like the idea of a dedicated round at PCO but I think it's the dumbest thing I could think of and assure you I would be on the punt at the local that day, some may go, good luck to them.
