Most what you have stated as stated before are pros.

The concept of a stand alone H&A game would be, for mine unrealistic. We are a community game, you lads have been around to know we have some older supporters who can really only make local games. Travelling to PCO is not easy, despite some thinking it is.

Sponsors will clearly hate it. They sign a document and have signs around grounds and on TVs in rooms, tell them they are getting less for their money.

No final at PCO has EVER allowed use of social rooms, whilst if NFNL has ownership I suspect this would change but what, one beer after a game and then back to your car to remove the parking ticket?

No home ground advantage, say a huge game like Mont v Heid....Mont play their small ground well (and PCO not very well) what idiot at Mont would agree to give up that advantage.

$$$$$ NFNL would want a take.....what possibly would the home team get after that?

Sundays are juniors and women.....many attend, support and help. Try getting them to PCO.

You may like the idea of a dedicated round at PCO but I think it's the dumbest thing I could think of and assure you I would be on the punt at the local that day, some may go, good luck to them.
I agree home and away games will be difficult for sure and understand your points. I do think some players would love the opportunity to play there but there is a lot of water to pass under the bridge (if) this was to happen. Good discussion topic...

It would solve the problem for North Heidelberg this season and I understand there are perhaps 2 other clubs about to undergo similar ground developments over the next two years. Would be handy to have a spare ground for any grounds that dont hold up well enough in winter and urgently need a ground. Dedicated training ground options for clubs who have a ground they are trying to save for game day. Lots of upside of even just having the ground there for emergency. I doubt it will be wasted. As for giving up revenue good points made. Maybe a Sunday match of the round??? I like the idea of having a NFNL dedicated ground...Lets test this theory here of pros and cons.
I can't see any scenario any club giving up a blockbuster game under any circumstances. Home ground advantage and huge loss of revenue it just makes zero sense.

Darebin VFL
Preston Bullant Ammos

Are all fighting for it and will be NOT GOOD for the NFNL.

But its a hard sell for the council to give it to the NFNL over clubs who will regularly use it. They'll need some consistent use of it.

Someone said somewhere the Stars were looking at having a dip.

Sir Doug oval is their home but gets boggy and rooms are not awesome, viewing is not great either......chips and gravy are damn elite though..... A move to PCO would/could be huge for them.

However, I cannot see anyone but Bullant Ammos getting it (with Knights and Darebin Ladies). Will give them a great base to grow and keeps the Ant at their traditional home.....and the money they will get off NFNL for finals they would no doubt enjoy.

How do we give billions a year to indigenous services and their facility is at the standard it is. They do a fantastic job bringing the community together to play and support sport and they don’t have high standard lights, rooms or playing surface.

I bet that football club has done more for indigenous youth than most if not all that take this funding.

What about the multi million dollar upgrade for new pavilion and rooms, its an ongoing saga for many years!
Wih the bloody council would get its shite together!
And Denny Crane the roast beef and gravy rolls are the best!!

Anyone have any word on rule changes for this season? Last touch? Ruck rule?
Ruck rule and holding the ball rule I've been told. Also believe the new kick-in rule too. Last touch isn't happening as far as I know nor should it when you have vastly different conditions in local footy to the AFL.

I would think the last touch rule should be the only one implemented as it isn't subject to umpires interpretation

I think it will come in one day but the best way for local umps to learn is maybe watching a season on TV and seeing how the pros interpret each decision and how they handle and control it. I know it may seem an easy rule to introduce but it will also allow the punter in the outer to watch it within AFL so when they see it live at local level, they do not split a sphincter at the decision.....

That's a fair point

I would actually prefer they bring in last touch rule as its pretty easy to umpire/officiate! Pretty simple if ball comes off hands between the arcs either off marking contest or touched. its a throw in. If its kicked and goes over free kick.
Surely all umps that run senior games have the nous to officiate!

so ruckman cannot step over the line at centre bounce?

Checked out GWS v Pies latrobe today. No reason why it shouldn’t be the ground for finals, great for broadcasting, viewing isn’t as bad as I thought, it’s a no brainer without Preston

The viewing is terrible besides 1 viewing hill. 80% of the ground falls away from the fence..

Get a crowd like we've seen some years and it would be a terrible experience.

Seen Eltham play Strathmore this Saturday. Any other NFNL clubs start practice matches this weekend?

Panton Hill playing Bonnie Doon at Bonnie Doon I think, but they're the only two. Everyone else kicking off after Labour Day weekend

Always interesting to see how many games each clubs opt for. AFL is scaling back big time these days.

Some clubs having 4 imo is way overs basically playing a quarter of a season before round 1..

Interesting we aren’t having our 1st Praccy for another month. VAFA are starting on the 8th April. Almost two months to go.

Early one for Eltham. How’d they go?
Heard a couple of junior teams have practice games this weekend. Now that is early! When does NFNL release the junior fixtures usually?

Eltham start earlier on Good Friday so makes sense to have a praccy match earlier I suppose

Umpires got sent the new rules today. The only rules that are being replicated from the AFL is the ruck rule and the tightening of the HTB rule, with shrugging/raising the arm to break a tackle is now going to be paid HTB.

Thanks Clarky, I was chatting with a coach last week and he was asking about ruck rule and stepping over line at centre square!
